Avinyonet del Penedès is uniquely located, near Barcelona and Tarragona. The region is dotted with widely dispersed towns and villages, each with its own special personality and small (and not so small) jewels waiting to be discovered by the visitor. Two geographical features mark out the region: a relatively flat plain, dominated by vineyards, and a mountainous region with abundant forests, which taken together offer a landscape full of colour and contrast.
Wine cellars, accommodation surrounded by vineyards, the regional cuisine, wines and cava, the local fiestas and simply discovering the region via the cultural routes and trails amongst the vineyards are just some of the possibilities offered to the visitor by the rich cultural heritage of Avinyonet del Penedès.

Iberian archaeological site of “Turó de la Font de la Canya”
Romanesque monastery of Sant Sebastià dels GorgsThis 11th century Benedictine monastery built in the Romanesque style is in the centre of San Sebastià dels Gorgs. It was declared an asset of national interest by the Regional Government of Catalonia in 2000.
A route takes you through the interior of the monastery grounds and the church, and explanations are given of the context, the historical evolution of the building, daily life there and the organisation of the Benedictine monks that lived in this jewel of the Romanesque style in the heart of the Penedès.

Microvi Exposition, fiestas and a living Nativity Scene
In spring the Microvi Exposition of wines made by small local producers is held. In summer, the festes majors (local festivals) are celebrated in towns and villages and October sees the festes del most (grape juice festivals) in l’Arboçar and Les Gunyoles. At Christmas you can see the living Nativity Scene at Les Gunyoles (www.pessebre.net).

A walk through a unique setting of vineyards and olive groves, for a first hand learning experience of the latest research work on the cradle of vine growing and wine making in the Penedes, where one of the archaeologists of the research team of Font de la Canya conducts a guided visit to the origins of viniculture.
