• The goal of this club is to have participants complete a 5K run in just nine weeks!

• The club will meet on THURSDAYS from 3:00-3:45 pm. Please change in the

locker room and meet in the cafeteria.

• In order to successfully complete the 5K, the program requires that you work out TWO additional days during the week. This must be done on your own at home, but you can easily recruit a parent, sibling, or a friend to be a partner.

• Please wear running shoes and clothes appropriate for the weather. Always bring

a sweatshirt in case it cools down.

• Please bring a water bottle.

• Do NOT eat a snack after school; this could be a negative effect on your running.

• The club will begin Thursday, April 10, and meet on Thursdays through June 5. We will run a 5K race on Saturday, June 14, at Hoyt Lake in Buffalo. (Susan Komen Race for the Cure 5K).

I am really excited to bring this club to SHA and look forward to working with all of you!

Counseling Center:

Junior Seminar:

As part of your daughter’s seminar class, Mrs. Bund and Ms. Szegda have been meeting with Juniors

weekly for the third quarter. We have been utilizing the Naviance Family Connection program to

promote college and career readiness. Students have completed an activities resume, career interest

profiler, a Do What You Are personality type assessment, and have begun their preliminary College

Search. These assessments will help students explore career and majors to determine appropriate

options.

Activities Resume: Your daughter has created her resume in Family Connection. She should

review and revise the resume from year-to-year as accomplishments, interests, and activities

change. We have encouraged Juniors to provide a copy of their resume to the teachers they ask

for college letters of recommendation. As you work with your daughter, consider the following:

-Find out what activities she enjoys most. Are there ways to involve your daughter in the

activities either in school or in the community?

- Determine if your daughter is focused on a lot of activities or a few activities. Helping your

daughter focus on a few key activities she enjoys can help in creating a well-balanced resume

with academic and extracurricular activities.

-Help your daughter decide what activities or interest she wants to continue in college. This can

help identify scholarships and other programs that may support that goal.

My Game Plan: this component helps to focus the student’s college search by asking a series of

questions that she may not have yet considered about college. Knowing more about oneself will

help her find schools which fit her criteria.

Career Interest Profiler: The Career Interest Profiler is an assessment that allows students to

complete an inventory which analyzes their specific interests and pairs the results with potential

career matches. Students are able to research and explore different career fields in great detail.

Personality Assessment: The Personality Type function allows students to complete a survey

called, “Do What You Are” that determines the way they naturally prefer to see the world and

make decisions. By understanding the role Personality Type plays, students can gain important

insights into their educational, career, and relationship needs.

College Search: Students have utilized the SuperMatch college search tool in Family Connection

to begin a preliminary college search. This is an advanced search tool that enables students to

create searches that focus on college criteria that is important to them, such as costs, campus

surroundings, available majors, etc. This will help them find colleges that are the right fit for

them.

Please contact your daughter’s Counselor to discuss any concerns you may have.
