St. Francis Blood drive has been rescheduled for Sunday, June 28th
Unfortunately, Vitalant has temporarily reduced their staff’s hours and has cancelled all blood drives for the month of May. However, there is still a critical need to donate blood. 60% of all blood donations come from blood drives and, in addition to High Schools and Colleges being closed which accounted for 20% of the blood drives, many other organizations have canceled their scheduled drives during these uncertain times. Canceling elective surgeries reduced the needed blood supply by approximately 20%, but with elective surgeries starting to resume on April 27th, the need for additional blood products will increase. So, if you have not traveled outside of the US in the past 30 days, nor been on a cruise ship in that time frame, and have not been sick or around anyone who has been sick for the past 30 days, please call Vitalant at (719) 594-0505 or 877-25VITAL, or go online at vitalant.org , to schedule an appointment at their local blood donation center.
Or, if you prefer to wait, please mark your calendar for our re-scheduled Parish blood drive on Sunday, June 28th. If you would like more information on how we plan to run a blood drive as efficient and safely as possible, and/or would like to schedule an appointment for our drive in June please contact me at 719-593-7081 or at [email protected]. Thank you, and may God keep you, and your loved ones, healthy and safe - Gina Milliken

Creation Care Tip: Renewing his "urgent call to respond to the ecological crisis," Pope Francis invited the 1.3 billion Catholics worldwide to join a week of celebration and action in May commemorating the fifth anniversary of his landmark encyclical, Laudato Si’ (available online at http://www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/encyclicals/documents/ papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html) Francis officially announced Laudato Si' Week, set to take place May 16-24. Throughout the nine days, the pope has asked the global Catholic community to undertake ambitious actions to address the mounting environmental perils facing the planet and its people — climate change; ecosystems in the Amazon, Australia, and the Arctic approaching tipping points; and the unprecedented threat of biodiversity loss facing 1 million plant and animal species. The initiative is the latest spearheaded by the Vatican under Francis, who throughout his seven-year papacy has consistently called Catholics and non-Catholics alike to an ecological conversion to safeguard the environment and preserve its natural resources for present and future generations. Some things you can do to make a difference include:
1. Encourage lawmakers to improve and update public transportation options. When effective and far-reaching public transportation systems are in place, fewer cars will clog the roads emitting greenhouse gases and air-polluting contaminants.
2. Join local and national efforts of groups working with elected officials and community leaders to explore ways our local, state, and national communities can do business and reduce harmful emissions.
3. Pay attention to legislation going before state and federal legislatures that concern climate, emissions, or energy policies. Urge legislators to remember that people who live in poverty in your state may suffer the most from climate change and that legislative measures should include provisions that address disproportionate economic impacts, e.g., in heating and transportation costs.

Dear Parishioners, I want to thank all of you who have continued to generously support our church. Obviously, compared to last year we are financially down. Here are the results comparing our Offertory during this time of no public Masses. By April, including Easter Sunday we have a $45,821 deficit. With a grant, May will be better. Father Ken
