Following the success of last year’s production of ‘The Soundof Music’ Beverley Musical Theatre are delighted to presentFIDDLER ON THE ROOF. This show has been seen by30,000,000 people since it was first staged in 1964.The story is based around the Russian village of ‘Anatevka’ ,where all the villagers follow the Jewish faith and adherestrictly to the ‘Traditions’ and customs of their culture,which guide their lives; what can be eaten, what to wear,the ‘Sabbath prayer’, who can interact with whom,especially with regard to Jewish/Russian relations.One of the main traditions is the use of a ‘matchmaker’ whoarranges the marriages of the young people in the village.

The story unfolds, as we follow Tevye, a humble milkman, his wife Golde and his five daughters. Tevye speculates‘If I were a rich man’ and tries to uphold the traditions tothe best of his ability, but times are changing and thetraditions begin to be questioned and tested by 3 of hisdaughters and along with outside Russian influences,Anatevka changes forever.
