    Social Story:

Going to watch the theater show

  • We are here to watch the theater show!

We are here to watch a theater show called Mamma Mia!

Seeing a theater show is a little bit like watching a show on TV, or

seeing a movie. But the people in a show are right there on the

stage. They are called actors. They wear costumes, like sparkly

    jackets.

This is a special kind of theater show called a musical. The actors

will tell a story by singing and dancing.

  • The show will have lights. Sometimes the lights will be bright.

If the lights are too bright, I can cover my eyes.

Other times, the stage will be dark, with just a little bit of light.

There are a lot of people here. They might be sitting, standing, or

walking around. We need to stay with our family.

If it is too loud, I can cover my ears, or ask an adult for help.

  • If we don’t know where to go, we can ask the girls to show us

    where to go.

When we are in the theater, we see the stage, where the actors

    will dance and sing.

We see the band – it’s a group of people with musical

instruments. They might even be playing the musical instruments:

    piano

    flute

  • We also see a lot of chairs.

During the show, I can sit in a chair,

    or sit on the ground,

    or stand up.

  • There’s also a hallway where we can go for a break.

From the hallway, I can find a bathroom. If I need to use the

bathroom, I can ask an adult.

In the hallway, there is a water fountain. If I

want to drink water from the water fountain, I

    can ask an adult.

  • There is also a Quiet Area, which is a room where I can go anytime

during the show if I need a break. In the Quiet Area, there will not

be any music or noise from the show.

When the show starts, the actors will come out on the stage. They

will say “hello” to us, and tell us their names. Then, they will start

the show! They will start to sing and dance. The people in the

band will play their musical instruments.

They will tell us the story of Mamma Mia!

  • If it is too loud, I can cover my ears or ask an adult for help.

If I feel afraid or nervous, I can cover my ears, or ask an adult for

    help.

I know that even though the music can be loud, I am always safe.

If I need to, I can let my family know that I need a break, and I can

go to the Quiet Area. I can come back to my seat to see the show

when I’m ready after my break.

  • After each song, some people will clap.

Clapping is nice because it tells the actors you liked their song. If

I want to clap, I can. I don’t have to clap if I don’t want to.

If the clapping is too loud, I can cover my ears, or ask an adult for

help. I know that even though the clapping can be loud and can

feel scary, none of the noise can hurt me.

At the end of the show, all of the actors will come out on the

stage. Many people will clap a lot so the actors know how much

    everyone liked the show.

  • After the show is over, we might see some of the actors. I can go

look at the actors or talk to the actors if I want to.

Next, we will leave the school.

Going to see a theater show can be really fun!

The students here are so happy that I am here to see their show!
