VIRTUE OF MONTH: L O V E
Dear Families:
During the month of February, we recognize and celebrate the virtue of Love and remember that love not only inspires the prac ce of all other virtues, but it is also the form and comple on of all the other virtues. No other virtue can be genuinely manifested without love.
In Corinthians 13:4‐8, 13 the apostle Paul tells us about true love.
“Love is kind and pa ent, never jealous, boas ul, proud or rude.
Love isn’t selfish or quick tempered.
It does not keep a record of wrongs that others do.
Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil.
Love is always suppor ve, loyal, hopeful and trus ng.
Love never fails!
For now there are faith, hope and love.
But of these three, the greatest is love.”
Let us be sure to show our love, gra tude and friendship to the people whose love makes
our lives be er. Extend a loving hand to someone who may be lonely and needs a “boost”
from a caring friend or loved one. God’s blessing of love to all in our community.
Prayer for the New Year
O God of new beginnings and wonderful surprises, thank you for the gi of a New Year.
May it be a me of grace for us, a me to grow in faith and love, a me to renew our commitment to following Your Son, Jesus.
May it be a year of blessing for us, a me to cherish our families and friends, a me to renew our efforts at work, a me to embrace our faith more fully.
Walk with us, please, in every day and every hour of this New Year,
that the light of Christ might shine through us, in spite of our weaknesses and failings.
Above all, may be remember this year that we are pilgrims on the sacred path to You.

FIRST TERM REPORT CARDS AND PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
First Term Provincial Report Cards will be distributed on Monday, February 12th and scheduled parent-teacher conferences will take place on the evenings of Tuesday,
February 13th and Thursday, February 15th from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Please discuss your child’s achieve-ment this term and discuss appropriate goals for second term. There are sections in the Provincial Report Cards for both you and your child to complete and return to school.
Great Questions to Ask at the Parent Teacher Conferences
What does my child do well?
What skills does my child need to develop further?
What activities can we do at home to strengthen those skills?
Does my child do his/her homework and assignments efficiently and conscientiously?
Is my child facing any struggles in class not related to her/his schoolwork?
Is my child receiving additional help?
How does my child get along with other students?
What is the best way to contact you if we have more questions?
NOTE: An email was sent out on Fri. Jan 26/10 to the parent community with instructions for on-line booking of appointments.
High School Applications – What’s Next?
Students who have applied to special programs may have already received word of their acceptance or placement on a wait list. During the week of January 29th, 2018, TCDSB Secondary Schools began to forward acceptance packages to the elementary schools. Please read the instructions very carefully and take note of any important dates and forms that need to be submitted.
Redirection Notices
Students who applied to schools that are out of catchment and oversubscribed may have received redirection notices on January 29th, indicating an offer to register at a school in their catchment. Here are your options:
Accept the redirection, thereby securing a spot in a secondary school in September.
Accept the redirection but ask to be placed on a Priority 2 waiting list at their original school of choice. This student will have a spot in the redirected school in September and if a spot becomes available in his/her first choice, s/he may be offered that position.
Turn down the redirection and be placed on a Priority 1 waiting list at their original school of choice. If this option is chosen, then your child will not have a spot in any school for the time being. If spots do not become available in their first choice school by the start of the year, then the student will have to register at a school where spots may still be available.
Change Your Mind?
If your child no longer wants to attend the ‘first choice’ school, you may request a change of school using the Change Form. This form becomes available in the beginning of March. Please ask your child’s teacher for a form at that time. Please keep in mind that any requests can only be accepted based on the availability of space in the school.

CHRISTMAS BASKET 2017
A huge thank you to the St. John parent community for your generosity with this year’s Christmas Baskets. Thank you for your efforts with this Initiatives, families were able to celebrate Christmas. A special thank you to our parent volunteers who helped to coordinate and prepare the baskets. Included are photos of some student helping to pack the delivery truck.
