NEWSLETTER Term 4, Week 8 December 1st 2017
Dear Families,
Fr Michael Moody, Parish Priest, Fr Geoff McIllroy
Miss Carmel Marantelli, Principal
and St Catherine of Siena school staff
invite all families
to join us in giving thanks for the 2017 school year
on Wednesday, 13th December at 9.15am
at St Catherine of Siena Church,
followed by morning tea in the school hall.
Throughout the year many parents, guardians and grandparents have contributed much to the activities and life of the school. You
have attended excursions, been members of the Parents and Friends, assisted with functions such as the school disco and Mother’s
and Father’s day stalls, attended events such as the book parade and brought grandparents to share Grandparents Day with the
children, been a classroom helper, covered library books, heard children read and so much more. We would like to say thank you for
all that you have done by inviting you to join us for our End of Year Mass and Morning Tea on Wednesday 13th December
Have a great weekend everyone.
Carmel Marantelli

Advent Week 1
Hark the glad sound! The saviour comes, The saviour promised long: Let ev’ry heart prepare a throne, And ev’ry voice a song. He comes the pris’ners to release, On Satan’s bondage held. The gates of brass before Him burst, The iron fetters yield. He comes the broken heart to bind, The bleeding soul to cure, And with the treasures of His grace To enrich the humble poor. Our glad hosannas, prince of Peace, Thy welcome shall proclaim, And heav’ns eternal arches ring With Thy beloved name. Paul Doddridge 1702-1751 Father, meet me in the waiting, the place where I long for what is not fully in view. Still my heart and give me the ability to know that You are near. I believe Your plans are good. I see it in the birth of Your only Son. But sometimes I struggle to see You beyond the haze that surrounds me. Renew my confidence
as I lift my eyes to You. Be glorified in my life during this season of expectation. Amen

9:00am and Wednesday, 13th December
from 8:30am - 9:00am. The uniform shop
will be closed in week 11 for stocktake.
The uniform shop will re-open in 2018 on
Tuesday, 30th January from 11:30am to
1:30pm and then again on Wednesday,
31st January from 8:30am - 9:00am.
Students in Year 1 - 6 return
to school on Wednesday,
31st January 2018.
This year we have had the whole school focus on “being a Bucket Filler”, discussing
how we can demonstrate Acts of Kindness and what it feels like when we do
something kind for others. The Year 6 students have studied the book “Wonder” by
R. J Palacio which embraces difference, explores courage and resilience and
reminds us all just how much our words and actions affect other people.
To celebrate the release of 'Wonder' at the cinemas the Year 5/6 students will be
viewing this on the 4th of December. Reading Cinemas asked us to create a display,
that shows the community, just how much we, at St Catherine of Siena, 'Choose
Kind'. This display will be shown from 24th of November onwards so make
sure you check it out next time you are at Woodgrove!
Thank you to the grade 6 teachers and all of the children for creating this
‘WONDERful’ display.
Have a happy week.

Christmas Dress Up Day The Year Two’s have been writing persuasive texts for our school Christmas
dress up day on Tuesday, 5th December. We hope that everyone can get
involved and that Ellie from 2K can convince you further!
I strongly believe that the whole of St Catherine of Siena should dress up on
Christmas Dress Up Day so we get enough money to buy presents for the people in
our community who are in need.
Firstly, the whole school should dress up on the 5th December for Christmas dress
Up Day and bring a gold coin donation so we can get amazing presents for all of the
people in need. This will definitely make them extremely happy and excited for
Christmas.
Secondly, I definitely think that we should do the whole school Christmas Dress Up
Day because we can wear reindeer ears or Santa beards and a Christmas top. I
definitely think that this year will be an amazing Christmas Dress Up Day!
Finally, we should definitely do the Christmas Dress Up Day so we can celebrate the
meaning of Jesus’ birthday and be like Him by raising money and giving children
presents.
We should definitely do the whole school Christmas Dress Up Day so we get lots of
money so the people in need receive good presents. We can also have a break from
our school uniform and celebrate Jesus’ birthday by being like Him to help those in
need. Please will you join in on our Christmas Dress Up Day and bring a gold coin
donation on Tuesday, 5th December?
