Visu Teoh has been practising Buddhist meditation and
following the Buddha’s Teachings since 1982. He was
born on the island of Penang in Malaysia, in 1953. He
was a journalist for 12 years and a Buddhist monk
(Visuddhacara) for 17 years before he returned to the
lay life in 2003. He trained as a monk with several
meditation masters, notably Sayadaw U Pandita,
Sayadaw U Lakkhana, Sayadaw U Jatila and Ven
Sujiva.
He is married to Barbara Grey who is German and for
some years now they have been dividing their time
between Penang and Europe. Visu leads metta and
vipassana retreats wherever he is invited. He is the
author of several books including “Curbing Anger
Spreading Love,” “Drinking Tea Living Life: Applying
Mindfulness in Everyday Life and Critical Times”,
“Loving and Dying” and “Hello with Love and Other
Meditations” and “Metta Meditation and Positive
Attitudes.”
Visu’s emphasis in his teaching is on the integration of
the Dhamma in everyday life while on our journey
towards Enlightenment. Visu stresses the importance of
living lightly, happily, peacefully, and joyfully in the
present moment while striving towards the final goal of
Nibbana – the end of greed, hatred, and delusion.
How can we be more loving, kind and gentle to ourselves and others?
Come join us for a meaningful weekend on April 4 and 5 to practise
Lovingkindness (Metta) meditation and discuss how we can
strengthen the beautiful qualities of love, kindness, compassion, and
wisdom in us.
Our meditation workshop and discussion will be led by Visu Teoh, a
highly experienced meditation teacher who combines a background of
17 years as a Buddhist monk together with practical experience of
applying the teachings in daily life as a spouse, home-maker and lay
teacher since he disrobed 12 years ago.
Visu leads Lovingkindness and Insight (Vipassana) meditation retreats
mostly in Europe and Hong Kong these days.
Metta meditation is the cultivation of lovingkindness through the
continuous generating of wholesome thoughts and well wishes
towards oneself, loved ones, friends, acquaintances, difficult ones and
all beings in general.
The meditation weakens anger and strengthens goodwill in us. It also
calms, gladdens, uplifts and heals the mind and heart while promoting
loving, kind, friendly and harmonious relationships with our loved
ones and all the people in our life.
Visu will guide us in doing the meditation in both the sitting and
walking posture besides discussing and answering questions on the
practice. In addition to Metta, Visu will discuss the complementary
practices of Compassion, Appreciative Joy, and Equanimity which
together with Metta are called the Four Divine Abidings
(brahmaviharas) by the Buddha.
For more information on Visu and his teachings, please visit his
website at www.visuteoh.net.
