From the Desk of Fr. Dooley This weekend, we place ourselves in the presence of the great patriarch, Abram. The Book of Genesis states that Abram is in awe and wonder as he looks up to the stars. God promises that his descendants will be as numerous as the stars in the sky. The cove- nant is two-fold for Abram: you will be the leader of a certain people and second, your descendants will be inheriting this particular land from Egypt to the Euphrates (modern- day Iraq). Peter, James, and John wanted to build a “booth” for Jesus and just stay on the mountain where His transfiguration took place. But the Son of God, the Chosen One, knew that He must in-stead keep moving toward His crucifixion. We, too, must rise from worship and do what we can to hasten the coming of the kingdom.

From the Desk of Fr. Dooley This weekend, we place ourselves in the presence of the great patriarch, Abram. The Book of Genesis states that Abram is in awe and wonder as he looks up to the stars. God promises that his descendants will be as numerous as the stars in the sky. The cove-nant is two-fold for Abram: you will be the leader of a certain people and second, your descendants will be inheriting this particular land from Egypt to the Euphrates (modern-

SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT

PICK OF THE

WEEK – March

17, 2019

The first feature

film ever on the

story of St. Joseph,

who was a carpenter, the husband of Mary, and the foster

father of Jesus Christ. Scripture tells us that St. Joseph was

a "just man" and that God gave him the most daunting task

ever asked of a man–to be the husband of the woman who

would give birth to the Messiah and the father and protec-

tor of this Holy Family. He would be the man closest to

Christ.Starring Tobias Moretti in a manly, appealing per-

formance, we are shown the human, noble, and deeply spir-

itual aspects of Joseph the carpenter, son of David, servant

of God, and loving husband of Mary. He is presented as a

man of faith who must grapple greatly with the profound

mysteries of the miraculous conception, the Virgin Birth,

the Incarnation of the Son of God, and the incredible chal-

lenges of protecting and raising Jesus amidst the threats on

his life from the moment of his birth and beyond. As Jo-

seph is informed by God's messengers about trusting and

following his plan for Christ, the dangerous flight into

Egypt to save his child, and finally returning to Nazareth to

raise Jesus, this lovely film presents beautiful vignettes of

these and other powerful scenes in the life of the young

Christ and the Holy Family that are authentic and inspiring.

Also stars Stefania Rivi, Franco Interlenghi, and Andrea

Prodan. Find this and more on the formed website. Access

Gospel Road: Willing to Help! The Church of the Resurrection Youth Group in New Albany will be with us once again at St. Sylvester’s from June 9th-15th. For a week, they will be here for their annual Gospel Road event to help the wider Vinton County community with service projects. After their work is completed each day, they use our parish and social hall for celebrating Mass, Eucharistic adoration, prayer, fellowship, and meals. Do you or do you know someone who could use help with home repairs? These include: building/repairing wheelchair ramps, roofing, rotting porches, landscaping, etc. The group is better at out-door projects, since their work crews tend to be big. If you are interested or know someone who is interested, please call Katy Wyatt, youth minister at Church of the Resurrection, at (614) 855-0881. You may also contact Fr. Dooley at (740) 774-1407, ext. 5. Please contact us by Wednesday April 10th!

Week of March 17-23, Second week of Lent: St. Joseph (March 19, Solemnity) Husband of Mary, Foster Father of Jesus, Carpenter of Naza-reth, and Protector of the Universal Church. St Joseph is mentioned very little in the New Testa-ment and not a single word of his is recorded yet he is held in high esteem in many Christian de-nominations and venerated widely in the Catholic Church. His silence, humility and chastity are held up as a model for all, and as such is the per-fect patron for numerous places peoples and caus-es, particularly of families, fatherhood and hus-bands. Spend time this lent honouring St Joseph by invoking him under one of his many titles, consider praying the Litany of St Joseph, read Quamquam Pluries (1889 Encyclical of Pope St Leo XIII on St Joseph), read Redemptoris Custos (Centenary Anniversary Encyclical of Pope St John Paul II on St Joseph – Guardian of the Redeemer), or pray one of the many prayers to St. Joseph that have been composed through the years and can be found on line or in many prayer books.

YEAR OF THE FAMILY Celebrating Saints and Feats to Enrich Hearts and Homes

RECIPE:Pane di San Guiseppe - St Joseph’s Bread (serves the whole familyJ) Ingredients:

3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour 2 T. butter

1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast 3 T. anise

1 tablespoon honey 1/3 c. golden raisins

2/3 cup hot water 1 T cornmeal

1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:

In a large bowl, stir together 1 1/2 cups of the flour, yeast, honey, hot water,

salt, butter and anise seeds. Mix into a smooth batter. Stir in the golden rai-

sins, and beat for another 10 minutes, gradually adding flour until the dough

pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Turn the dough out onto a lightly

floured surface. Knead for another 8 to 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth

and elastic. You may not need to use all of the flour. Place the dough into a

lightly oiled bowl, and turn to coat. Cover with plastic wrap, and place in a

warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

Grease a baking sheet and dust with cornmeal. Turn the dough out onto a

lightly floured surface, and punch out all of the air. Roll into a long tight loaf,

and place seam side down onto the prepared baking sheet. Use a sharp serrat-

ed knife to make 3 or four diagonal slashes on the top. Cover with a tea towel,

and let rise until double in size, about 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Mist the loaf with water or vinegar before baking, and twice during. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the

preheated oven, or until the crust is golden brown, and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
