You will be aware we still need to observe the regulations outlined below; please do not use the centre aisle of the Church, as it is blocked. In order to maintain a one way system round the Church for Communion, please approach the sanctuary by the sacristy aisle, to your left and return to your seat by the Lady Chapel aisle. Year 6 from St Thomas More School will be celebrating their Leavers’ Mass in Church on Thursday 16th July at 10.30am. In order for the schedule for Mass and Individual Prayer to continue successfully, we need more people to volunteer as stewards. If you can help, please contact the parish office. Following the government guidance our Archbishops and Diocese have sent guidelines for the Opening of Churches for Mass and other Services from this weekend. Clearly there are requirements we must follow: remain 1 metre + apart at all times unless you are part of the same household; wear a face covering/mask, which is essential; follow the one way system already in use as directed by the stewards; sanitise your hands when entering and leaving the Church; take all reading material, belongings and tissues away with you. Thank you in anticipation of your ongoing co-operation. Fr Jimmy

Sunday 5th July 2020 14th Sunday Ordinary Time

Year A Psalter Week 2 First Reading: Zechariah 9:9-10 The prophet shares a vision of the forthcoming joyful reign of a servant king and calls all to be jubilant in anticipation. Second Reading: Romans 8:9,11-13 We are called to live a life according to the spirit of the living God, who resides in each one of us and makes us God’s sons and daughters. Gospel: Matthew 11: 25-30 Jesus knows the heart of the Father and reflects that tenderness to all, who, drawn low by the pressure of life, trust in him. Reflection: Jesus reveals to us the tenderness of the Father, inviting us into a loving embrace. We, in turn, can emulate this by being a people of compassion and hospitality.

Sunday 12th July 2020 15th Sunday of Ordinary Time

Year A Psalter Week 3

First Reading: Isaiah 55:10-11 God’s word is powerful and comes to us as both challenge and gift. Second Reading: Romans 8: 18-23 Paul speaks of fruits of the resurrection for the human race and the whole of creation. Gospel: Matthew 13: 1-23 The parable of the sower illustrates the mystery of faith as it world in the heart of each individual. If we give God an inch, God gives us a mile. Reflection: The parables contain the heart of Jesus’ teaching on the nature of faith. They also reflect the experience of the early Church under persecution. Faith is a gift given in different measure to each one, but God values every sign of faith, however small.

SUNDAY MEDITATIONS FOR JULY 5TH JULY - 14TH SUNDAY OT– YEAR A MATTHEW 11:25-30

Meditate: On this first day we can gather together Jesus invites us to rest in Him. He has been in lockdown with us and now, invites us to

put all our worries, concerns and burden in his care. By giving it to Him we will truly rest.

Act: With Jesus the burdens we carry are easy and light. At this time in particular we are called to help others carry their load.

Try to do so with someone around you.

12TH JULY - 15TH SUNDAY OT– YEAR A MATTHEW 13:1-23 Meditate: The sower goes out to his work and does not spare the

seed. He does not discriminate against the types of soil which will not produce the desired crop. The fields have been prepared by someone

else. What soil are we? Has the preparation happened? Pray: God and Master of the harvest, you see my heart and consider

the times at which my life is not ready to receive you. Soften the hardness of my heart; take away the stones and the thorns so that I

may be the good soil where Jesus may grow.

19TH JULY - 16TH SUNDAY OT - YEAR A MATTHEW 13:24-43 Meditate: In all these agricultural parables the farmer appears as the

main character. He has confidence that the fruit will come. We are called to learn patience from the farmer, who waits for the produce to

come up. Our task is to sow the seed. God will give it growth in due season.

Act: Darnel produces fruit which can be poisonous. Take a moment to see what are the actions you are doing and words you are using

and when the time comes to stop those which are not healthy.

26TH JULY—17TH SUNDAY OT— YEAR A MATTHEW 13:44-52 Meditate: We spend our whole life looking for happiness. Many peo-

ple spend also their resources. Jesus, who is the Kingdom of God made man, is close at hand. Once we have met him, the reaction is

give up everything for Him in the knowledge that: “to give all the goods of one’s house for this love would be to despise it”

Pray: God calls us to put our whole trust in him. This includes with our money and possessions. This is the time in

which you might risk and give up some of these for him so that we may experience his reward.

Many charities expect to experience income reduction leading to reduced support in “building a better world” within their specific remits. Like many, St Hugh’s has been affected by this (details of how to donate are on the parish website) but in addition, Mary’s Meals and CAFOD—Corona Virus Appeal are two of many organi-sations who are currently appealing for support. Details of how to donate are in last week’s newsletter and are on the parish website.
