A G E N D A The Homeownership Program

In the worst economic downturn in a generation, is homeownership a bad investment? Clearly, it is riskier to finance, more difficult to get a mortgage. But, we don’t think so. We know that whole blocks are stabilized by a balance of homeowners, responsible landlords and tenants. Homeowners, because they live in their hard-earned investment, that of their home and their neighborhood, raise the bar on what is expected of their quality of life: Efficient and responsive local government; ready access to essential goods, services and amenities; and abundant living-wage employment opportunities. In a phrase, security for their future.

Through the Myers Homeownership Program, 10 3-bedroom houses will be built in three phases on vacant lots scattered throughout Arbor Hill. Significant public investments of capital and land were necessary in order to make this project financially feasible and affordable. return on those investments will be multi-fold, by continuing and accelerating the neighborhood revitalization plan that is nearing 10 years of implementation. Homebuyers will benefit from the highest quality pre-purchase counseling and incremental tax abatement to insure they are off to the right start. The neighborhood association that arose from revitalization planning will be strengthened by new members and, in turn, provide ongoing support to these families. Please join us again in five months time to welcome them to their new home and neighborhood of choice.
