Be Well and Be Blessed
32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time, November 6, 2016
A holy hour before the Most Blessed Sacrament to pray for discernment in voting in the national election will take place on
Monday November 7, at 7:30pm of ending with Benediction at 8:30pm.
P B A E
Lord God, as the election approaches, we seek to better understand the issues and concerns that confront our city/state/country, and how the Gospel compels us to respond as faithful citizens in our community. We ask for eyes that are free from
blindness so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters, one and equal in dignity, especially those who are victims of abuse and violence, deceit and poverty.
We ask for ears that will hear the cries of children unborn and those abandoned, Men and women oppressed because of race or creed, religion or gender. We ask for minds
and hearts that are open to hearing the voice of leaders who will bring us closer to your Kingdom.
We pray for discernment so that we may choose leaders who hear your Word, live your love, and keep in the ways of your truth as they follow in the steps of Jesus and his Apostles and guide us to your Kingdom of justice and peace. We ask this in
the name of your Son Jesus Christ and through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
IN REMEMBRANCE Let us pray for all who have died,
that they may rejoice with the Risen Lord, especially:
Pat Minor, Mary Sortino, Ernie Wilson and Mary O’Tool

Today, the same Christ is in people who are unwant-ed, unemployed, uncared for, hungry, naked, and homeless. They seem useless to the state and to soci-ety; nobody has time for them. It is you and I as Christians, worthy of the love of Christ if our love is true, who must find them, and help them; they are there fo the finding.”
The readings today challenge us to ask a question. What is really important ?
Is it the legalism that we observe in the question posed by the Sadducees ? Is it the unwavering reli-gious faith in the midst of persecution that we see in the mother and seven sons in the first reading ? Is it a faith in the resurrection from the dead and an after-life ? Is it what Paul calls grace, which will “encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word ?” Is it found in what we say we believe ? Is it found in how we act ?
In the gospel today, Jesus seems to be saying that it is to be found in more than just the immediate things around us…in what we consume or in the wealth or status that we accumulate. Jesus seems to be saying that it is to be found in more than just the afterlife…in some other world that is still to come. Jesus seems to say that what is important is to be found in the here and now as well as in the past and the future.
In Luke 20:38, in his affirmation of life, Jesus chal-lenges us to promote life today. He calls us to do this in our efforts to end war and violence, in our promo-tion os a culture of life, in our work to insure that the poor and the rich all have an equal chance to live a healthy and complete life, in our practice of the cor-poral and spiritual works of mercy, in our special concern for the poor and vulnerable, in our concern for refugees and the homeless, in our speaking up for justice for everyone, in all our involvements in the important issues of our day, in our challenge to those whose actions threaten life, and in our work to change the structures of society that cause death.
