SPORTSMEN’S NOTES Official Newsletter of the Dormont-Mt.Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club
September 2017 Edition
2
Land Transfer: As part of the bridge replacement project on Linden Rd, PennDOT has offered to buy 300 square feet of club property along Linden road. If the club does not sell the property, then PennDOT will file for eminent domain to take the property. Club Bylaws require any transfer of real estate to be approved by the membership at a membership meeting. This proposal will be presented and voted on the October membership meeting. Dues News: With respect to the club’s property tax increase and many upcoming capital improvement projects, the Board voted to increase dues for the 2018 membership year. 2018 dues will be accepted beginning October 1st. New rates are listed in the adjacent Dues News section. Range Safety Officer Training: DMSC will be holding training classes to certify members as NRA Range Safety Officers. Contact John Tupta for details: [email protected] Snow Removal: The club is accepting bids for snow removal this winter. Contact Bill Fertall for details: 724-260-0693 Tuesday Trap: The start time for Tuesday trap has been moved back to 7pm for the remainder of the season which runs through October.
Bridge Maintenance: Flooding over the past few years has washed the ground out from under the concrete approach to the entry bridge. The club will be closed all day October 16th so that a contractor can inject cement into the void to prevent the concrete from cracking. NRA Whittington Center Grant: A grant has been established to help send a deserving youth to the NRA Whittington Center in New Mexico. See pages 3-5 for details and application. Applications must be received by November 30.
DMSC SHORT SHOTS
Sight-in Day: The annual club sight-in day event will be held November 19th from 9am-2pm. Donations this year will benefit the Washington County Young Marines. Estate Firearms: Rich Zinger, a longtime DMSC member, passed away. The family is selling a number of firearms and accessories from the estate. See pages 7-8 for details.

The George Taylor IV Grant
The committee members of the Whittington Center grant decided to honor or club president, George Taylor, by nam-ing the grant after him. George was presented with a plaque at the August membership meeting which reads:
Whereas the Club has established a Grant in 2017 to be awarded annually to a 13-17 year old individ-ual whose parent, grandparent or guardian is a member of The Dormont Mt. Lebanon Sportsman’s Club. The purpose of this award is to financially assist in supporting the individual’s attendance at The NRA Whittington Center Adventure Camp in New Mexico. The intent of the Board of Director’s Grant is to help mentor, train and develop our youth in the outdoor and shooting sports. Considering George’s continuing support, dedication, work, contributions, service and long-term leadership as President of the Club, the Board recognizes by majority approval George’s service by titling the Grant in his name. This annual Grant shall now hereafter be called the “The George Taylor IV Grant”.

CMP Carbine Match
July 11, 2017
Once again, nine shooters reached deep into the confines of their gun safes to retrieve their venerable and trustworthy M1 Carbine. This WWII caveat is just a fun gun to use in sending lead down range. Great weather coupled with great people make for a truly enjoyable time. John “Carbine Williams” Lechnar garnished the top spot with a 360-4x. The following cutoff scores will apply during the 2016 National Matches: Gold 356+, Silver 342-355, Bronze 328-341, T – Shirt 327 or below.

A great day was had to conduct the First Advanced Match in the ARC Program here at DMSC. A nice turnout of 15 shooters occurred, but a better turnout of spectators also showed up to outnumber the participants. Congrats to Allan Jaworski with the best score of 164.1 seconds and all hits in the respective A-Zones. For all who are interested, the scores are the time it takes to shoot a particular stage, plus time added for hitting the B-Zone, C-Zone, or misses. Some time is also added on for procedural errors - thus, the lower time is the better score. The ARC program is destined to provide some really fun and exciting matches. Stay tuned for 2018 !!
