SCHOLARSHIP DINNER- GREAT SUCCESS!Boy, did we have a good nite! 120 in at-

tendance; 60 were NSC members and theirguests. Thank you for showing those youngpeople you support them. Those whocouldn’t be there lets see what you missed.

First, you missed meeting the newPresident of ODU, John Broderick and hisinspirational message to our recipients.Second, meeting a super group of recipi-ents, not only did they exceed athleticallybut academically with stats that blow youaway. Plus all they do outside of school andthe organizations they belong to in school.Exceptional people all. Third, you missedhandshakes and hugs from the recipients, their parents and coaches. I can’t begin toestimate how many thanked me and theClub for what we do. Also, so many said

what a fine program and affair the night was.Fourth, you missed hearing the “NationalAnthem” and hearing “God Bless America”by the Madeline Melnyk who we first heardas a 10 yr. old and thought she was good. You should hear her at 15 years old.

This was my last responsibility as anofficer of the Club. I couldn’t have asked fora better closing. Everything went perfectlythanks to the Scholarship Committee, HerbHollowell, Bobby Allen and Daphine, KenReidel, Dr. John Kostinas, Howard Gordon,C. H. Lambert, Dominic Verrastro, WileyFrench and Frank Tehel. But a Big Thankyou to Betty Dail for her total commitmentto seeing that this program is very specialand Jack Ankerson, Emcee for the nite. Anatural and always prepared to present theNSC in best of light. As you see there are a

lot of folks in making this program what itis. Great! Thank you all for closing mychapter with an outstanding program.

President’s LetterFellow Members,

I open this message with very sincere and warm CON-GRATULATIONS to Past President Tommy Gale. His suc-cess as this year’s Scholarship Committee Chairman wasextraordinary. In spite of the recent austere financial times,Tommy “made it happen.” As I told the Board of Directors, for such a vertically challenged individual, Tommy leavessome exceptionally large shoes to fill. Again, Congratula-tions Tommy, and thanks for the challenge.

Our next big challenge is Frank Tehel’s Pro-Am in July.We need you to get your teams registered to ensure theirplace in the tournament. This year we are conducting thetournament at Cypress Point Country Club in VirginiaBeach. Frank is hard at work getting the Professionals linedup and looks to have another good lineup. Additionally, this year we have a piece of golf art donated by FredGlanville. It is a watercolor of number 18 at Bide-A-WeeGolf Course, and I believe it is autographed by CurtisStrange, Chandler Harper, Ace Parker, and Andy Giles. Forthose local area golf fanatics, this is something the otherfanatics don’t have.

I regret having to miss the last luncheon. I understandthat Marty Miller pulled another fast one and snuck in anexcellent speaker without warning. Good show Marty.Apparently one of my students went the extra mile andshared her flu-like sickness with me. I spent two consecu-tive days in emergency rooms being give intravenous flu-ids. As I write this, one week later, I still haven’t shaken it.It is one helluva quick weight loss diet, but I can’t wait forit to finish. I certainly don’t want to share this with themembership, ‘cause it is not pleasant.

By now, those of us getting ODU football tickets shouldhave their seats selected. I didn’t realize it, but we, as anorganization, could have gotten a block of tickets. TheChesapeake Athletic Club got 60 seats together, and halfthe end zone filled with 309 neighbors of the stadium. Itwas interesting talking to Mark and Ben while waiting myturn. I need to close, so I hope to recover (SOON), and Ihope to see the golfers at Cypress Creek on Monday.

Thank you,

Michael B. Adams
