SSW Plan for Publishing Your assignment is to write a short story which will be published after thoroughly revising and editing your work. This must be a new piece of writing to be completed on separate sheets of paper, and you may not use a previous writing from your SSW composition notebook. This work can be fiction and must be 3-4 pages (sides of paper) in length. If you are absent one of these days, it is your responsibility to come in for tutorials to make up your work. SSW Project Schedule: May 27 – Introduction to short story writing videos, introduction to the SSW project (by teacher), brainstorm four ideas for your SSW project using a bubble map. May 28 - Choose one idea from your bubble map and plot out the entire short story on your plot diagram. Make sure to include as much detail as possible! Begin drafting. Make sure you have included the thoughts and feelings of your characters.

Make sure you have explained what the characters and the setting look like so your reader can picture them!

Improve your word choice by using a thesaurus. Only choose replacement words that you are certain will fit well.

Look up the spelling of words you aren’t sure about in the dictionary!

Check to see if you are varying your sentence types—simple, compound, complex.

Do you have any figurative language? Add some!!

Do you have transition words or phrases to connect sentences and paragraphs? Add them!

Have you used prepositional phrases at the beginning of any sentences? If not, add at least one to a sentence in your story.

Today, you will swap your SSW short story with another student in your class.

READER: Read your fellow student’s piece through completely. Then, on a separate sheet of paper, please answer the following questions in COMPLETE sentences. Give that sheet to the author when you return their draft.

1) Could you picture the setting and characters in the story by the details provided?Explain.

2) Did the author include the thoughts and feelings of characters in the story? Give one example.

3) On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest), how interesting was this story to you. BE HONEST.

4) Name two things you think the author needs to work on to improve his/her story.
