Sunday, October 4, 2015 (Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi) • 1:00 PM

At the Lunch Benches

Next Sunday, October 4, in the church courtyard, a very special event will take place in honor of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of all ani-

mals: The St. Francis de Sales Blessing of the Animals! Fr. Louis will be blessing any and all God’s creatures. Please bring your pets to be blessed - and please be prepared to pick up after your pets, too. All animals are welcome along with their owners, too!

Kitchen Meeting

On Monday of last week, we had a meeting of the different groups in the par- ish to discuss the use and cleaning of the parish kitchen. After much work and expense, we were able to install a new and beautiful kitchen. The parish kitchen is for use by groups of the parish for their activities. It is used for putting on breakfasts or different social events, such as the Valentine’s Dinner Dance or the Appreciation Dinner. It is used by the school for its lunch programs for the students. It is a blessing that we have the kitchen for the myriad of activities that we have here in the parish. However, this blessing has its challenges. We need to maintain the kitchen by keeping it clean, in order and sanitary. The Riverside County Department of Public Health does come to make inspections of the kitchen. So far, we have an “A” rating, which is very necessary to keep on using it for the parish and schools. Without the “A” rating, the Department of Public Health will close the kitchen and we will be left without its use until it can be brought up to an “A” standard. So, it behooves all of us to pay attention in how we use and keep the kitchen clean and in or-der. The kitchen is to serve ALL in the parish. Everyone who uses it has the responsibility to take care of it. Peace,

OUR PRODIGAL GOD We keep having to relearn how prodigal God is. It is as if God cannot quite manage to say no. We think it is surely fine when God is prodigal with us - rich in mercy and forgiveness, generous in grace. But what about the other - the enemy, the sinner, the heretic, the outsider? Well, we expect God to be as stingy with that per-son as we are. Moses and Joshua wanted such a cozy world, too. They wondered how the spirit of God could be given to the two who did not show up at the meeting tent - today’s church. The apostles in the Gospel complained be-cause there were some miracle workers who were clearly not followers of Jesus. God’s great free‑wheeling generosity confounded them all. Let this be, says Jesus. Just see to it that you who lead continue to be worthy of your calling.
