All Should Be My Ministers
Among the many treasures left to us by St. Catherine of Siena were a series of dictations humbly called, “a dialogue.” Full of spiritual richness, meditation and revelation, St. Catherine’s “Dialogue” embodies aspects of the Eternal Father speaking to the human soul. One small excerpt in particular that is highlighted in the Catechism, reveals God’s intention for us as ministers to each other in the plan of salvation.
“I distribute the virtues quite diversely; I do not give all of them to each person, but some to one, some to others .
. . . I shall give principally charity to one; justice to another; humility to this one, a living faith to that one. . . .
And so I have given many gifts and graces, both spiritual and temporal, with such diversity that I have not given
everything to one single person, so that you may be constrained to practice charity towards one another. . . . I
have willed that one should need another and that all should be my ministers in distributing the graces and gifts
they have received from me.” (CCC 1937)`
I must admit that for many years the measure of my own offering of time, talent and treasure was this: How much will it take to alleviate my feelings of guilt or to make me feel good. The problem with that formula was simply that I couldn’t come up with enough to “feel” satisfied. The more I would try, the more I would realize how great the shortfall was. Eventually, I sort of gave up and let the activities of life absorb me.
God blesses us with exactly what it is that we should have. Lovingly, He arranges our lives so that the formula for giving requires us to separate ourselves from ourselves. Alleviating guilt or feeling good about our self is at its root a selfish motive and it only works to a degree. God’s motive is to draw us closer to Him because that is our only pathway to salvation, joy, happiness and peace. Our giving must be motivated by selflessness, accessing our unique talents and blessings and returning a portion for God and neighbor. It may be a struggle at first, but the gift that is returned is in the greatest interest of our self (or better said our soul) because it unites us to God. In return for our gifts we receive the greatest gift of all; true love and true life now and for eternity.
Our acts of letting go are the greatest acts of hanging on. In losing, we gain. In dying, we live.
EVANGELISM IN ACTION: Whatever special gifts God has given you, give some back to Him and to others.

“For what could I know of Him [Jesus] without her [the Church]?”
– Henri Cardinal de Lubac, SJ
Celebrate the Pentecost, the “birth” of Holy Mother Church, every day in
Adoration of Christ Jesus in the most Blessed Sacrament. Without faithful,
committed adorers, Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament would be
impossible! We humbly ask all parishioners to make a commitment to
spend time with The Lord in Adoration.
Hours in Most URGENT Need are:
Monday – 1AM - 2 AM* and 11 PM – Midnight*
Tuesday - Midnight – 1AM* and 1AM - 2AM*,
Thursday – Midnight-1AM* and 2AM - 3AM*
Friday – Midnight – 1AM*, 1AM – 2AM*, and 2AM-3AM*
Saturday – Midnight – 1AM* and 1AM – 2AM*
So do we and you can help. One of the many ministries here at St. Martin de
Porres is that of USHER. You see our Ushers greeting you upon arrival, distributing the bulletins at the end of Mass and assisting in many other ways. And of course
you see them passing the basket to collect your Stewardship gifts of treasure for the Church. Many hands
make light work and we need a few more hands. You will be assigned to the Mass which you usually attend.
Please prayerfully consider giving of your time!
