WHAT IS CAIS? The Condition Assessment Information System (CAIS)
is DOE’s in-house inventory system for recording the current physical condition of real property assets.
Costs are classified by building elements in the UNIFORMAT II formatting system.
It is a deficiency-based (repair needs) unit cost estimating system.
It uses RSMean data.
It breaks down the repair needs cost at the asset, system, and/or component level.
CAIS meets all requirements describe in DOE Order 430.3b, Real Property Asset Management.

CAIS FUNCTIONALITY
The CAIS database is built off inspection units, which means the user only enters data when a deficiency is identified.
Deficiency can be costed out by repair cost or a replacement cost.
Each cost can be developed by a percentage or by a total replacement for the inspected component.
CAIS has standard and ad hoc query reports.

GOALS FOR CAIS 2.0
Goal 1: Consistent data input in CAIS.
Goal 2: Eliminate unwarranted data elements.
Goal 3: Improve the user experience.
Goal 4: Provide capabilities beneficial to Headquarters Program Offices.
Goal 5: Increase the number of DOE sites that use CAIS.

REPORTING
Integrate sustainment maintenance modeling currently in DOE CostWorks into CAIS.
Store modified RPV DOE models in CAIS to eliminate sites reproducing the models each year.
Link the deficiency (repair need) element in CAIS to FIMS.
Enhance current project capabilities within CAIS.
