Baptisms: Scheduled & Celebrated by appointment. Parents should call the rectory at least four weeks in advance, and must attend instructions. Church Law requires that only Catholics in good standing are eligible to be Godparents. No Baptisms will be scheduled during Lent.

Anointing of the Sick: We offer this sacrament to those who are seriously ill, at home or in the hospital. We urge you to contact the office before someone goes to the hospital for an operation. (A priest may not be available later) Ministry of the Sick: Holy Communion will be brought to the sick, upon request. The bedridden or chronically ill can be placed on the “Eucharistic Ministers” visitation schedule. Wedding: Engaged couples must make arrangements in person, at the office at least six months in advance. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Reflection for Fifth Sunday of Lent: “I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory.” (John 17:24) Jesus’ act of raising Lazarus shows the extent to which the power of God’s grace can go, and, thus, the extent of our conversion, our transformation. There is no limit to the divine mercy offered to everyone! We believe that the life of whoever believes in Jesus and follows his commandment will be transformed after death into new life, full and immortal. As Jesus is resurrected with his own body and does not return to an earthly life so too will we be raised with our bodies which will have been transfigured into glorified bodies. He expects us to be with the Father, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, who raised him, he will also raise those who are united to him. No one can strip us of the dignity bestowed upon us by his boundless and unfailing love. He makes it possible for us to lift up our heads and to start anew. Let us not flee from the resurrection of Jesus, let us never give up, come what will. May nothing inspire us more than his life, which impels us onwards! How have I most experienced God’s gift of new life this Lent? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are in the process of building a “crying room” in the rear of the church. Families with young children who

cry, or talk will now have a place to attend mass while not disturbing other parishioners.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS – EVERY FRIDAY DURING LENT – BUCHANAN LOCATION – 7:30 P.M.

Lenten Day of Prayer: The holy mother church invites all its children to renew their spiritual life through prayer, penance and

almsgiving during this holy season of lent. We are grateful to Mr. Thomas Rooney, a certified Spiritual Director (member of Spirituality

and Justice), who would guide us to understand the mystical way of St. Teresa’s prayer life. On Saturday March 24, at 9AM we begin our parish Lenten prayer day at Buchanan location in the parish hall. Approximately

two hours of prayer and reflection would spiritually prepare and lead us into the great mystery of Holy Week. There will be

opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation after the classes and reflection.

Bake Sale for Kelsey Berger at 185 Broadway, Verplanck from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or until we sell out.

PALM CROSS SALE: To prepare our homes, and/or a loved ones grave for the Easter season and the Resurrection, the Knights of Columbus will be selling beautifully decorated palm crosses at All Masses the weekend of Palm Sunday, March

24th & 25th at both churches. The cost will be $10 each. Proceeds from sale, will go to support all of or charitable giving to the parish and community.

The winners of the 26 Week Club for week #14 is # 105 Dolores Foster. The Seller was the Church.

Long Term Prayer List: The sick are comforted just knowing that we pray for them. Please remember these members of our Parish Family, who are ill, in your prayers: Mickey Foster, Ray Mackey, Aidan McElgunn, Sheila Dahlke Moore, John Mecca, Susan Rose, Michael Boddie, John Boddie, James Boddie, Kathy Farrey, Art Farrey Sr., Ed Lent, Margaret Hesselgrave, Colin Lent, Eddie Lent, Sean Flaherty, Joao Manino Vaz, Marilu Selicco, Robin Pasquale, Phyllis Novohradsky, Kelsey Berger, George Malles, Omar Navarro, Maria Zavaglia, Mary Jane Sabatini, Paul Hughes, Stan Hojnacki, Rose DeLuca, Rita Robertine, Angela Everett, Tom Dudley, Ernestine Slaving and Rosemarie Fonti who are sick.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT

First Reading: Jeremiah 31:31-34 The Lord comforted his people, who were exiled to Babylon, by telling them of the new covenant he planned to make with them. The Lord declared he would write his law upon their hearts, and that he would forgive their evil and forget the sins they had committed in the past.

Second Reading: Hebrews 5:7-9 Though God could have heeded his Son’s prayers and spared him suffering, Jesus accepted his Fathers will. Through his suffering, he learned obedience and became the source of eternal salvation for all people.

Gospel: John 12:20-33 Jesus was afraid of the suffering he knew he must face. Yet he explained just as a grain of wheat must die to be harvested, he had to face his hour of suffering to glorify his Father’s name. Jesus explained that once he was lifted from earth, he could draw all people to himself, lifting them to eternal life.
