Based on their performance in the reverse fixture (when we won 12-8) we expected another close battle when we travelled to play Glenmead. We knew that if we didn’t work hard, take our chances and concentrate while defending that Glenmead had, in particular, a very good GS, who was very capable of scoring. Ashton had the tough job of marking their dangerous player for this game and Ashton did a great job of marking him and keeping his scoring opportunities to a minimum…

Awa, his defensive partner, was also fantastic. She read the game well, making vital interceptions and made numerous important rebounds. The first quarter finished 2-1, and so as expected the game was a very tight affair. One where it looked as if the game could go either way. It would be down to who took their shooting chances when they came along. The second quarter saw us increase our lead to a 4-1 scoreline. We then started to grow in confidence, create a few more chances and went on to lead 6-1 after the third quarter. Finally after 4 quarters the game finished 11-1 to ourselves.

Strangely I was a little disappointed after this match as I thought we were very sloppy at times and didn’t live up to our usual high standard. We were a little wasteful in possession and seemed to break/forget quite a few of the simpler rules that we have learned. However any sort of winning performance is a good one and to win by a 10 point margin is fantastic.

Again Kadeem today was prolific with his shooting. Ameile worked well to make so many assists for him.

You may remember that our first netball match of the season was a 3-1 defeat away at Greenholm and so the Great Barr team were desperate to seek revenge and make up for that poor result. Since that first game, our team has improved massively and now everybody has a better understanding of rules, matchplay, and perhaps most of all; where their best position is. For this match we were at full strength and had our three GS/GA options available to us. Kadeem, Ameile and Isobelle all managed to get on the scoresheet. Kadeem even had a period in C and was still very influential in that position. His high energy style of play was fantastic in breaking up play and starting attacks for ourselves. It was a great team performance again and it was great to get a debut for James who played

C for two thirds of the match.

Our third league match of the season saw us up against Heathfield. From the offset, it was Great Barr who were the more dominant in possession. At times we looked quite composed, kept the ball well and kept the opposition team pinned in to their half. However, they always looked as if they could be dangerous on the counter-attack and so it was tense, even when the score was 1-0 and 2-0 to ourselves we needed the third goal to be sure of the victory and to confirm the three points.Cairo managed to grab himself two well worked goals and Jowell, coming on from the bench, scored a great goal from 15 yards out. Man of the match, however, was Callum. He made lots of vital tackles and interceptions and was looked a threat everytime he dribbled the ball forward out of defense. He had a very composed performance.

On Wednesday 11th March we took a group of year ¾ students to Perry Beeches Academy to take part in their Sports Wednesday competition. Five boys from year 3 and five from year 4 took part in a football tournament. Both teams were undefeated (the only time they didn’t win is when they played against each other) and so both of our teams finished JOINT FIRST.

Our two benchball teams performed fantastcially. Both teams showed a great level of skill, work rate and team work, especially considering they were playing alongside people from a different year group. Team 1 were the champions of the tournament, winning all but one game. Team two came third.
