MERCY MOMENTS BY: DEACON TOM DRISCOLL

Through the summer, we will review the “Parables of Mercy.” Not all parables concern mercy, but there are seven which Jesus uses to help us understand more fully not only our all-merciful Father, but what he meant when he said “Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.” (Lk. 6:36.) The Parables of Mercy are: the two debtors and their creditor, the good Samaritan, finding the lost sheep and the lost coin, the merciful father, the rich man and the beggar Lazarus, the judge and the widow and the Pharisee and the Publican in the temple. Parables are stories that Jesus told about real life circumstances, but not just to tell a story. Jesus used parables to reveal truths far better than a lecture ever could. The characters in the parables rarely have

names, only a job, condition or position. This engages our introspection as the parables invite us to see ourselves in them and, through the unique lens of a particular story, honestly examine our relationship with God and other sinners. This is also encouraged by the tendency of parables to have surprising endings contrary to our expectations, which force us to reassess our image of God, our neighbor and appreciate more deeply why Jesus told the parable he did. Each week, we will discuss one of the Parables of Mercy. Please do not rely only on the review, but read the parable and come to your own sense of its calling within you. The review is intended only to assist your understanding and growth in mercy, not to substitute for it. Mercy Challenge for the week: Take time in prayer to contemplate the good qualities of someone who is difficult for you. Do the same for each member of your family.

MOMENTOS DE MISERICORDIA BY: DEACON TOM DRISCOLL

A Note from the Pastor I know that this little piece of news has been out for some time now, and I apologize for the delay in this

communication to the larger Parish but it is always sort of hard to share sad news…

Our School Principal, Mrs. Sarah Gillum, who has served our School for the past two years with a tremendous

amount of success, will not be returning in the Fall. As many of us know, Mrs. Gillum had her third child,

Juniper Clare, in January of this year, and with three children at home in Modesto the commute each day to Lodi

grew longer and longer. After a lot of prayer and conversation with her family, Mrs. Gillum decided that, despite her

great love for the School and Parish of St. Anne’s, she would not be able to continue. We will miss Sarah very much

and we thank our Lord for sending her to us for the couple short years that He did.

Moving forward into the 2016-17 school year, Mrs. Rose Herold, our current

Vice Principal, will take on the responsibility of Interim Administrator.

Mrs. Herold has been with the School for over 15 years and is one of the most

capable teachers and leaders that we have on staff. I have no doubt that she, along

with our new Vice Principal and 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Liz Mar, will do a fabulous

job of leading the School during the next academic year.

Mrs. Herold has indicated that she will not be applying for the permanent

position of Principal of St. Anne’s, so we expect to open up an application period

for this responsibility in the late Fall - early Winter months of 2016.

St. Anne’s has been blessed by our Lord with a Catholic School, a very tangible

opportunity for us to fashion not only disciples of Jesus Christ, but future leaders of

the Church and world. We are most grateful to each of our families in the Parish

who help to support this most important area of Parish ministry.

Please keep our Team in your prayers!

Christ’s Peace,

Extrañaremos mucho a Sarah y

nuestra nueva vice-directora, Sra.
