Come learn about the different characters of several of Nashville's
Greenways: which ones are best for different types of photography such as
landscapes, flowers, sunrise, sunset, and wildlife. Richard will show
examples of images he’s taken and then show on the map where it was
taken to encourage photographers and non photographers to explore beyond
their local Greenways to enjoy this natural treasure to its utmost.

Cornelia Fort Trailhead
Come join us with our friends at the Barnard-Seyfert Astronomical
Society for a summer evening of star gazing at the Cornelia Fort
Trailhead of Shelby Bottoms. May be cancelled due to cloudy
conditions or inclement weather. Check social media or call SBNC.
As temperatures oscillate (cool, then nearly record heat,
now cool again...) and we adjust, we look forward to the
sights, sounds, and smells summer brings regardless of
weather. The return of our resident summer breeding
birds brings splashes of color and a familiar soundtrack
to the Bottoms: the dazzling blue Indigo Bunting, the
“chatty” Yellow-breasted Chat, the “witchity-witchity-
witchity” song of the Common Yellowthroat, and the “pick-a-tuck” song of the brilliant
crimson Summer Tanager. Adding to the soundscape—especially evening—are the vocal
insects and amphibians: cicadas, crickets, and katydids; Green, Bull, and Green tree
frogs. Blossoms of all shades bring washes of color across the otherwise lush green
landscape: trumpet creeper, cardinal flower, tickseed sunflower, Passionflower, and
Shelby’s iconic ironweed and goldenrod. Finally—cookouts in the park, summer storms,
freshly-cut grass, and meadows of flowers add to the olfactory experience of summer in
Shelby. Yeah, okay, there’s the heat... and ticks too... But there’s so much positive to
experience here this summer—including a once-in-a-lifetime total eclipse of the sun! So
come join us for a program. Revisit often. And experience summer in Shelby!
To register call 615/862-8539, email [email protected], or sign up online. Programs could be cancelled due to inclement weather or low participation.
