SINS VS. VIRTUES
WHAT DO THEY TEACH ABOUT MORALITY
IN RELATION TO THE CAPITAL SINS?
PRIDE vs HUMILITY
PRIDE
• One of the seven capital
sins. Pride is undue self-
esteem or self-love, which
seeks attention and honor
and sets oneself in
competition with God
(CCC 1866).
HUMILITY
• The virtue by which a Christian acknowledges that God is the author of all good. Humility avoids inordinate ambition or pride, and provides the foundation for turning to God in prayer (CCC 2559). Voluntary humility can be described as "poverty of spirit" (CCC 2546).

(CCC 1822).
WRATH vs PATIENCE
WRATH/ANGER
An emotion which is not in itself wrong, but which, when it is not controlled by reason or hardens into resentment and hate, becomes one of the seven capital sins. Christ taught that anger is an offense against the fifth commandment (CCC 1765, 1866, 2262).
PATIENCE/MEEKNESS

The moral virtue which, under the cardinal virtue of temperance, provides for the successful integration of sexuality within the person leading to the inner unity of the bodily and spiritual being (CCC 2337). Chastity is called one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit (CCC 1832).
GLUTTONY vs TEMPERANCE
GLUTTONY
• Overindulgence in food
or drink. Gluttony is
one of the seven capital
sins (CCC 1866).
