Transfiguration: In the Gospel today, Peter yearns to do something to make concrete the Transfiguration he had witnessed. But to be a good steward of this spiritual gift, he was instructed to be still, to listen to Jesus, and to wait for His direction. Good advice for us, too!

Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family...

EYEWITNESSES - Today, the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, is a day of eyewitness accounts. The first, a vision reported by the prophet Daniel, was well known to Jesus and his apostles. The vision account was written in quite mystical and figurative language. It is a vision of heaven, powerful and memorable. There are flames of fire, burning wheels, the Ancient One, and a Son of Man. Clearly, Daniel saw something. But was it a dream? Was it real? Was it merely a clever myth? Peter wants no such confusion about his vision! We are told in Matthew's Gospel what he and his friends James and John saw when they went up on the mountain with Jesus one day. Jesus warned the three witnesses to tell no one until "the Son of Man has been raised from the dead" (Matthew 17:9). Lest readers of one of the Gospels discount the story or simply write it off as a pious myth, Peter gives his own account of the Transfiguration of Jesus in his second letter to the church. He writes with authority, as an eyewitness. He reports this message from God concerning Jesus: "This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased," and he assures us that the message is "altogether reliable" (2 Peter 1:17, 19). FOCUS: This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.

“The word of the Lord” is something we hear in Church, perhaps without giving it much thought. Peter and Daniel both remind us that the words of Jesus we hear in Scripture are none other that the words of the beloved Son of the Ancient One, who is the Most High over all the earth. We would do well to pay close attention to these words.

LITURGY OF THE WORD:

In the first reading, the Prophet Daniel observes the Ancient One on His throne, to whom is presented one like a Son of Man who will receive everlasting dominion. The second reading reminds us that Jesus is the beloved Son of the Father. In the Gospel, Jesus takes Peter, James and John up the mountain where He is Transfigured. The disciples then see Moses and Elijah conversing with Him.

Ministry in Community…

FACT OF LIFE What Does "Everyone is Welcome " Really Mean?

By: Catholic apologist Chris Stefanick Kingdoms have boundaries, rules, regulations, and kings. Jesus called himself king. Something really striking about His ministry – He made it clear that He established a new kingdom. Now, unlike any other kingdom, everyone’s invited to be part of the kingdom, which is amazing. But that also means everyone is invited to accept His reign in their lives. Sometimes we get confused when we talk about the "welcome" the Church offers the world. We talk about inclusivity and we forget the fact that yes, everyone is welcome to receive Jesus as King. When you’re part of the Kingdom, that means bowing to His authority and living a certain way. We don’t get to say we’re part of the kingdom but we don’t accept His reign in our lives and we don’t obey His word. That’s just not how it works.

TENTING THE CHURCH: From Tuesday, August 8th through Thursday, August 10th, the Church will be tented for termites. The Church will be unavailable during that time. THERE WILL BE NO MORNING MASSES or WEDNESDAY DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION /CONFESSION. The Church will be available again on Friday, August 11th. PARKING LOT REPAIRS: From Wednesday, August 16th through Friday, August 18th, there will be no parking in the Church and school lots. You will need to find street parking if you plan to attend the morning Masses or Wednesday Divine Mercy Devotion/Confession, as these will still be celebrated. The closure is necessary to apply the topcoat sealer and stripe the parking spaces. This is the final step in repairing the parking lot that has occurred in segments over the summer.

Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord

...from the cloud came a voice that said, this is my beloved Son, with whom I am

well pleased; listen to Him.” — Matthew 17:5

The disciples are confused and scared when they hear the voice from the cloud and see Jesus in His glory. But here on the mountain, they are told to listen to Jesus. That’s good to remember anytime you’re worried or afraid: Listen to what Jesus says to you. Trust that He loves you. Then, like the disciples, you can get up and get moving. You can have courage in God’s love for you.

Loving God, help me trust you and listen to you.

Back to school safety tips

There is a lot that goes into preparing for the new school year, and it’s important to

remember to talk about safety. These are a few tips to consider: (1) meet all of your child’s teachers, (2) discuss school bathroom behavior (no one should go into a stall with a child for any reason), (3) occasionally walk your children to their class instead of using the carpool line. Ministry equips us to deepen our love for God and share our faith…

PARISH APPRECIATION EVENT

Dear Friends, We are greatly blessed with volunteers here at St. Anastasia Parish, and we want to take some time to celebrate and appreciate those who volunteer their time, talent, and treasure to see the work of God

progress in our parish.

While we recognize our ultimate reward is in heaven, and what little we can do here on earth hardly compares to that reward, we believe it’s ok to simply say “thank you”, as well as encourage and inspire one another to even greater works ahead as God enables.

The Bible says this; 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 "We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly, calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father".

We will be gathering together at Diamond Courtyard to thank each and every one of you on Sunday, August 27th at 2:00 pm for a fully catered meal and BBQ provided by the Church. We will be having a wonderful time of fellowship, words of appreciation for past efforts as well as inspiration for future work! What a grand time it will be!

This acknowledges our many volunteers such as Ushers, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Catechists, Altar Care, Baptism, etc.— we are not sending invitations, please invite yourselves!

In Christ,

Fr. Leszek Semik
