EQUIFAX BREACH IMPORTANT!!!
WORRIED ABOUT THE EQUIFAX BREACH? HERE’S SOME INFO
THAT CAN HELP!
By Connie Thompson, KOMO 4 news.
By now you probably have heard that credit monitoring company,
Equifax, has had a security breach that exposed the Social Security
numbers and other sensive informaon of about 143 million
Americans. The breach exposed consumers’ names, socials, birth
dates, addresses, and in some cases even drivers license numbers. This data can be a key to
identy the%.
So what can you do?
There’s no evidence that personal informaon has been impacted so far. But we also know
that criminals o%en wait as long as 6 months to sell and use what they get from data
breaches like this.
Equifax is offering FREE ID-The% protecon and FREE Credit File monitoring to every con
sumer in the United States.
You must enroll to get in. The enrollment deadline is November 21, 2017.
You can get more informaon at Equifax.com
You can also contact the dedicated call center at 1-866-447-7559.
Equifax says it has hired a private cybersecurity firm to invesgate and is working with Law
enforcement, including the FBI.
Some more Helpful informaon for you:
If you are planning to purchase anything that requires Credit, you may
want to hold off on pu%ng the protecon on your social. Once you
have placed that protecon, you will no longer be able to get credit
instantly. So for example, if you are going to buy a car, you will have
to wait unl your identy can be verified before any loans may be put
into acon.
Same goes for simple things like just ge%ng a new cell phone. You
wont be able to just go in and get a new phone. There will be a lot of hoops to jump through to make that
happen.
However, it is also always be-er to be protects than to be sorry later.
