ARTICLE I – BYLAWS

Section A. Bylaw Distribution

I. Copies of these bylaws will be provided for each member at the first chapter

following their submission to Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Section B. Regulations Regarding Active Chapter Bylaws

I. Sigma Chi Constitution, Statute 6.02b: Active Chapters shall adopt bylaws for the

government and for the regulation and control of their revenues and properties

and shall file a copy with the Executive Secretary immediately upon adoption;

provided that no such bylaw shall be invalid or which conflicts with any

provisions of the Constitution, Statutes, Ritual of the enactment’s of the

Fraternity.

Section C. Amendment of Bylaws

I. To amend these bylaws, a proposal must be submitted to the Executive

Committee (EC) in writing. Said proposal must first pass a vote by the EC by a

majority vote and shall then be brought up at the next chapter meeting under New

Business and must obtain a higher number of votes (not majority) of the chapter

to be amended.

II. Only voting members as defined by Article II, Section E may vote to amend the

bylaws.

Section D. National Fraternity Bylaws

I. National Fraternity Bylaws override the Gamma Omega bylaws.

ARTICLE II – MEMBERSHIP

Section A. Recruitment

I. Brothers must attend a minimum of 60% of the Rush events to take part in a bid

vote.

II. The bid session will be run by the Recruitment Chairman. The Recruitment

Chairman will arrange pictures of the rushes.

III. A rush is required to have a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0 in order to

receive a bid to pledge Sigma Chi per instruction of National Headquarters

(Governing law 3.07-2). First (1st) semester freshman and transfer students are

exempt.

IV. A person not receiving three (3) dings is automatically passed for pledgeship.

V. Three (3) dings during the bid vote warrants a once-around discussing points-

against and then a once-around discussing points-for the rushee, followed by a

final vote during which three (3) dings denies the rushee a bid to pledge.

VI. At least three (3) votes shall be held during pledgeship.

VII. A pledgeship can only be broken by a vote of twenty percent (20%) or more of

voting members at the first two blackball votes or ten percent (10%) at the final

vote (in any remaining blackball votes) or three (3) dings if under thirty (30)

voting members.

VIII. No person shall be pledged to membership in the Sigma Chi Fraternity unless he

qualifies under Statutes 3.07 a-c, 3.07-2, and 3.10 of the Sigma Chi Constitution.

Section B. Pledging

I. Pledges will be required to take a quiz at least once a week on the material

recently covered in the pledge education program in order to reach a strong level

of preparedness for the Official Pledge Exam.

II. The Magister must set a schedule of events and key dates for the pledge training

program.

III. Each pledge class will be required to make a decorative paddle to be hung in the

house.

Section C. Initiation

I. No person shall be initiated into membership unless a formal vote of final

approval by no less than ninety percent (90%) of the active chapter’s voting

members is administered.

II. No person shall be initiated into membership unless he has served the entire

pledge program under the tutelage of the Magister, has passed the official Pledge

Examination, and has received certification of passing from the chapter’s Grand

Praetor.

III. No person shall be initiated into membership of the Sigma Chi Fraternity unless

he qualifies under the statutes 3.07-3.09 of the Sigma Chi constitution.

IV. Every member, upon Initiation, is obligated to pay dues in full to the Quaestor

beginning the semester following initiation.

V. All pre-Initiation activities and Initiation procedures must meet the conduct

guidelines outlined in the Sigma Chi Fraternity’s Conduct Handbook.

VI. Formal attire is mandatory for all members and pledges at the Initiation

Ceremony.

Section D. Post Initiation Training (PIT)

I. PIT shall be led by the Pro-Consul, who shall conduct a minimum of five (5) PIT

sessions each semester with the newly-initiated pledge class.

II. PIT sessions are mandatory for all newly initiated Brothers, and it is required that

all newly-initiated members attend Province Workshop the semester following

their initiation.

III. The first 5 PIT meetings or any number deemed necessary by the Pro Consul shall

be mandatory for the most recently initiated brothers. For each unexcused absence

following the third unexcused absence said member will be charged twenty-five

dollars ($25) for each subsequently missed PIT.

IV. Discussion schedule for PIT sessions shall proceed as follows:

Session 1 – Discussion of PIT system and the recently conducted Initiation

ceremony. Description of the ordinance and operation of Chapter meetings.

Session 2 – Discussion of Ritual Obligations as set forth in the Ritual of

Sigma Chi.

Session 3 – Discussion of Chapter By-laws and financial obligations. Duties

of Chapter officers and committees.

Session 4 – Discussion of the workings of IFC, All-Greek Council, and

Greek Judicial Board.

Session 5 – Discussion of Risk Management, University and Sigma Chi

General Fraternity hazing policy.

Section E. Vote Acquisition and Voting Rights

I. In order for a newly initiated brother to acquire his vote, he must fulfill his ritual

obligations to the Consul, Pro-Consul, or Annotator.

II. A newly initiated brother will be allowed to vote for the three (3) chapter

meetings following his initiation, regardless of his attendance.

III. Only brothers that have gained their right to vote through the aforementioned

methods may be allowed to participate in voting, unless otherwise noted by the

Consul or Pro-Consul. This specifically excludes any officer elections or voting

regarding amendments to the bylaws.

IV. Those brothers that do not have their vote will be given a four week grace period

in the beginning of the semester to attain there vote. If any brother fails to do gain

their vote after this time period, they will not be allowed to attend any social

events sponsored by Sigma Chi.

Section F. Affiliation

I. Any member of another chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity may become an

affiliate with the Gamma Omega Chapter only after written confirmation is

received from both the college/university he previously attended and his original

chapter verifying his good standing academically and financially.

II. Any affiliate member is subject to all provisions of the bylaws of the Gamma

Omega Chapter of Sigma Chi.

Section G. Inactive Members

I. Any brother will be considered active while attending the University of

Connecticut at Storrs as an undergraduate on a full or part time basis or residing

in the chapter house, thus requiring the fulfillment of any and all active member

obligations, both financial and those enumerated in these bylaws and the Sigma

Chi Constitution.

II. The Gamma Omega Chapter recognizes no inactive status for any duly initiated

undergraduate member unless said member is on an internship, exchange

program, co-operative education program, or by vote of the chapter.

III. Those members who are exempt are obligated to pay the Quaestor $100 for local

chapter dues in addition to any RMF insurance fees for the perpetuation of

chapter activities and continuation of affiliation with the General Fraternity.

IV. Any duly initiated member who is continuing his studies as a graduate student at

the University may remain active upon request provided he pays all dues and

fulfills his financial obligations to the chapter.

V. Inactive members relinquish all privileges and voting rights. Inactive members

may not participate in chapter activities unless otherwise allowed by the chapter

by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of approval.

VI. An active member may gain alumnus status with the chapter if he graduates or has

been an active, initiated Brother for four and one-half (4 ½) years or nine

semesters.

Section H. Big Brothers

I. The Magister and Pro-Magisters may not have Little Brothers during their terms

in office.

II. When brothers pick little brothers during the pledge process, the order starts from

oldest pledge class (without a little brother) to the most recently initiated pledge

class. Within each pledge class, the order of choosing a little brother is

determined by GPA. Brothers with the highest GPA will choose first followed by

brothers with lower GPAs

ARTICLE III – MEETINGS AND EVENTS

Section A. Chapter Meetings

I. A regular formal meeting schedule for chapter meetings shall be set forth at the

beginning of every semester by the Consul so that the highest attendance is

achieved. Any deviation from said schedule shall be announced by the Consul

twenty-four (24) hours prior to the meeting time.

II. Special chapter meetings may be called by the Consul at any time and shall be

called by him upon the request of any five (5) brothers.

III. All regular chapter meetings shall be conducted according to the provisions of

Division 1 in the Ritual of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Procedures not covered in

the Ritual shall be conducted according to Robert’s Rules of Order.

Section B. Attendance

I. Attendance at Chapter meetings is mandatory for all members.

II. Three (3) tardy appearances or three (3) early departures is the equivalent of one

(1) unexcused absence.

III. A member who has accumulated three (3) unexcused absences in a semester will

lose the privilege to vote until said member pays a twenty-five dollar ($25) fine or

fulfills Ritual obligation as deemed by the Executive Committee.

IV. Members may compile a total of three (3) unexcused absences from the Chapter

meetings per semester. For each unexcused absence following the third unexcused

absence said member will be charged twenty-five dollars ($25) by the Chapter.

V. Any member who has been fined for missing chapter due to accumulation of

unexcused absences shall be place on social probation until the balance of the fine

has been paid to the Quaestor.

VI. Attendance at all Fraternity Events (including rush events, pledge events,

philanthropic, and community service) is mandatory for all members, except those

events deemed as “optional” by the Executive Committee.

VII. If any brother is being disruptive to the chapter meeting taking place he may be

removed from the meeting based on a vote of the following three brothers:

-Consul

-Pro-Consul

-Annotator

If at least two of these three brothers vote to remove the disruptive brother from

the meeting, then he will be given an unexcused absence.

VIII. If a brother does not attend chapter or a mandatory pledge event and does not

have an excused absence, he will not be allowed to attend any social event the

following week sponsored by Sigma Chi.

Section C. Fines and Excused Absences

I. If a member fails to attend an event, a written excuse must be submitted to the

Executive Committee prior to the chapter meeting following that event or the

member will be subject to a twenty-five ($25) dollar fine. The Executive

Committee will hold a vote to determine the validity of said excuse. Simple

majority shall determine the outcome of the vote.

II. Legal excuses for absences shall be the following: personal illness, illness or

death in a member’s family, scheduled class, chapter intramural activities, work

on a professional level other than school, and military obligation.

III. The Executive Committee has final discretion on all excuses.

IV. A brother who is absent from the Initiation ceremony with no legal excuse shall

be fined one hundred dollars ($100).

V. Any person that does damage to fraternity property, sober or intoxicated, will be

held financially responsible for any costs incurred from repair or replacement

stemming from their actions. This damage must be rectified within one (1) week

of the incident, after which a twenty-five dollar ($25) fine or price of

replacement/repair (whichever is greater) will be imposed on said person.

Section D. Voting

I. No member shall have voting privileges until obligations as set forth in Article II,

Sections E are fulfilled in their entirety. For any instance deemed appropriate by

the Executive Committee, excluding officer elections and votes on bylaw

amendments or changes, any member may be permitted to vote.

II. There shall be no voting by proxy.

III. Voting shall be through assimilation and a simple majority wins system shall

decide all questions unless otherwise provided by these bylaws.

IV. The Consul will vote only to break a tie.

V. A white ballot will be called only when there is one (1) nominee for an election.

VI. No active member, who misses more than 50% of chapter meetings, whether the

absences are excused or unexcused, can vote in an E.C. election.

VII. Inactive members cannot vote in any election.

Section E. Community Service

I. All brothers must complete a minimum of five hours of community service

through Sigma Chi sponsored community service events per semester. The

chapter-wide community service event required for Project Arete does not count

towards the five hours of community service.

ARTICLE IV – FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS

Section A. Pledge Fees

I. Pledge fees, in addition to the fee set by the General Fraternity, are set at ninety

dollars ($90).

Section B. Initiation Fees

I. Initiation fees, in addition to the fee set by the General Fraternity, shall be set at

one-hundred seventy-five dollars ($175).

Section C. Active Dues

I. Active dues shall be adjusted per semester based upon the approved chapter

budget.

II. Dues should be paid at the first chapter meeting of the semester.

III. Payment plans and sanctions for non-payment will be worked out by the

Quaestor.

IV. Members who do not pay dues on time as per the schedule and payment plans set

forth by the Quaestor will have sanctions brought against them including, but not

limited to, chapter suspension, or financial expulsion.

Section D. Financial Suspension

I. A Brother financially suspended by Sigma Chi General Fraternity Headquarters

shall be dually financially suspended by the Gamma Omega Chapter.

II. A brother financially suspended by the Gamma Omega Chapter may not

participate in any Chapter operations, including, but not limited to: Chapter

meetings, Chapter social functions, Chapter Pledge events, Ceremonies of

Initiation, and IFC/NPC philanthropies and events.

III. Upon payment of debt, a financially suspended Brother may be re-instated by the

General Fraternity Headquarters and the Gamma Omega Chapter (Executive

Committee Regulations, Statutes 3.19, 7.02).

ARTICLE V – OFFICERS

Section A. Executive Committee

I. The executive Committee (E.C.) shall be composed of the Consul, Pro Consul,

Magister, Recruitment Chairman, Quaestor, Annotator, Risk Manager, Tribune

and Scholarship Chairman.

II. The E.C. meetings shall be presided over by the Pro-Consul, who shall hold no

vote except in the case of a tie.

III. The E.C. meetings shall be held weekly for the purpose of assisting the Consul in

planning the Chapter Meeting’s Agenda

Section B. Other Officers

I. The officers of the Gamma Omega Chapter shall be those described in the Sigma

Chi Ritual and, in addition, such officers as are necessary to perform the

administration of the chapter.

Section B. Nominations and Eligibility for Office

I. Nominations for E.C. shall be made at least three (3) weeks before the regular

chapter just prior to Initiation. The E.C. shall be elected one week prior to

Initiation in Chapter and shall be sworn in at the chapter meeting following

Initiation.

II. Any brother may make a nomination from the floor. However, any brother who is

nominated must fulfill academic standards and, in the case of E.C., the nominee

must have completed his voting requirements.

III. All nominees for Executive Committee (E.C.) positions must submit a report of

qualifications and goals to the current E.C. at least two (2) weeks prior to the

election date. E.C. will then make recommendations to the Chapter regarding all

nominees and give their recommendations of whether the nominee is worthy of an

office.

IV. In order to hold a position on E.C., the Brother must have completed his

obligations to obtain voting rights, as outlined in Article II, Section E. If a brother

has lost his vote from non-attendance, he may still run for an E.C. position, but he

must have his vote reinstated by the time of the election to be eligible for the

position. See Article III, Section B, provision III.

V. Any brother holding or desiring to hold any position on EC within the Gamma

Omega Chapter of Sigma Chi must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

I. The term of office for officers appointed and elected shall be for one (1) semester

beginning at the chapter meeting following the election of the appointment unless

installed immediately by the Consul for Specific Cause.

II. The Quaestor shall serve a term of one year.

Section D. Vote of Confidence

I. Any brother may call for a vote of confidence upon any officer if he can provide

evidence that said officer has not fulfilled the obligations of his appointed job.

II. A once-around shall be held to discuss the points-against the officer, followed

immediately by a once-around discussing the points-for the officer.

III. A simple majority in the vote of confidence determines the officer’s continuance

of duties.

Section E. Officer Reports

I. Every officer is required to turn in at least one report every three (3) meetings or a

vote of confidence will be called during the New Business portion of the Chapter

Meeting when said report is due.

ARTICLE VI – Officer DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Section A. Duties and Responsibilities of Executive Committee

I. All members of the E.C. are required to attend the weekly meeting. If full

attendance is not attained, a majority of members present will constitute an E.C.

decision.

II. One unexcused E.C. meeting absence results in the loss of the officers voting

rights for one (1) week.

III. Three unexcused absences from E.C. meetings will result in a twenty-five dollar

($25) fine and a loss of voting rights for three (3) weeks.

Section B. Duties and Responsibilities of Individual Executive Committee Officers

I. Any brother holding or desiring to hold any position on EC within the Gamma

Omega chapter of Sigma Chi must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, if a

brother is to fall below this mark, at the subsequent chapter nominations will be

given for said position. The following chapter will then be elections.

Consul

Preside over chapter meetings and other chapter affairs and activities.

Responsible for the security of the Charter, Ritual, and Ritualistic Materials.

Possess a working knowledge of the Sigma Chi Governing Laws, Ritual, Risk

Management Regulations, Chapter Bylaws, and Interfraternity regulations.

Maintain a close relationship and communication with Chapter Advisors, House

Cooperation, Grand Praetor, Alumni, Headquarters, and Interfraternity Officials.

Maintain current knowledge of all chapter and member developments and activities

and follow up through appropriate officers on all operations and programs.

Attend Leadership Training Workshop.

Pro-Consul

Work closely with the Consul in carrying out chapter operations.

Act as chairman of the chapter’s EC.

Direct the Post Initiation Training programs for each group of new initiates.

Coordinate the work of the chapter committees and serve as a liaison between them,

the chapter and EC.

Assume the duties of the Consul, should he be absent or unable to serve, and carry out

other duties as the Consul requests.

Attend Leadership Training Workshop.

Annotator

Updates and distributes an active brother roster prior to the second chapter of the

semester.

Responsible for calling brothers prior to all Chapter events.

Records minutes at chapter meetings.

Maintains a minute record book.

Posts minutes at chapter house and e-mails minutes to active brothers.

Records and maintains Executive Committee, Chapter Meeting, and pledge event

attendance records.

Maintains all policies, bylaws, etc. in Chapter files.

Any brother whose GPA the previous semester is not above a 2.5 is required to attend

a minimum of 9 study hours at the library per week and will result in social probation.

The brother must meet with the scholarship chairman once a week to show

progression. Social privileges will be granted at the discretion of the scholarship chair

and the EC board. In addition, that brother must provide the scholarship chairman

with a copy of their grades for that current semester 2 weeks prior to formal or semi –

formal in order to be able to attend. Furthermore, any brother receiving a semester

GPA below 2.5 must enroll in the Uconn Connects Program. The brother must

complete, at minimum, a full semester in the program. If the brother does not abide

by this policy, EC reserves the right to take further disciplinary action if the GPA is

not improved the following semester.

ARTICLE VII – SPECIAL COMMITTEES

Special Committees may be called by the Consul or Pro-Consul and may be led by an

individual or individuals as designated by the Consul or Pro-Consul

Section A. Meetings

I. Each special committee shall meet a minimum of two (2) times per semester,

consisting of a planning sessions and a review/officer transition session.

II. Each special committee shall work in conjunction with their respective Alumni

Advisory Board member.

Section B. Ritual Committee

I. The Ritual Committee shall consist of the Magister, Consul, Kustos, Pro-

Magisters, and Scholarship Chairman, and shall be presided over by the Magister

II. The Ritual Committee shall be responsible for the planning and preparation of the

Pledge program at the beginning of each semester and I-week at the end of the

Pledge program.

Section C. Communications Committee

I. The Communications Committee shall consist of the Tribune, Annotator, Chapter

Editor, Historian, and Philanthropy Chairmen, and shall be presided over by the

Tribune and Annotator.

II. The Communications Committee’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Reviewing and improving upon relations with Sigma Chi General Headquarters,

Gamma Omega Alumni, the University of Connecticut, and the Storrs-Mansfield

community.

The scheduling and preparation of Alumni and Brothers’ Day events, Senior Roasts

and Derby Days.

Organizing participation in NPC and University philanthropies, Homecoming and

Greek Week.

Section D. Recruitment Committee

I. The Recruitment Committee shall consist of the Recruitment Chairman, Assistant

Recruitment Chairman, and T-shirt Chairman, and shall be presided over by the

Recruitment Chairman.

II. The Recruitment Committee shall be responsible for the scheduling and planning

of the formal “Rush” period and year-round Recruitment events, and the

production of Rush Calendars and Rush T-shirts each semester.

III. The Recruitment Committee shall continually review and attempt to improve

upon the recruitment process.

Section E. Finance Committee

I. The Finance Committee shall consist of the Quaestor, Fundraising Chairmen, and

House manager, and shall be presided over by the Quaestor.

II. The Finance Committee shall be responsible at the beginning of each semester

for creating a Chapter budget, setting the price of Chapter dues and the dates for

billing and collection through Omega Financial, and presenting them to the

Chapter for approval.

ARTICLE VIII (A) – CONDUCT

Section A. Personal Conduct

I. Each brother and pledge shall conduct himself in a respectable manner, which

shall preclude any conduct prejudicial to good order or unbecoming of a member

of the Fraternity within the meaning of its laws while he is on chapter grounds or

engaged in a chapter related function, or is engaged in any activity which shall be

a reflection of the chapter because of his actions. This is a reaffirmation of THE

JORDAN STANDARD, THE SPIRIT OF SIGMA CHI, Fraternal by-laws and

the General Fraternity’s “Drug and Anti-Hazing Statement”.

II. Any violation of the above ruling shall be subject to the disciplinary action of the

Board of Conduct (Article VIII.B).

III. Any brother who voluntarily brings or invites anyone into the house during a

brother’s only event, particularly pledge events, closed parties, etc. will be asked

to leave the house. If he refuses, sanctions including, but not limited to, fines or

suspension will be brought directly to the chapter at the next chapter meeting.

IV. Any brother who goes against Chapter, University or Risk Management

guidelines will have sanctions brought against him including, but not limited to,

fines, social probation or suspension.

Section B. Conduct with Pledges

I. Every member of the chapter shall treat the pledges of the chapter with high

respect and esteem emulating those ideals of the White Cross, as one deserves. In

no way shall these actions be in violation of the guidelines set-up here in Article

VII, Section B of these by-laws.

II. Any brother in violation of the foregoing rule shall be subject to the disciplinary

action of the Board of Conduct and, at their discretion, be subject to the actions

put forth in the Sigma Chi Constitution, Statutes 7.01 and 7.02.

III. All pre-Initiation activities and Initiation procedures prohibited by the Ritual,

Magister’s Manual and Sigma Chi Fraterntiy’s Conduct Handbook are prohibited,

particularly any forms of hazing, dangerous, wasteful or fatiguing activity.

Activities must be in accordance Sigma Chi Statutes 6.02e and 6.02f of the Sigma

Chi Constitution and the guidelines and policy issued form the Executive

Committee of the Fraternity in the Statement of Policy on Pledge Education

adopted by the Executive Committee in 1991 and reaffirmed in 1993.

ARTICLE VIII (B) – BOARD OF CONDUCT

Section A. Membership

I. The board of Conduct shall consist of the Risk Manager and brothers appointed

by the Pro-Consul at the beginning of each semester, and shall be overseen by the

Risk Manager.

II. Appointed Brothers may be removed by the Pro-Consul from the Board of

Conduct at any time.

Section B. Charges

I. Any Brother or Pledge may bring charges against a member to the Board of

Conduct.

II. The Executive Committee Officer under whose jurisdiction the violation falls will

verify the existence of the charge.

Section C. Hearing Procedures

I. Any Brother or Pledge being charged with a violation will be notified no less than

one (1) week prior to the Board of Conduct hearing. If said Brother or Pledge fails

to appear at the scheduled time of the hearing, the hearing will be conducted in his

absence.

II. Charges shall be presented to the Board of Conduct by the Executive Committee

Officer under whose jurisdiction the violation falls. After presentation of the

charges, the accused Brother or Pledge shall have the opportunity to present his

defense and call any witnesses.

III. A majority vote of the Board of Conduct is necessary to find a Brother or Pledge

guilty of the charges. The Risk Manager shall only cast his vote in the event of a

tie.

IV. Upon finding a Brother or pledge guilty of said violation of the Constitution or

Chapter by-laws, the Board of Conduct will discharge appropriate disciplinary

action.

Section D. Disciplinary Action

I. Any Brother or Pledge found guilty of a violation shall have the following

sanctions brought against him by the Board of Conduct including, but not limited

to, fines, social probation or suspension.

a. Fines shall not exceed fifty dollars ($50) unless damage has occurred to Chapter

property or personal property.

b. Financial or conduct suspension must be approved of by a three quarters (¾)

majority of voting members.

II. The Risk Manager will take the documented decision to the following Executive

Committee meeting. Upon receipt of Conduct Committee decisions, the Pro-

Consul will either sign the documented decision for final approval or resubmit to

the Conduct Committee for revision.

ARTICLE IX – RISK MANAGEMENT

Section A. Policy

I. The Gamma Omega Chapter adopts All University and National Risk

Management policies.

II. The Gamma Omega Chapter adopts all IFC/NPC Risk Management policies.

Section B. Sober Driver List

I. It shall be the duty of the Risk Manager to create a sober driver list.

II. There shall be a sober driver assigned for every Thursday, Friday and Saturday

night of the semester. A sober driver shall not be assigned to those nights that

coincide with a University break or National holiday (i.e. spring break,

Thanksgiving break, Christmas etc.) or that immediately predate any such

University break (i.e. the Friday before Thanksgiving or Spring Break) or exam

schedule.

III. The brother sober driving shall be responsible for driving from nine (9) PM of the

night assigned until two (2) AM of the following morning.

IV. The order for choosing sober driver dates shall be chosen in order of hierarchy

with respect to those holding offices on EC, then to the number of semesters as a

brother. All remaining days shall be filled in the reverse order.

V. Brothers not fulfilling their obligations as sober driver shall be fined one hundred

and fifty dollars ($150).

VI. If you do not fulfill your responsibilities as a sober driver, then you will not be

allowed to use sober drivers for the rest of the semester.

VII. Details of sober driver requirements are as follows: Drivers must have their

phones fully charged before they begin driving. Stopping to charge your phone is

not a valid excuse to stop driving, and is a “J-board able” offense.

VIII. On a night when Sigma Chi hosts a social event drivers have to start driving by 9

pm (or earlier if deemed necessary by Risk Management) and drive until everyone

is home from the social event.

IX. Brothers always take priority. On non-social event nights drivers can only drive

non-brothers if they are idle and no brothers need rides at a given time.

X. Brothers must be picked up in the order that they call. Officers or older brothers

cannot overrule a driver and demand a ride out of turn.

XI. On nights when Sigma Chi hosts a social event, drivers can only take people to

and from social event.

XII. When drivers start bringing people home they must stop answering their phones

except for brothers residing at the location hosting the social event and brothers

on the executive committee.

XIII. When bringing people home, drivers must drive to the bottom of the driveway

before they let people into their cars.

XIV. Rides home are on a first-come, first-served basis.

XV. Drivers must lock their doors and wait for sober monitors or risk managers to

designate passengers.

XVI. At any given time risk managers can declare the social event “full” and drivers

will have to stop bringing people (except brothers) to the social event.

ARTICLE X – HOUSING

Section A. Determination of House Members

I. Non-brothers are not permitted to live/sublet in the house.

II. Only active brothers are permitted to live in the house: a brother can only be

considered active if he is an undergraduate, full-time student at the University of

Connecticut, in good academic standing, and in good financial standing with the

chapter.

III. Priorities for moving in the house shall be determined by:

a. Greatest number of semesters as an active member in the chapter

b. GPA

c. Chapter financial standing

d. Having a roommate already selected

e. Having a maintained GPA greater than 2.0

f. Signing of an official, legally binding, document requiring the said brother to

honor their housing assignment upon the signature of said document
