Just as God’s word at creation drew order out of the watery chaos, so does the word of Jesus calm the storm. He has the mastery of the Creator over the elements of nature. Peter, on the other hand, symbolises our impetuous humanity, leaping out into the unknown and then becoming afraid and failing. Do you have some parish news to share?

We’d love to publish it in our next edition of “In Touch”. Please email anything of interest to: [email protected] or drop into the parish office during office hours. The next In Touch mailout folding will be on Saturday 30th August in the parish centre at 9am.

GIFT UPDATE We are happy to report that the GIFT program continues to be a great success. On Monday 28 July, the GIFT team coordinated a group of senior boys from St Augustine’s College. The boys produced 62 meals (each providing two hearty serves) of a delicious winter bolognaise. These meals will go to the LINK Community program which supports people in need on the Northern Beaches. As you can see from the photos, the boys worked hard all evening but still had a great time. We were so impressed by how polite and helpful all of the boys were, not to mention how competent they are in the kitchen – it was a pleasure to work with them!

Question of the Week

“When they saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified.” Matthew 14:26

At school: When I am afraid, and don’t understand, what if I hold hands with Jesus!

At work or study: What belief of my faith makes me anxious or afraid? Think

about it! In my family life: How do we talk about scripture stories to really learn from them?

Discipleship this week!

Have a panel discussion at teatime. Is this story about walking on water

or something else?

Just let the ideas flow.

Recent weeks have seen a number of

significant events both in the parish

and the Augustinian community. The

Augustinians convened their

Provincial Chapter and elected their

new Provincial Council and drew up

pastoral plans for the coming four year new period. A

photograph from the Chapter shows the way the Province has

become very representative of the Asian community in this

country as well.

At our Parish Assembly on July 20th new members were nominated to our Parish Council, in the persons of

Tim Boys, Larry McKittrick and Andrea Hogan. We again congratulate our new councillors as they prepare

for their first Council meeting this coming week and are confident they will make a great contribution to

parish life in the time ahead.

Looking ahead we hope that the proposed Parish Picnic on Sunday August 31st will be blessed with fine

weather and be well supported by parish families. It should provide a good opportunity for some relaxed

time together as a community away from regular church functions.

From Fr. Brian

From St. Augustine:

O Lord, my God, pay heed to my prayer. Look with

mercy on my desire, which is not concerned with myself

alone but with my neighbour’s good as well

Confessions 11, 2

A donation envelope for the first Charitable Works Fund (CWF) collection for this financial

year should be attached to this bulletin, if not envelopes are always available in the Church

foyer. The CWF is a centralized fund for the support of charitable and pastoral activities of

the Diocese that extend beyond the limits of any single parish. The funds are raised by

bequests, public donations and parish quotas. There are three CWF collections in the parish

each year to enable us to raise funds towards our quota. Donations to the CWF are fully tax deductible. The

money raised by the CWF is used to support many charitable organizations in the Diocese including the

Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, St Lucy’s School, St Edmond’s School, Ephphata Centre and Centrecare

Broken Bay.

Can you spare 1-2 hours a week with

our elderly residents?

We are reaching out to our community

to share some of their experiences, skills

and kindness to increase the variety of

activities and interest in their day.

Should you wish to get involved we would love to hear from

you!
