A mild summer has given way to the first clues that
fall is soon to arrive. We were offered an early taste of
it: cooler nights and lower humidity (until Hurricane
Harvey, that is) which many relished in the atypical
month of August. We’ll sure take it! But soon it will
settle in...and we'll celebrate it.
It is the busiest season for most parks and nature
centers, with Shelby Bottoms being no exception.
We have attempted to offer you, our guests, a variety
of programs for the Autumn season. From art shows
to bike rides; night hikes to volunteer days; astrology workshops to wilderness first aid
workshops; and from coffee socials to pumpkin carving picking parties, we have a lot
planned for the season. Check out the lineup and sign up...for one or many.
We have a few holiday closures included in the list and there are several permitted races
on Saturday mornings which will necessitate road closures until 9 am, as follows:
September 9, 16, 23, 30, October 7, 21, 28, and November 11 and 18th until 1 pm.
Happy Fall! We hope to see you here!

It’s the time of year we look forward to: a long weekend off work or school,
the beginning of the holiday season, and to simply eat and be merry. But
Thanksgiving began as a harvest celebration and continues today to be a
day in which we give thanks for what has been provided to us. So ahead of
this long weekend, let’s do exactly that. Let’s hike and share the things for
which we are grateful: in our lives, from nature, in the world, and whatever
else is on our minds.
