Dear Friends:
The weather is finally heating up and so are things at
Patchwork Plus. We have plenty of great events planned, so
grab your calendar.
Coming right up is our Sewapalooza, a super program for
anyone who wants to have more fun with their sewing
machine. In June we are hosting a Notions Explosion with our
Brewer representative, Kathy Gardner. She will be showing us
all of the newest gadgets from Quilt Market. What fun!!
Our Anniversary Sale is early this year, and as usual, there
will be bargains, bargains, bargains.
In July, we have the Thumbstall Quilt Guild's Quilt Show
right down the road in Skaneateles July 11-13 and Quilting By
the Lake up at Onondaga Community College July 13-25. Also,
don't forget to stop by for your Row By Row pattern. This
shop hop has really grown, and you can pick up patterns all
over the country. We will spend August getting the store ready
for the Quilted in Honor Quilt Show which will start in mid-
September. Whew, just writing about the next four months is
exhausting.

ANNIVERSARY TENT SALE
Saturday, June 28
7:00 am
Note the change of date…
We’re setting up the tent earlier this year –
Saturday, June 28th – but the bargains will still be there!
We will have over 800 pre-measured bolts of fabric at $2.70 per yard when you buy the whole bolt. The shop will open at 8:00 am and everything in the shop will be 25% off with the exception of sewing machines and special orders.
Don’t miss out on the fun… and the bargains!
First Fridays Looking for a night out? First Fridays are back.
Mark your calendars for the first Friday of every
month. Kathy and Sue will be at the store from 6:00 – 9:00 pm to entertain your quilting questions or
provide company as you sew. Pick up a long lost
project (Judi did), start something new or just visit with fellow quilting friends. Call ahead to reserve a
machine. There are snacks and plenty of laughs to go around. The "cost" for this night out is a donation that
will be given to the local food pantry.
Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook!

Row by Row Experience
“Sew a Season” Quilt
July 1 – September 2, 2014
How about this… a shop hop type event with no fees, no passports and all summer to play? Simply visit any of the participating shops and receive a free pattern for a row in a quilt. Create a quilt using at least 8 different rows and be the first to bring it into a participating shop to win a stack of 25 fat quarters (6-1/4 yards of fabric!). Use that shop’s row in your quilt and win a bonus prize! Over 20 states are participating, including 62 shops in New York State. Although the quilt shops are organized by state, quilters have no borders. Travel, shop, collect patterns and add rows to your quilt from any area!
Save the Date!
Saturday, June 7
10:00 – 1:00 pm
Sales representatives from Brewer, our primary sewing and quilting notions distributor, will be at Patchwork Plus to demonstrate some of the latest and greatest notions and tools designed to make your sewing and quilting activities easier and more fun! We’ll have prizes and snacks, and provide a special discount to those who participate in the event. Pre-registration is required as space is limited, and the $10 registration fee will be applied toward your purchases during the event. Please call us at (315) 673-2208 to let us know you’ll be coming!
A number of the items to be demonstrated are only

BERNINA Sewapalooza Sewing Roadshow
Tuesday, May 13, 2014 9:00 – 4:00 pm
Cost is $45.00 and includes lunch
What's a Sewapalooza? It's a one-day sewing workshop hosted by BERNINA at Patchwork Plus where BERNINA fans and sewing enthusiasts will gather for a full day to sew, have fun, learn new skills and be inspired! Our BERNINA sewing machines will be the stars of the show and by the end of the day YOU will become a BERNINA Rock Star! Nancy Bednar, a top BERNINA educator from Chicago, will present three different SETS during the day and each
fan in attendance will receive a Sewapalooza Festival Package including all the materials and instructions to complete the set project. Attendees will complete a simple project in each set – exploring the exclusive features of different BERNINA machines. Whether you're a novice, intermediate or advanced sewer, you'll enhance your skills and enjoy this experience! SET #1 – EMBROIDERY SET Come experience BERNINA embroidery and create a great wristlet for a cell phone or other small items. This fully lined wristlet is stitched entirely in the hoop from start to finish and is so fast and easy. Because it is stitched in the large oval hoop any BERNINA embroidery machine may be used. SET #2 – ACCESSORY SET Learn about BERNINA’s presser feet, the circular embroidery attachment, the clear embroidery foot, and button sew-on foot. You will see how beautifully BERNINA machines can stitch with decorative threads in the bobbin. The project in this set starts out as a long strip and with clever folding, it turns into a two pocket cord caddy which makes a great place to store your ear buds and phone cords while you travel.
SET #3 – MACHINE QUILTING SET BERNINA sewing machines are built for quilting and are equipped with all the right features and accessories to make your sewing machine the perfect machine for quilting! You will make a mini travel pillow in this set. Travel in style with this pillow that is just the right size to provide neck or lumbar support. The pillow features free motion quilting as well as quilting with decorative stitches. Your free- motion quilting will look like a pro’s when you use the BERNINA Stitch Regulator.

Best Friend Portrait
Sundays: July 20 and 27 11:00 – 4:00 pm
Debbie Butler Miller Fee: $75
Debbie’s popular Best Friend Portrait class is back for another
session. Capture your best friend forever in fabric! It’s the only
quilt where a stray pet hair is a good thing. In this two- session
class with a custom pattern made for you by Debbie, your best
friend will come to life through Debbie’s applique and free motion
thread painting technique. In the first session you’ll piece your
portrait, and in the second session thread painting will add
dimension and shading.
Photos of your furry friend must be submitted to Debbie by July
13, allowing her time to create your pattern. More information
about sending your photos will be shared when you register for
the class. Machine capable of free-motion is required for second
class.
Quilting Techniques continued...
THREAD PAINTING 101
Saturday, May 10 2:00 – 4:00 pm
Debbie Butler-Miller Fee: $25
Debbie continues to offer her popular thread
painting class. Once you learn the technique,
the possibilities are endless.
Debbie says, “Remember when you were a kid
and you opened a brand new box of crayons?
Thread painting is as easy and inspiring as that.
Spend the afternoon with me coloring with
thread! Let your imagination go and color
outside the lines! You will be amazed how
easy it is and how excited you will be to
experiment with it even on the most traditional
of works. Who says kids are the only ones to have fun?”
Debbie will supply “practice sandwiches” with designs. After explanation
and demonstration of her thread painting technique, you will practice,
practice, practice! Machine capable of free motion is needed.
Seasonal Table Runner
Tuesdays: May 20 and June 24 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Bunny Dimmel Fee: $50
This class will serve as an introduction to the foundation paper
piecing method Judy Niemeyer uses to make her patterns. This is
the method used when sewing the pieces onto the foundation
units. Curved piecing and traditional piecing are required to join
and finish the table runner upon completion of the units.
Intermediate sewing/quilting skills are necessary for construction
and completion. Warning: this method is addictive!
Pattern required.
Bunny Dimmel Bunny Dimmel is a retired school teacher. Prior to becoming a teacher she owned The Bunny Hut in Liverpool, NY and taught Heirloom Sewing/Smocking. She began her love for sewing with quilting first. The birth of her daughter launched a
fascinating career teaching many others to smock classic children’s garments for their loved ones. Bunny has three children, one granddaughter and another one on the way. She lives in Liverpool, NY.

Do you remember the
snowstorm of December

class was another victim of
last winter’s wild weather.

earlier book-signing at the shop and we are happy to say that
Mary has rescheduled the class for Saturday, October 25 from
10:00 – 4:00 pm. More details will follow in the fall newsletter
but mark your calendars now and save the date. This time you
will have lots of time to finish your tree before the holidays!

- Kitsie
The Knitting Corner by Kitsie Demeree
They are telling us that SPRING has arrived, but I am not sure we believe that. Maybe we better continue knitting warm things, or are we tired of that? We always have a great selection of warm yarns, but take a look – there are many spring and summer yarns on our shelves too and in Central New York we have cool times even in the summer. Lacy shawls are always useful in the evenings and in our air conditioned buildings. There are lovely lace weight yarns in wools, alpacas and cottons. Have you ever tried the yarns made of sugar cane? They are very soft, feeling much like the rayons. Debbie Bliss has two Organic Cotton yarns, one in worsted weight and one in DK weight. So many choices it is sometimes hard to decide. Take time to make a visit to see what we have and start a NEW project!
Monday Knitters May 5 ~ June 2 ~ July 7 ~ August 4
The group that gathers on the first Monday of the month to knit has a great time together and we always welcome newcomers. We share ideas for knitting projects and techniques as we proceed with our individual knitting projects. Help is available if you need some assistance fixing, working on the correct gauge for a particular yarn, and learning new techniques. Each month we take a look at new additions to the Yarn Department. Come and spend an hour or so with fellow knitters. The morning session is 10:00 am - 12:30 pm and the evening session is from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm. The day you attend you will receive a 10% discount on any knitting products you purchase. The fee for each of these sessions is food for the local food pantries. We donate hats to several charities and need your help knitting these. We do have free patterns available. We knit preemies, children's and adult's hats. In 2012 - 2013 we donated over 150 knitted and crochet hats to several organizations in our area and I have another 39 yet to be delivered. Let’s keep up the good work!
Geranium Baskets
Sunday, June 1 12:30 – 2:30 pm
Nancy Austin Fee: $15
If you are looking for an introduction to wool work or are an
experienced stitcher, you will enjoy this wool applique class with
Nancy. “Wool applique is very relaxing and very addictive,” says
Nancy. She will teach stitches and procedures and give lots of tips
on completing your project. She’ll talk about wool, perle cottons,
beads, needles and color selections.
For those who don’t have a wool “stash”, kits are available from
Patchwork Plus for $8.
Kids’ Clothing Monday, July 21 10:00 – 4:00 pm
Karen Donnelly Fee: $20
This class is for kids who have experience using a machine and
would like to sew clothing for themselves. Students can purchase
an easy to sew pattern at Joann’s or other store that offers
patterns with “easy” lines. They can purchase fabrics at Patchwork
Plus or bring in fabrics they have purchased according to the
pattern directions. In this class I will provide guidance in reading
the pattern directions for cutting and constructing their garment.
Kids’ Sewing Camp Monday – Thursday, August 11 - 14
10:00 – 1:00 pm OR 2:00 – 5:00 pm
Karen Donnelly Fee: $135 for 4 days and supplies
These classes are for beginning sewers. I will provide all of the
sewing supplies. Students will be able to pick out fabrics for their
projects. We usually complete one project each day. In the past
we have completed, a pillow case, a simple purse, a cell phone
case, a quilted notebook cover, pajama bottoms, or pieced and
quilted pillow.
