The Place Where Play IS Learning!

Open Now Through January 5Sometimes it's stinky; sometimes it's crusty; and sometimes it's slimy. Explore why your body produces mushy, oozy, crusty, scaly and stinky gunk at "Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body" during its appearance at The Children's Museum of Memphis (CMOM). Based on the best-selling book "Grossology," this exhibition uses sophisticated animatronics and imaginative exhibits to tell you the good, the bad and the downright ugly about runny noses, body odor and much more. Take a "Tour du Nose" to explore 10 nasal features, including how your snoot acts as an air filter, a smell sensor and a mucus producer. Match the odor to the body part it comes from! Mimic the build up of acid indigestion by causing the "Burp Machine" to release a giant belch. Explore the role of the kidney in a virtual reality experience in "Urine: The Game." Climb a large-scale replica of human skin and discover other mysterious ways your body's biology does what it needs to do to keep you healthy. "Grossology" is a collaboration between Science World, Advanced Exhibits, and "Grossology" author Sylvia Branzei. As a teacher, writer, curriculum designer and microbiologist Branzei explains the concept of "Grossology" as a learning tool. "This is science in disguise," she says. "If we teach students in their own words, they'll understand better and actually learn something."

Ball

"That's a Wrap" - Special Events at CMOM!In October, everyone had a ball at the Third Annual Children's Ball! Carriage rides started the evening, then guests were treated to a performance by Danz House and the Bellevue School of Performing Arts. The evening was filled with delectable treats from Chik-fil-a, Colletta’s, Sonic and KFC. Cinderella and Prince Charming stopped by to dance at the parent and child rose ceremony. The Peabody Ducks marched down the red carpet with the Duckmaster and guests hunted for buried treasure to fill their treasure boxes. It was an enchanting evening for all!

On October 18, golfers teed up to support their favorite cause, CMOM! Around 100 golfers came out on a beautiful day to help raise more than $50,000 for our educational programs and exhibits. Golf chairs Ron Kastner, Chuck Hamlett, Britt Daniel and Philip Spinosa worked to ensure a fantastic event. Thank you to our Title Sponsor International Paper and to everyone that participated!
