President’s LetterDear Members,

I want to take a moment to share with you some thoughtsthat are consistent as to why our club exists. As you know, wehave a truly great club that not only shares great fellowship inour bi-monthly meetings and periodic golf outings, but mostimportantly fulfills its charter commitment to ensure that stu-dent-athletes who deserve a great education are able to receiveone! That, my fellow club members, is our mission and I applaudyou for your continued support in that very effort. The pinnacleof our efforts was realized this past week when our keynotespeaker, Dr. Tony Atwater, President of Norfolk State University, addressed the sixteen scholarship recipients who were awarded$2000 each for their athletic and academic achievements. Ourgolden voiced past president, Jack Ankerson, served as emceeand keep the evening moving smoothly. Over 108 club membersand guests were present at the Scholarship Dinner. The com-ments, thank you notes, and overall tremendous response thatour club has received is why we do what we do! Mission accom-plished with HONORS! Thank you so much to everyone involved, every member who contributes to our club, and most importantlyto my good friend, our past president, Marty Miller, for assumingthe responsibility for ensuring the success of the event! A jobexceptionally well done Marty!

For those of you who have never participated in the scholar-ship process, selection, and presentation, I would highly encour-age you to do to so. If you want to truly experience the value ofour efforts, you need to read about the accomplishments of theyoung men and women who apply for our help. I often hear aboutthe work ethic of the young generation; however, these youngmen and women are putting forth efforts that you will be amazedto see. As you may know, most teams, schools, institutions, states, countries, etc. are run by the top 1% of achievers. Let me sug-gest to you that this is the caliber of individual in whom we areinvesting! There is no better feeling than to witness the fruits ofour labor when you see what kind of person you are helping! Theseare our leaders of tomorrow and I can assure you that our effortsare of value and truly appreciated. Hence, I would strongly en-courage you to contact Betty to see how your efforts may be bestserved in this regard. She will welcome your call!
