I begin to ponder and realize I am here. I then forget to sunder as I step onto the weir the journey of wonder.

In The Wilderness

of Chaos

~ A Not so Personal Story MindBody Harmonization

This began as a name for the type of therapy I do. I have come to learn it is also the art of living consciously well. To begin with, what is the art of living well? For one, it is not an end goal. It is a state of balancing the in and out breath of everything we touch, desire, and eat and do. We exhale and let life in. We inhale and let life out. You say what? Don't you mean when we exhale we let life out, how do we let life in? To answer this I pose another question, how can you let life in if your too full to receive anything more? Like wise when you have taken life in, the inhale then becomes the action of living the life you let in from the exhale. Confusing I know, and it isn’t important to understand which comes first, last or in-between. It will sort itself out. What is useful to understand is that the art refers to the ability to live well through the cycle of change, of give and take, or receive and surrender. It is the steps you take and the reflection of those steps that

allow for the movement of life. We can run around all helter-skelter, like hyper breath exhale without creating space for a proper inhale - reflection, or spend ing too much t ime reflect ing without enough exhales - exercising, and thereby becoming stagnant physically. Here I go confusing you again. The art of living life consciously is to recognize that their are many twists and turns, most of which we are not aware of in our 3D consciousness. That is we have an unconscious mind, so we don’t have to deal with all those twists and turns at every moment. We do have a conscious mind so we can make choices and reflect on things that no longer serve us ~ the art of MindBody Harmonization. T h e r e i s a l w a y s a balancing action happening. The river remains a river by meandering one way and then in another direction, otherwise it would come upon itself again and form a lake. If it does become a lake it forms a new creation, or expansion, the out b r e a t h o f l e t t i n g l i fe in. E a c h t w i s t and (con’t on page 5)

The Body is Designed for Movement While in my parrot aviary, I realized that I have

changed the energy level of one of my parrots through exercise. The hen I am referring to is a bit of a loner in that she prefers her own company and often sits off by herself, away from the flock. I noticed that lately her eyes looked glazed over and she looked bored, listless. She showed no signs of illness, however, just a desire to be recluse. I then realized that I had once spent a lot of time with her, reinforcing her natural behaviours with treats (some call this teaching a parrot tricks).

But time hasn't allowed me time to spend with her of late. Anyway, I have started to take her out of her flight and allow her to fly around the aviary a few times. She has brightened up significantly, and suddenly started to show interest in being with me by (con’t page 6)

In The Wilderness of Chaos ~ A Not so Personal Story

MindBody Harmonization (con’t from page 2)

turn the river makes, is its inhale and exhale. With each breath it takes, it connects with the earth and moves matter building a bank on one side and creating a beach on the other. Movement is an act of balancing, balancing creates movement, movement is life and life is harmonious. How you hear or view it depends on the filters with which you see and experience the world, the creations of and in life. Harmonization between things such as the mind and body which are only units made of countless other units manifesting and being manifested, is a dance of life. Each unit dances in tandem or with multiple and changing partners, some being more consistent, or longer term, than others. Our unit of the body, mind and soul trinity allows us to create and experience those creations, ourselves and the world were in. A soul begins a creation with a swirling mist of energy. Our mind begins to perceive an idea or joins with another and something new emerges. Our body allows us to experience and observe the creation and the soul knows it creation has been accomplished.

Now the art is to be able to see the creations for what they are instead of what we think they should be and participate without being in a state of fear. I am not talking just about fight or flight, surviving; but worry - being preoccupied with the outcome; anger - it not happening the way you think it should; sadness - being attached to it and not able to let it be what it is; and pretense or try too’s - perceiving your value is dependent upon it. We live in a culture that we co-manifest and we are also manifested by it. In turn we perpetuate that culture out of fear, or we create in it out of joy. Out of fear we want to hang onto things that are familiar even if they hurt us. Out of exploration, we desire joy. In fear we hold our breath, we don’t allow life in. In joy we exhale and then reflect on what that joy means while we turn to the next exploration with a renewed sense of self. The art of MindBody Harmonization is refining that sense of self. Put in the story tellers words “has to do with influencing the holistic element of your existence to nudge a specific element of your existence into something more appropriate” (ST) “You exist as !!!!! as a unit and it is that unit that has the sickness and it is that unit that has the health element. It is what you do about that unit that makes the difference.” (ST) With that being said “Being healthy is not the absence of disease. Being heathy is the acceptance of disease as something other than a threat.” (ST) A disease is a creation, something manifested. It does not define who we are, but it does define us by how we handle that creation, the mindset of coping with the in and outs of manifesting and un-manifesting that physical or mental state of being. The interchange of body affecting mind and mind affecting body, the choices that are made and those that were not made, the effect of those choices until the river comes upon itself and becomes a lake again and creates a new beginning.

“If we get a disease, realize it is our disease.  It is important for us to ask for help but we have the final say.   We are co-creators of our health. Realizing this creates less stress.   If we think a doctor can fix us, we probably won’t get well.  If we get cancer, educate ourselves as to how healthy cells look and the immune system will look for this and eliminate unhealthy cells.  Give up sayings like ‘positive and negative attitudes’. Detrimental attitude is what we don’t want. Eliminate ‘I can’t’.   The fact that we are attempting anything, gives us a feeling of success. If we feel that our life is slipping away, cure this with feelings of success.  Take a chance and do something different.” (ST)

MindBody Harmonization then is the art of the interplay between the exhale and inhale of the breath of creation, the interplay between the un-manifest, manifesting and manifested.

“Everything is a balancing act between the emptiness and fullness. Every creation provides chaos. That chaos from the creation is the open space that then requests a new creation into it. Everything.” (ST) For every exhale we let life in, for every inhale we give birth to life itself. For every river that comes upon itself to create a lake can give birth to a new river. How do you want to dance with the art of living your life consciously? In FEAR ~ false evidence appearing real, or in joy. Once you decide here are few simple, yet perhaps difficult steps to help you on your way to live more harmoniously with yourself, your body, your soul and the world around you. First step is to recognize when you are reacting in fear, or acting in joy. Second step is to recognize you have choice and thirdly eliminate the I can’ts. Instead, reframe it into something that you can do no matter how minuscule that might be. It will lead to something you want to do. Not the superficial want but to the one that will give you the most joy. The art of getting there is MindBody Harmonization or Jin Shin.

(con’t from page 3) soliciting treats by repeating her tricks (not on

command). Now I give her fifteen minutes each morning to fly around and do tricks and get head scratches from me (parrots depend on another parrot to preen their head feathers). Her life has been re-energized, and she no longer sits listless with dull eyes. Indeed she seems eager to exercise daily, obviously because of the renewed energy she feels. And, when we first started she'd only fly a short distance before being tired whereas now she can fly a lot without showing any fatigue. Her posture has improved significantly as well, no longer sitting on her perch with her back hunched.

It struck me that many of the Tai Chi students I've seen drop out of classes over the years don't realize that two things are at work here. The engagement in an energetic activity seems overshadowed by mental frustration at not getting up to speed on the postures as quickly as the senior students, and thus feelings of

inadequacy seep into the mind. And the mind doesn't seem to value the exercise the body is obtaining, the mind erroneously preferring to believe that the body remains as fit as when we were children running about obtaining exercise by simply living life through activities. This mind and body division is apparent especially in students who aren't open to constructive criticism from the teacher, and are blind to what the mirror is telling them about their postures.

And as for those who drop out, they are often those who miss a class or two because they don't feel up to taking the class that day, they are missing out on the energetic benefit of experiencing the class practice, the movements, the exercise. And missing a class only because of 'not feeling up to attending', in my humble estimation, soon becomes a bad habit, and quickly leads to the same condition as my parrot experienced: Listlessness, which leads to depression, and even more listlessness. And soon health issues arise. And, yes, it all comes down to e x e r c i s e w h i c h l e a d s t o f e e l i n g s o f accomplishment and energy and a positive outlook. Anyway, it seems we all need to realize that our mind can play tricks on us at times, and thus we are best to keep vigilant in that regard. (And make attending our exercise-type activities a good habit.)  By Ray Dorge
