College Essay Workshop

With the college application process being so competitive and scholarship dollars so critical, a well written essay

gives our students another opportunity to stand out from other applicants. A well written, thoughtful essay takes time

to plan and write. First semester senior year is a busy time. Why not take some of the pressure off yourself next fall by

writing your college entrance/scholarship essays this summer? Our English Department is offering a series of week-

long workshops on college essay writing. Each workshop will meet 5 days for 2 hours and will produce 2

college/scholarship essays. The workshop will include a guest speaker from a local college to talk about what

colleges are looking for in essays and how to make yours stand out. Tuition will be $100/student. Space in each

session is limited to 12 students. Sessions are subject to cancellation based upon enrollment. Please include the

registration slip (available in the Main Office) along with your payment. If you have any questions about the program, please contact Ms. Maloney at 834-2101 ext. 353.

Session I July 12-16, 4 - 6 pm with Eileen Maloney

Session II August 2-6, 6:30 - 8:30 pm with Karen Szalach

Session III August 16-20, 9 - 11 am with Peter Liberti

Let’s EAT Lunch together for a Cause!

The Emergency Assistance for Tuition (EAT) Luncheon will be held at Sacred Heart Academy on Friday, July 23, 2010

from 12 noon - 2 p.m. All proceeds from the EAT luncheon and golf outing fund the (E)mergency (A)ssistance for

(T)uition Fund. This fund was established to assist our young women, presently attending the Academy, who are

experiencing financial difficulties with tuition due to parental job loss, illness, or an unforeseen emergency.

You really CAN make a difference to a young girl and a fellow family here at SHA. We don’t know who will be

touched by your kindness, but we do know that she will be forever blessed by the Academy. Though she may

never meet you, she’ll remember a group of women who cared enough to “EAT together!”

Please mark your calendar and plan for a great time! The day will begin at 8:00 a.m. for women who want to play

either 9 or 18 holes of golf. Tee times can be arranged based on players’ schedules. Singles or groups of four are

welcome. Please register by calling the Alumnae Office at 834-2101, ext. 317.

Remember, it’s not about golf. It’s not about lunch either. It’s about reaching out to a fellow family that will face

an unfortunate and unforeseen circumstance next year that will threaten a young girl’s hope to complete her high

school education at Sacred Heart Academy.
