Summer Devotions

Even though many of you have started a summer schedule our spiritual journey

never takes a vacation! Here are a few devotions for your summer spiritual

journey.

Prayerful Driving: We will travel many miles this summer. Traditionally summer is

the biggest season for travel. I want to make available a devotion that promotes

Prayerful Careful Driving. Back in 1955 Fr. Gregory Bezy had the insight to start

the Sacred Heart Auto League. He wanted to turn the routine daily activity of

traveling by car into a moment prayer, a time of grace. Imagine how much more

we need this in 2017 with all the distracted driving we see today!

I always remember my grandmother having a Sacred Heart medal in her car and

praying before we began a trip. If you would like an envelope with a Sacred Heart

pocket calendar and a Crucifix for your car please see me after mass. There is no

obligation to join the Sacred Heart Auto League but it is a good reminder to

practice prayerful driving.

Our Lady Undoer of Knots Do you have “knots” in your life? We all do! During the

month of June, our Marian Chapel will be dedicated to Our Lady, Undoer of

Knots. This is a devotion promoted by Pope Francis. It is a chance for us to pray

for situations in our lives that seemed tied up or bound up be they medical issues,

financial issues or relationship situations. We pray that our Blessed Mother will

help us. Beginning the weekend of June 3-4 you can tie on your special prayer in

the chapel. Sometime during June we invite you to pray a Novena to Our Lady

Undoer of Knots for your intention. Prayer cards and pamphlets explaining the

devotion are in the chapel.

Vacation Bible School: It begins tomorrow! What a great devotion for our young

people ages Pre-K through 5th grade. Please sign them up after mass today!

Fatima Rosary: This is the 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions at Fatima,

Portugal. Please come join us on June 13 to learn more about Our Lady of Fatima

and to pray a Rosary!

Summer Reading: Many people like to take the time to read over summer. We

have a nice library of Catholic Reading in the CFC . Since many people do not go

over there I will bring some recommended books over to the church. No need to

sign them out. Just be sure to bring them back when you are done!

Corpus Christi – On Sunday June 18 we will celebrate Corpus Christi (the Body

and Blood of Christ). After the 11:00 Mass we will have a procession through

Hanover Square and then a time of Adoration in the main church until 6:00 pm.

Come and spend some time with Our Lord that afternoon!

May the summer of 2017 be a time of growth for you and your family!

-Fr. Tim McKeown

TRINITY SUNDAY

Trinity Sunday celebrates God who is one God in three persons. We don't worship three gods but one God in three persons. We celebrated this at the very beginning of mass when I greeted you with, "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all!" This is a central tenet to our faith. We worship one God in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We worship the Holy Trinity.

How can there be three persons in one God? The best analogy is a family. Here is the Smith family, three separate people: father, mother, child but still one family. They operate as one. If one member is sick, all feel the pain. If one member wins the lottery, all rejoice. They are three but they are one. It is an analogy for the oneness of the Trinity.

Sacred Scripture says, "We have been given everything necessary for a life of sanctification" (2 Peter 1). How true this is. What an incredible gift we have in the Trinity! We have an Almighty Father in heaven who wants nothing more than for us to be in right relationship with Him. We have Jesus who came to earth to die for our sins so that we might have a way to the Father. We have the Holy Spirit who remains with us her on earth and sanctifies us. What excuse could we possibly have for not attaining heaven? God has given us every grace necessary.

In its essence the Trinity is love. Fr. Raniero Cantelemessa writes, “God is love in himself, before time, because He has always had in himself a Son, the Word, whom He loves with an infinite love, that is in the Holy Spirit. In all love there are always three realities or subjects: one who loves, one who is loved, and the love that unites them.”

Our God is an awesome God! Often we are too busy to stop and reflect upon the attributes of God and we forget what a powerful God we serve. The problems of our modern world are not the center of life. They are passing away. In the end we always have God. God alone endures. As St. Teresa of Avila wrote, "Let nothing disturb you. Let nothing frighten you. All things pass. God does not change. Patience achieves everything. Whoever has God lacks nothing. God alone suffices."

The choice lies before us. God the Father the Creator, God the Son the Redeemer, and God the Holy Spirit the Sanctifier have spoken their Word. Will we accept the saving hand of the Trinity? What more could God have done for us that He has not done? May we embrace the gift of the Holy Trinity and imitate Jeremiah who proclaimed, “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15)."

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen!

gift of life to others. Your donation will remain in the local community.

Loving Father, You sent St. Francis Xavier to preach to the nations. You

call us also to be missionaries in our own way. Help us to build and

strengthen our campus so that we may share Jesus with the people of

Coastal Georgia. Like, St. Francis Xavier, may we be people of prayer

and may we share You with those we meet. We thank you for blessing us

with a Parish and a School. May we seek Your will to further your work.

Bless us with a sense of unity, a spirit of cooperation, and a generous

heart as we face the responsibilities and challenges of this undertaking.

We believe our goals are rooted in Your Word and in Your Work. May we

nourish each other in faith, support each other in our temporal needs, and

renew our Church in the pattern of Your own Household. Amen.

On the tables at the main entrance of the church we have children's pages for

children ages (6-10) focusing on today's Gospel.
