National Volunteer Week: 20-24 May

We are celebrating the wonderful selfless contributions of our many volunteers in this National Volunteers Week. many different ways our volunteers support the St Lucy’s staff and students. Each day, cakes and slices were provided for our volunteers to enjoy with a cuppa. Included on our social media platforms were posts acknowledging the wonderful involvement of our volunteers. Finally, our volunteers are invited to attend the HOPE Mass next Sunday 26th May at 9:15am, where they will be thanked and receive a special blessing from Fr David.

Mum’s Night Out:Some 24 mums attended this wonderful night of food and pampering last Friday. Meals were cooked and souls restored in a lovely night of conviviality and fun with plenty of chat as well. Thanks to our staff led by Mrs Dillon in making this such a worthwhile event.

Hope Mass and Family Fun Day:This Sunday at Holy Name Church we celebrate with St Edmunds our regular Hope Mass. Come along and enjoy Mass in a relaxed, friendly and supportive atmosphere where all are made to feel welcome as we each worship in whatever way the children wish ably led by Father David. Mass starts at 9.15am and is followed by the Family Fun Day organised by the Parents and Friends’ with a BYO picnic in the grounds of the School afterwards. Come along and catch up with or make new friends and feel supported by our community. Remember we never walk alone!

Building Update:With this magnificent run of balmy May weather the builder Marc Morabito Constructions is forging ahead. Excavation and concrete shoring of the walls of the excavation are all completed. Next for the first concrete pour of the ground floor so the builder can work above and below simultaneously.

St Lucy’s Fundraising and Networking Lunch at Parliament House:On Friday 21 June, St Lucy’s will be having our annual fundraising and networking event of the year at Parliament House. This is a fantastic opportunity to network and hear our guest speaker David V. Murray AO discuss his views on how financial institutions can regain the trust of their customers. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND PASTORAL CARE

HOPE Mass this Sunday 26th May: A reminder that you are all welcome to come along and join us at this weekend’s HOPE Mass at Holy Name Church Wahroonga from 9.15am. It is St Lucy’s turn to host this Mass and we would love to have as many of our students as possible there to participate and lead the songs and prayers throughout! This Mass is a very inclusive celebration of the Eucharist with songs that are known by our students and prayers that we say here at school. We look forward to seeing you there!

Mum’s Night Out: Last Friday 17th May we held our first Mum’s Night Out for the year! We had many of our mums come along and enjoy three hours of hospitality where they were catered for with food and drink, as well as invited to enjoy a hand scrub and massage! All the mums loved the chance to be together in a place where they could create meaningful connections and to relax and have fun! A massive thank you to Terry, Mimi, Renata and Shancel for helping to provide this beautiful experience for our deserving mums! And thank you also to the very lovely Kirsty for generously providing an individual pamper pack for each

of our mums, as well as a lucky door prize that was one by Lettie! If you were unable to come to this one, please don’t worry – we have our second one scheduled later in the year on Friday 15th November, so be sure to pop it into your diary now!

2019 Sacramental Program begins! This week, Sr Helen facilitated a wonderful first session for our participants as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in a few weeks’ time! We ask that you keep the following children in your prayers: Luka R, Luke D, Chris O, Daniel O, Elijah D, Dylan A and Alexander C.

C3 Cares Shopping Trip: A very heartfelt thank you to our wonderful friends at C3 Church Wahroonga for organizing another wonderful outing for our parents to attend to their large C3 Cares warehouse. Fourteen of our parents attended this time around, and could not believe the generosity that was extended to them! There will be another two shopping trips scheduled for the remainder of the year, so hopefully you can attend one or both of them if you missed out this time!Wishing you peace and blessings!

This week is National Volunteers Week and at St Lucy’s we have provided many special moments to express our appreciation for

the many volunteers we have in our school community! We have provided them with some yummy treats for morning tea, we

have presented them with special certificates of thanks, we have provided a special song of blessing for them at our Morning Song

assemblies, we have placed posters of gratitude around our school and we have had special class parties and outings with them as well!

We are indeed blessed to have such selfless, generous people with us every day!

“Good will come to those who are generous and give of themselves freely, who act with justice.” Psalm 112:5

“Because of the service by which you have provided, others will praise God for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you” 2 Corinthians 9

“One person gives freely, yet gains even more…” Proverbs 11: 24

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:25

“The Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3.

MENS GROUP TUESDAY 4TH JUNE

P&F FAMILY FUN DAY SUNDAY 26TH MAY

The next Men’s Group meeting will be held on Tuesday 4 June at St Lucy’s. Light dinner and drinks at 6.30 followed by the meeting at 7pm. The finalisation of the Lutz Inquest (after two and a half years!) raised more emotions for us all. Disability can provide more than our fair share of tragedies. What has surprised me though is the quality of the friendships that have been formed and the amazing achievements of our children. Looking forward to chatting with you. Warren Hopley and Brendan [email protected]

Don’t forget we have the P& Family Fun Day on the school oval this Sunday 26th May from 10.30pm - 2.00pm.

Jumping Castle for the kids to enjoy!

Families welcome, bring picnic and picnic rug.

St Lucy’s School would love you to collect stickers for us so we can get some exciting new equipment!

Our collection box will be in reception but you can always send them to school in your child’s school bag.

Thank you for your support!

One of the reasons NDIS Plan utilisation rates are lower than expected, is because not everyone has access to support coordination. As we know its not that easy to find and organise ones’ NDIS supports.

We are really excited to be addressing this important issue, together with Plan Partners, by hosting a FREE webinar on how to organise your NDIS supports and bring your NDIS Plan to life.

If you are intersted in the webinar pease register and join us on June 20th: https://mycarespace.com.au/organising-my-ndis-supports

Speech Pathology

Our Word of the Week for weeks 5 and 6 will be “where”. “Where” questions tell us about places, so this is a great word for talking about places we’ve been and places we’d like to go. It’s also a useful word for games like hide and seek, or for real life situations like lost items

For those people using Key Word Sign, here’s the link to the sign for “where”. http://www.auslan.org.au/dictionary/words/where-1.html

For those using Proloquo2Go, “where” is located on the home page as shown.

Let me know if you have any exciting gains through focussing on “where”. I always love a good news story.

THERAPY UPDATE

Head of TherapyDear families,Hope everyone’s staying well. With the changeable weather these days there’s a few nasty bugs going around. I’ve been a little under the weather myself. Stay healthy, folks.

We’ve just managed to nail down a location and time for this term’s Key Word Sign workshop. With the building works well underway at St Lucy’s, space is at a premium, so we’ve been lucky enough to have the help of St Andrew’s church, just down the road from St Lucy’s. I went out this morning to check out the space, and I think it’ll be a wonderful place to have our workshop, so big thanks to St Andrew’s! Hope to see a good crowd there for it.

We have the last of our three optometry visits coming up next week. Thanks very much to Sindy Lowinger for providing this service for our students with no out of pocket expense. This has allowed many St Lucy’s students who would otherwise have difficulty accessing optometry services to have their sight checked. There’s a couple more students I see around St Lucy’s with glasses, and I’m sure this will help them to access the learning opportunities at St Lucy’s.

All the best,Steve
