HOW TO CONTACT A PRIEST IN ST. JUDE PARISH

(Emergency and Non-Emergency)

As a church parish, we consider ourselves to be very much like family. That having been said, it is good from time to time to offer a few reminders regarding our life together. This particular reminder serves both as a means of information and as a means of helping us to be as effective as possible in serving our community. This article is divided into 2 basic sections: how to contact a priest regarding an emergency and how to contact a priest for all other matters. These thoughts are meant to serve as a simple, general, but clearly defined reminder. CONTACTING A PRIEST (AT ST. JUDE) IN A MOMENT OF EMERGENCY- an emergency is defined as, “a moment in which you require the immediate assistance of a priest.” During day time hours (8:30am-4:00pm), such a phone call should be made to the Parish Office at 225-766-2431. After hours (4:00pm-8:30am), such a call should be placed to our 24 hour live answering service at 225-346-7680. Father Trey is always reachable after hours by way of this number. If he is away, Father Mike will be reachable. Some specific examples of what an emergency is would be: when someone has died or is in danger of dying and the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is requested, when there has been a serious accident of some sort, and so on. Some specific examples of what an emergency situation is not are: issues involving our school, religious ed or sacramental prep programs, questions regarding the Mass schedule, the desire to meet with a priest for confession or counseling of some sort, and anything relating to the day to day “business” operation of the parish. CONTACTING A PRIEST (AT ST. JUDE) FOR NON-EMERGENCY ISSUES- our Parish Office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30am-4:00pm and on Friday from 8:30am-12:00pm. Father Trey and Father Mike both schedule their appointments themselves. The best way to do so is by calling the office during these hours at 225-766-2431. Any issue regarding St. Jude School should be directed first to the school administration, not to Father Trey first. Regarding conversations on the front steps of church before or after Mass: this is not the appropriate time to discuss business matters. Again, the most effective manner to do so is to call the Parish Office. It is also important to note 3 other items: 1. other than receiving after hours emergency phone calls from our live answering service, Father Trey does not use his cell phone for church matters, 2. it is also his practice to not discuss sensitive issues by way of email or text messaging, and 3. Father Trey attempts to take Friday as a day off. So, from 4:00pm on Thursday until Monday morning when he returns to the office, he does not check email, as this is his attempt to keep the Sabbath and prepare for weekend Masses, preaching, and so on. Next week’s article will discuss “who on the Parish Staff” to contact regarding various parish life issues.

St Vincent de Paul’s (SVDP) financial assistance to our St Jude Parish community neighbors has risen significantly since May.

The St. Jude parishioners’ donations are vital to our ability to provide a helping hand up for those in dire need. Please know that we are being good stewards of your charity, but the need is great and growing. From July to December 2015, we served 264. From January to July 2016, we have already served 328 with a significant increases in July and August. Thanksgiving and Christmas is a few months away and we will serve over 100 families with food, a turkey at Thanksgiving and a ham at Christmas along with a bag of toys. Your donation is being used to alleviate the suffering of our neighbors. Please give generously.
