Wealllongfortrustworthyleadership,whetherinourfamilies,inourworkplaces,orinthecommunitiestowhichwebelong;leadershipwhereweknowthatapersonisthesameontheinsideastheyareontheoutside.Inourquesttocreategreatleaderswehavebecomeskilledatrecognisingtheexternalcontours,thedesignandthemoldofleadership.Yetinsodoing,weonlyseeleadershipinoutline.Givingfullshapeandmeaningtoleadershipnecessitatesaninwardjourneywherewecanencounterthebordersandcrossingsthatbringwholenessandheartfulnesstousall.InthisCouragetoLeadretreatweinviteyoutojoinwithotherstocontemplateandreflectonthemetaphorsofferedby'ShapesofLeadership',andtorenewandreconnectwiththeinnerpassion,courageandsenseofpurposethatcallsusforwardandgivesmeaningtoourleadershipintheworld.Inretreat,throughconversation,creativeprocess,anddeeplisteningweholdspaceforeachotherto(re)discovertheessenceofwhatguidesandsustainsusinourlifeandwork.

ThisretreatisbasedontheworkofParkerPalmerandtheU.S.-basedCenterforCourage&Renewalprogrammes.Thisapproachto‘personalformation’andprofessionaldevelopmentisfoundedonthebeliefthatgoodleadership,inthewidestsense,-theabilitytogenuinelybeofserviceincommunitiesandworkplaces,-flowsfromtheidentityandintegrityoftheindividual.Theretreatprocessinvitesparticipantstoreclaimwholenessofselfandclarityofvocationwhilemakingconnectionsbetweentherenewalofone’sspiritandtherevitalizationofthecommunitiesandworkplacesofwhichwearepart.

HillCottageRetreatCentreissituatedintheMarchesofmid-Wales,nearKnighton,justintoWales,inPowys.Theownershavecreatedatranquilretreatspaceforreflection,creativityandinteractionwithothersandtheenvironmentinmutuallybeneficialways.Thecentrewelcomespeoplefromawiderangeofphilosophicalandprofessionalperspectivesforworkshops,coursesandretreats.Setintenacresofland,thecentreincludesanindependentmarketgarden,youngorchardandwoodland,anaturalswimmingpond,gardensforcontemplation,andwildflowerpasturesborderedbyameanderingbrook.TheCentreisrunonprinciplesofsustainabilityandmutuality.Largegroupandovernightaccommodationhasbeencreatedinanumberofcarefullydesignedbarns.Thereisarangeofsingleandshared(twin)accommodationandthereisalsoasmallnumberofsleepingspacesavailableintraditionalstyle‘croglofts’.Theloftroomsarecomfortableandspaciousroomsbuiltintothebarnroofs.Toiletandshowerfacilitiesaresharedandtherearealsokitchenandsittingroomareas.Deliciousvegetarianmealsarepreparedonsiteusingfreshlocalingredients.
