I Casey Garcia wasborn at Brooklyn,Ohio. I servedeight years in theNavy, the last twoaboard USS FRANK E.EVANS (DD 754). In1962, I made SK1.
Commander CruiserDestroyer Force,U.S. Pacific Fleetawarded the SupplyEfficiency Plaqueto FRANK E. EVANSin ‘62 and ‘63. Theaward is given whena ship attainsOUTSTANDING as agrade during the
annual Supply Inspection. The criteria to win this award are verystringent. It required team work and excellence on every ones part.To the best of my knowledge, this was the only time in the life ofFRANK E. EVANS that such an award was given. As a Store-keeper, Iwas in charge of both the Commissary and Ship’s Store records.Command told me that I was largely responsible for this achievementand was deservedly recognized.

After service, I went to college in Long Beach, California whereI lived until 1970 when I took a position as Sales Manager with acompany in Cleveland, Ohio. I had the opportunity to travel to all50 U.S. States and 91 countries. So I can say, I never got the urgeto travel out of my system. The company manufactured engine andfuel injection parts for Detroit Diesel, Cummins, Caterpillar andEMD Diesel Engines. In 1981 we received the prestigiousPresidential “E” award for excellence in Export. Only a handfulachieve this goal. I retired in 2001 as Vice President, Sales.
