    Have I ever taught under the anointing ofthe Holy Spirit?

    Have I ever taught without the anointingof the Holy Spirit?

    Can I dene the elements necessary for teach-ing with the anointing well enough to ensureit happens every time you teach? You will be

    able to by the time this seminar is over.

    e Western left-brain educational process

    kills right-brain creativity. (Creativity is theresult of two right-brain faculties, vision andintuition, working together.)

    Einstein said, e intuitive mind is a sacredgift and the rational mind is a faithful ser-vant. We have created a society that honorsthe servant and has forgotten the gift. I believethat the intuitive mind is where we receive therevelation of the Holy Spirit, as we x our eyeson Jesus and tune to ow.

    Einstein also said, Example isnt anotherway to teach, it is the only way to teach. Jesus

    certainly taught by example! He never taughtin a classroom. So the classroom probablybecomes illegitimate i we cannot bring ex-ample, story and life into it. It is reported thatEinstein did not pick up a book for a year afterhe left college. Left-brain Western educationhad made learning odious to him.

    My conclusionI want a dierent educational approach

    than that of Western education.

    How does one go about knowingruth, according to the Bible?

    e Old Testament word for know is ya-

    dah which means personal encounter. It

    involves encountering God, receiving revela-tion from God through the Holy Spirit andresponding to this revelation. So as a teacheror preacher I must lead my students into apersonal encounter with the Holy Spirit, and Imust do this every time I teach.

    Pilate asked, What is Truth? (Jn. 18:38).Pilates question was wrong, as truth is nota what. Jesus said, I am Truth (Jn. 14:6).Jesus had already said that truth is wrapped

    p in a person. e goal of knowing is notsimply to acquire information.

    Truth is not a pile of detached information.Truth involves personal revelation from God toan individual, which is then lived out in that

    ersons life by the power (anointing) of theHoly Spirit.

    e New Testament word for know is gi-

    nosko and this is the word used for a manknowing his wife and bearing a child. usit connotes the idea of personal encounter,

    and the implanting of the ideas and power ofAlmighty God within the student.

    Paul contrasts knowledge (knowledgewhich came through mans reasoning)withtrue knowledge (knowledge which camethrough revelation from the Holy Spirit Phil.1:9; Col. 2:2; 3:10).

    In Philippians 3:1-10 Paul calls his Bibleschool teachers dogs, and the Bible school

    education dung, because it was simply biblicallaws without revelation knowledge by the HolySpirit! (Law without spirit is the ministry ofdeath 2 Cor. 3:7.)

    Exodus 35:35 God even lls engravers anddesigners with revelation knowledge to dotheir jobs well. For example, Mozart receivedthe Hallelujah Chorus from music that wasowing in his heart and mind. Einstein de-

    scribes his creative process by saying theideas danced in my mind.

    So I am not trying to pack students heads fullwith information. Instead, I am trying to leadthem to the fountain of life so they can receiverevelation from the Holy Spirit.

    How to conduct a two-wayJournaling Time where people hear

    from GodOne way of drawing students into a personalencounter with the Holy Spirit involves havinga time of prayer where they ask God what Hewants to speak to them and let them recordand share with others what God has spoken tothem.

    Make sure you rst teach them how to clearlyhear Gods voice (i.e., quiet yourself down, x

    your eyes on Jesus, tune to Gods voice whichis sensed as spontaneous owing thoughtsand pictures, and then write down this ow ofthoughts or pictures).

    After the journaling time above, where stu-dents individually encounter Jesus, have thembreak into groups of two and share with some-one next to them the encounter they have just

    had with Jesus. en ask for volunteers to readtheir journaling to the entire group.

    The goal of knowing is to encounter theHoly Spirit and let Him give revelation knowl-edge into our hearts.

    Knowing must not be limited to left-brain functions alone, which includereading, writing and arithmetic (the threerequired Rs in Western education). We mustalso train the right side of the brain, whichincludes vision, intuition, art, and music (con-sidered electives in the Western educationalprocess). It is interesting to note that schoolshave discovered when they spend less time onthe three Rs and more time on the electives,

    students not only become better in art, mu-

    sic and drama, but their reading, writing andmath scores also improve.

    Christians also want to incorporate the heartin the educational process. e heart includesa passion for truth, and a seeking of revelationfrom Almighty God as well as obedience tothe truth that has been revealed. (Not be-ing obedient to previously revealed truth willhinder ongoing revelation and anointing.) Godexpects us to hear and do (Ps. 26:3; Heb. 5:7;Jas. 1:22).

    We must nd ways to bring our students intoa direct encounter with the living God duringwhich God changes them. And we need this tohappen every single time we teach.

    As we prepare to preach and teach, we hope-

    fully receive revelation knowledge which wedesire to pass on to our students. How can wepass this on in a way which makes it revelationknowledge to them and not simply informa-tion? What is the process we need to use if wewant them to receive revelation knowledge? Inanswering this question, we will discover howto move from Western study to biblical medi-

    tation, and how to move from reasoning on

    our own to Spirit-led reasoning.

    Lets not use Western study, sincehe Bible doesnt endorse study

    Ecclesiastes 12:12 Excessive study of booksis tiringere is no verse in the Bible that commands

    s to study the Bible. (I Timothy 2:15 in theGreek is be diligent, not study.)

    Lets use Biblical Meditation as thestrategy to receive and transmit revelationknowledge. Gods alternative to Western studyis biblical meditation and it is commanded 20times in Scripture.

    What is meditation? e words meditateand meditation in the Greek and Hebrewconvey the following meanings, according tothe denitions given in Strongs ExhaustiveConcordance Old Testament numbers: 1897,1900, 1901, 1902, 7878, 7879, 7881; New Tes-tament numbers: 3191, 4304:

    To murmur; to converse with oneself, andhence aloud; speak; talk; communication;mutter List ways you could speak over

    To study Study is acceptable if it is encom-passed by the other component parts of bibli-cal meditation which are described in this list.

    Pray We must always pray Ephesians 1:17-

    18 and Psalm 119:18 as we approach Scripture.We must start out our personal meditationtimes, our class times and our sermons bypraying with heartfelt passion the prayer ofEphesians 1:17-18.

    Musical notation is should be soft,quiet, soaking music with no crescendos andno words to it, and not a melody you know

    and could sing along with (as that stimulatesyour mind). It can be on in the backgroundduring meditation times, class times, and evenduring sermons.

    Imagine We are to picture Bible stories.Great teachers/preachers are great story tell-ers. Jesus always taught using parables, whichare picture stories (Matt. 13:34).

    Biblical meditation includes all of the above.Western study normally only involves man us-ing his reasoning capacity.

    Instead of promising God you are going to doa thing (e.g., meditate), it is better if you say, Ipurpose by the power of the Holy Spirit to do

    thus and so (Matt. 5:33-37: God says dontmake any vows.)

    Purposes you can confess out loud: I choosebiblical meditation over Western study. Ichoose revelation knowledge over reasonedknowledge. I choose the voice of God overmyself in action. I choose Gods thoughts overmy thoughts.

    Spirit-led reasoning: Luke 1:1-3 is an ex-

    ample of careful investigation, coupled withdivine inspiration (II Tim. 3:16). is is Spirit-led reasoning. We can dene this experien-tially as reasoning guided by ow. I x myeyes on Jesus and tune to ow, and I receiverevelation knowledge.

    e only command in the Bible to reason

    is Isaiah 1:18 where God says, Come let usreason together. God has given us a mind so

    we can give it back to God so He can use it,which results in anointed reason, or reason-ing together with God or Spirit-led reason-ing.

    David reasoned on his own and summarizedit this way: is was troublesome in my sightuntil I came into the presence of God (Ps. 73:16,17).

    Lets speak this together: I purpose to NEVERREASON OUTSIDE OF THE PRESENCE OFGOD!

    We present the right side of our brains to Godthe same way we present the left side. Wewould say, I present my picturing capacityto the Holy Spirit and ask Him to guide thesepictures through ow. en we tune to ow-ng p ctures.

    Classroom Discussion:The Emmaus Road Reasoned knowledge

    versus revelation knowledge

    How to do it wrong share mans ideas with-out divine revelation (Lk. 24:14)

    Disciples were discussing their own ideasamongst themselves, with no revelationknowledge.

    How to do it right talk things over with Jesusand get His perspective (Lk. 24:15-27)

    Recognize that Jesus is Immanuel, Godwith you, and x your eyes upon Him as

    you walk down the road of life, and tuneto spontaneity (i.e., the ow of the HolySpirit within Jn. 7:37-39). Let Him speakto you. Jesus will often ask you questions,(which is an excellent guided self-discov-ery learning approach which we shoulduse as we teach). Jesus will open theScriptures to you (expounding and illu-minating them), granting you revelationknowledge.

    Receive Heart Revelation from the

    Lord: You will experience your heart

    burning within as you are receiving thisrevelation knowledge (Lk. 14:32).

    Now go forth and share your Heart

    Experience: ey acted in response tothis revelation, and they are now sharingtheir experiences, where initially theywere discussing their ideas and theology

    Lk. 24:33-35). ey have moved fromheir heads to their hearts. ey have

    experienced heart revelation and they aresharing heart revelation with others. Maywe do the same as we grow together!

    Discuss the following ideas concern-ing learning how to reason together

    ith GodIn Isaiah 1:8, what is: Sins as scarlet andwhite as snow? ese are pictures! e rstpicture is of my need (sins as scarlet). e sec-

    ond picture is Gods provision (white as snow).Interesting that when God reasons, He goesstraight to picturing, which is a right-brainfunction. For God, proper reasoning involves

    sing two pictures: one of mans need (sins asscarlet), and another of Gods provision (whiteas snow).

    So as you draw your students into reasoningtogether with God (which is what you want todo as you teach and preach), you must always

    paint two pictures, one of their need and oneof Gods provision. en tune to ow andspeak from ow until you have fully describedhow mans need is overcome by the provisionof God. When you have described in detailhow their need is overcome by Gods provi-sion, then your message is over. Ask God to

    ive you these pictures, ask for His anoint-ing, and tune to ow (i.e., the ow of the Holy

    Spirit Jn. 7:37-39). In this way as you preach/teach you will be releasing the Holy Spiritsrevelation, emotion and passion.

    Watchman Nee said that Pictures are theHoly Spirit's memory. For example, if on aSunday morning, you want to bring back there and passion and anointing you felt Fridaynight as you prepared your sermon, what youneed to do is this: On Sunday morning youmust see again the pictures you were seeing onFriday night and these pictures will bring backthat same re and emotion you had on Fridaynight.

    ow in my book this is a priceless under-standing of divine principles, and by practic-

    ing this principle, my preaching style has beenreatly enhanced. When you preach from

    pictures, you are preaching from the rightside of your brain, and emotion and ow alsocome through the right side of your brain. Soif you preach from pictures, you will be able toeasily speak with passion and ow. Because Iknow this, now I can preach/teach using bothhemispheres of my mind as well as my heart,all being directed by the ow of the Holy Spiritwithin me!

    Classroom Journaling Application: Writedown what God is speaking to you about oneor several of the following questions. Fix youreyes on Jesus, tune to spontaneous thoughtsand write down what is coming back to you (5 8 minutes). en turn to someone next to

    you and share with them the journaling youhave (5 minutes). en several should volun-

    teer to share with the entire group what Godhas spoken to them (7 minutes). As you share

    your journaling, read it rather than paraphras-ing it.

    God focuses on the heart 8X morethan on the mind.ere are 100 verses on mind and 800 verseson heart in the Bible.

    What God does to the heart: Thebenefits of living out of the heartGod can stir up the heart to do things (Ex. 35:21,26,29). God can ll the heart with wisdomto do all types of work (Ex. 35:35). God canturn the heart to a direction of His choos-ing (Prov. 21:1). If your heart trusts God, Hemakes you prosper (Prov. 28:25). God sendsangels to grant revelation to the humble, seek-ing heart (Dan. 10:12). God can open yourheart to receive truth (Acts. 16:14). God cancircumcise your heart (Rom. 2:29). e purein heart get to see God (Matt. 5:8). A heartwithout doubt is a requirement for producingmiracles (Mk. 11:22-24).

    Imagination is always linked with the heart inScripture. So heart faith would include faithwrapped in divine pictures. When God gaveAbraham (the father of faith) a picture (Gen.15:5), it instantly produced faith (Gen. 15:6).

    e hearts function: To believe unto salva-tion Rom. 10:9,10); to love God and trust Godwhole-heartedly (Deut. 6:5; Prov. 3:5,6); to

    seek knowledge (Prov. 15:14); to ponder (Lk. 2:19); to add persuasiveness to the lips (Prov. 16:23); can receive thoughts from satan (Jn. 13:2; Acts 5:3). Out of the heart ow the issues oflife (Prov. 4:23).

    e heart in poor condition: e heart canbecome waxed over and dull so it doesnt hearGods voice (Matt. 13:15). e disciples had

    e Spirit: e light of the Lord enters man

    through his spirit (Prov. 20:27). God indwellsthe spirit of the Christian (I Cor. 6:17). GodsSpirit provides: truth and guidance into truth(Jn. 16:13-15); revelation (Lk. 2:26,27); light,wisdom, understanding, knowledge in allmanner of workmanship (Ex. 31:3; Dan. 4:18);and anointing when one speaks (Acts 6:10).e spirit can sense anothers thoughts (Mk.2:8).

    A Spirit-Anointe C assroom Met o o ogy

    1. Begin by building spiritual sen-sitivity through a time of praise,

    worship and prayer, welcoming theHoly Spirit as the Teacher. You mayuse either an anointed worship leader or ananointed cassette or CD. As a group, enterGods presence in praise and worship andconclude the worship time with a prayer forthe Holy Spirit to grant revelation knowl-edge amongst the group during your timetogether (Eph. 1:17,18). Never grieve theHoly Spirit by not honoring and welcoming

    Him as your Teacher.

    2. Since personal growth is oftendifficult, build emotional opennessand intimacy with a hug break. Havea short time of mingling and sharing hugsone with another. is touching breaksdown walls and builds intimacy among thegroup, allowing the members to share moredeeply during the guided self-discovery dis-

    cussion time which will follow.

    3. Capture everyones heart and at-tention with a story. e group leaderintroduces the discussion by painting apicture of a real-life situation which involvesthe topic being explored in that class, andrelates it meaningfully to the group, showingthat having a right or a wrong understandingand application of the topic at hand will have

    a signicant eect on each individuals life.After sharing such a story, have group mem-bers share their memory verses, insights,answers to the discussion questions andwritten weekly summaries.

    4. Set the pace by modeling open,honest sharing. e leader may chooseto share an anointed insight God gave him

    through the weeks assignment, and how thismet a real-life need or dilemma he was fac-ing. e group will not share their lives any

    more deeply than the leader shares his.

    5. Involve all group members inharing of revelations. Go around theroup and have members read verses from

    the homework on which God gave themrevelation insight. Have them share whatGod spoke to them from these verses andwhat practical dierence it makes in theirlife. Draw out the timid students by calling

    on them to share, and limit the naturallytalkative.

    6. Have an anointed teaching ele-ment and/or a filler exercise in case

    iscussion lags. e anointed teachingshould be something God has freshly re-

    vealed to the teacher concerning this weeksor next weeks lesson, and which he senseswill be meaningful and relevant to the lives

    of the students. is can come early in theroup meeting. e ller exercise is some-

    thing which would be interesting and ben-ecial to the students but which wont betragic if it is missed. is can come nearerthe end of the meeting.

    1. Make sure the general goal of train-

    ing is always before your eyes as youlead discussions (I Tim. 1:5 Love froma pure heart, a good conscience and asincere faith). Make sure all discussionfacilitates this goal.

    . Make sure you have a clear word andpicture from God of what the special-ized goal of the session is. Make sure alldiscussion facilitates this goal.

    3. Have chairs in semi-circle.

    4. Begin with worship, a prayer invitingthe Holy Spirit to be present as theTeacher, and a hug break.

    5. Give enough introductory overviewso everyones hearts are captured andfocused on the topic and situation to becovered. A story, drama, role play, or

    something like that are excellent ways tostart. You must connect the life of thestudents with the life of the topic and

    the life of the Holy Spirit before you

    go on into the classtime. Otherwise youwill have a dead meeting.

    . Ask appropriate questions. Ride thewave of the S(s)pirit by sensing with

    your heart where God is and where thehearts of the class are as a whole. Bring

    these constantly together, through thequestions and dialogue. e classroominteraction will let you know where yourstudents are.

    Concluding Classroom Activity: One way todeeply experience Scripture is to enter into aBible story and allow it to come alive throughthe enlightening of the Holy Spirit!

    As a small group you may experience a Biblestory, by corporately entering the scene,becoming one of the characters, and experi-encing it in the rst person as the Holy Spiritleads, making it come alive in your heart.

    6. Starting with your group leader youhen go around the circle, numerousimes, with each person xing their eyes

    and hearts on the scene, and sharingwhatever they are experiencing.

    . hen a person is done sharing, hesqueezes the hand of the person on hisright. is is the signal for them to shareor, if they desire to pass, they may in turnsqueeze the hand of the person on theirright. For the Upper Room, you should

    o twice around the circle, waiting forhe Holy Spirit to come and baptize

    you. en for the third and fourth timearound the circle, the leader begins bydescribing his experience as the HolySpirit appears in a remarkable way.

    After going around the circle four times, comeback as a large group and let people share tes-timonies as to what they experienced and therevelation the Holy Spirit gave to them. isis an exciting way to get into Scripture withthe Holy Spirits leading. You can do this withmany if not all Bible stories.

    Four Keys to Hearing Gods Voice

    Christianity is unique among religions, for italone o ers a personal relationship with theCreator beginning here and now, and lastingthroughout eternity. Jesus declared, is iseternal life that they mayknow God (Jn. 17:2). Unfortunately, many in the Church missthe great blessing of fellowship with our Lordbecause we have lost the ability to recognizeHis voice within us. ough we have thepromise that My sheep hear My voice, toomany believers are starved for that intimaterelationship that alone can satisfy the desire oftheir hearts.

    I was one of those sheep who was deaf to hisShepherd until the Lord revealed four verysimple keys (found in Habakkuk 2:1, 2) that

    nlocked the treasure of His voice.

    Key #1: Gods voice in your heartften sounds like a flow of sponta-

    neous thoughts.Habakkuk knew the sound of God speak-ing to him (Hab. 2:2). Elijah described it as astill, small voice (I Kings 19:12). I had alwayslistened for an inner audiblevoice, and God

    does speak that way at times. However, I havefound that usually, Gods voice comes asspontaneous thoughts, visions, feelings, or

    impressions.

    For example, havent you been driving down

    the road and had a thought come to you topray for a certain person? Didnt you believe itwas God telling you to pray? What did Gods

    voice sound like? Was it an audible voice, orwas it a spontaneous thought that lit upon

    your mind?

    Experience indicates that we perceivespirit-level communication as spontaneousthoughts, impressions and visions, and Scrip-ture conrms this in many ways. For example,

    one denition ofpaga, a Hebrew word forintercession, is a chance encounter or an acci-dental intersecting. When God lays people onour hearts, He does it throughpaga, a chance-encounter thought accidentally intersectingour minds.

    erefore, when you want to hear from God,tune to chance-encounter or spontaneousthoughts.

    Key #2: Become still so you canense Gods flow of thoughts and

    emotions within.Habakkuk said, I will stand on my guardpost... (Hab. 2:1). Habakkuk knew that to hearGods quiet, inner, spontaneous thoughts, hehad to rst go to a quiet place and still his ownthoughts and emotions. Psalm 46:10 encour-ages us to be still, and know that He is God.ere is a deep inner knowing (spontaneousow) in our spirits that each of us can experi-ence when we quiet our esh and our minds.If we are not still, we will sense only our ownthoughts.

    Loving God through a quiet worship song isone very eective way to become still. (Note IIKings 3:15.) After I worship and become silentwithin, I open myself for that spontaneous

    ow. If thoughts come of things I have for-gotten to do, I write them down and dismissthem. If thoughts of guilt or unworthinesscome, I repent thoroughly, receive the washingof the blood of the Lamb, putting on His robeof righteousness, seeing myself spotless beforeGod (Is. 61:10; Col. 1:22).

    To receive the pure word of God, it is very im-portant that my heart be properly focused as Ibecome still because my focus is the source ofthe intuitive ow. If I x my eyes upon Jesus,the intuitive ow comes from Jesus. But if I xmy gaze upon some desire of my heart, the in-tuitive ow comes out of that desire. To have apure ow I must become still and carefully xmy eyes upon Jesus. Again, quietly worshiping

    the King, and receiving out of the stillness thatfollows quite easily accomplishes this.

    Fix your gaze upon Jesus (Heb. 12:2), becom-ing quiet in His presence and sharing withHim what is on your heart. Spontaneousthoughts will begin to ow from the throne ofGod to you, and you will actually be convers-ing with the King of Kings!

    Key #3: As you pray, fix the eyesof your heart upon Jesus, seeing inthe Spirit the dreams and visions ofAlmighty God.Habakkuk said, I will keep watch to see, andGod said, Record the vision (Hab. 2:1,2).Habakkuk was actually looking for vision as heprayed. He opened the eyes of his heart, andlooked into the spirit world to see what Godwanted to show him. is is an intriguing idea.

    God has always spoken through dreams andvisions, and He specically said that theywould come to those upon whom the HolySpirit is poured out (Acts 2:1-4, 17).

    I had never thought of opening the eyes of myheart and looking for vision. However, I havecome to believe that this is exactly what Godwants me to do. He gave me eyes in my heart

    to see in the spirit the vision and movement ofAlmighty God. ere is an active spirit worldall around us, full of angels, demons, the HolySpirit, the omnipresent Father, and His omni-present Son, Jesus. e only reasons for me notto see this reality are unbelief or lack of knowl-edge.

    In order to see, we must look. Daniel saw avision in his mind and said, I was looking...Ikept looking...I kept looking (Dan. 7:2,9,13).As I pray, I look for Jesus, and I watch as Hespeaks to me, doing and saying the things thatare on His heart. Many Christians will nd thatif they will only look, they will see, in the sameway they receive spontaneous thoughts. Jesusis Emmanuel, God with us (Matt. 1:23). It is

    as simple as that. You can see Christ presentwith you because Christ is present with you.In fact, the vision may come so easily that youwill be tempted to reject it, thinking that it is

    just you. But if you persist in recording thesevisions, your doubt will soon be overcome byfaith as you recognize that the content of themcould only be birthed in Almighty God.

    Jesus demonstrated the ability of living out ofconstant contact with God, declaring that He

    did nothing on His own initiative, but onlywhat Hesaw the Father doing, and heard theFather saying(Jn. 5:19,20,30). What an in-credible way to live!

    Is it possible for you to live out of divine ini-tiative as Jesus did? Yes! Fix your eyes uponJesus. e veil has been torn, giving access intothe immediate presence of God, and He calls

    you to draw near (Lk. 23:45; Heb. l0: 19-22). I

    pray that the eyes of your heart will be enlight-ened.

    Key #4: Journaling, the writing outof your prayers and Gods answers,brings great freedom in hearingGods voice.God told Habakkuk to record the vision (Hab.2:2). is was not an isolated command. e

    Scriptures record many examples of individu-als prayers and Gods replies (e.g. the Psalms,many of the prophets, Revelation).

    I call the process two-way journaling, andI have found it to be a fabulous catalyst forclearly discerning Gods inner, spontaneousow, because as I journal I am able to write infaith for long periods of time, simply believ-ing it is God. I know that what I believe I havereceived from God must be tested. However,testing involves doubt and doubt blocks divinecommunication, so I do not want to test whileI am trying to receive. With journaling, I canreceive in faith, knowing that when the owhas ended I can test and examine it carefully,making sure that it lines up with Scripture.

    You will be amazed when you journal. Doubtmay hinder you at rst, but throw it o , re-minding yourself that it is a biblical concept,and that God is present, speaking to His chil-dren. Relax. When we cease our labors andenter His rest, God is free to ow (Heb. 4:10).Sit back comfortably, take out your pen and pa-per, smile, and turn your attention toward theLord in praise and worship, seeking His face.After you write your question to Him, become

    still, xing your gaze on Jesus You will sud-denly have a very good thought. Dont doubtit; simply write it down. Later, as you read your

    journaling, you, too, will be blessed to discoverthat you are indeed dialoguing with God.

    Some final notes: Knowing God through theBible is a vital foundation to hearing His voicein your heart, so you must have a solid com-mitment to knowing and obeying the Scrip-

    tures. It is also very important for your growthand safety that you be related to solid, spiritualcounselors All major directional moves thatcome through journaling should be conrmedby your counselors before you act upon them.
