Setu Senior School
Volume 16 August—December 2016
Independence Day was celebrated in a colourful ceremony. Songs, dances, speeches
and poetry filled every heart with patriotic fervour.
Bhaiyas who have been learning English
from educators and Shishyans recited a
poem in English on love for the mother-
land.

The song presented by the school choir was a treat for the ears!
The Tricolour unfurled.
American students, who were a part of the NSLI-Y
programme, presented a colourful dance performance
along with Shishyans.

Evolving Perceptions of a Dynamic World
The second iteration of Shishukunj MUN, based on the theme 'Evolving Perceptions of a
Dynamic World' brought together over 250 students from 06 schools across the city.
As delegates to the General Assembly, NATO, UNESCO, WTO, Modi’s Cabinet, etc. the
participants discussed and debated myriad issues of national and global concern.

Teachers’ Day was cele-
brated with great zeal by
way of a short but inter-
esting show staged by the
students of Class XII. The
teachers came dressed in
a retro theme and enjoyed the day
while the senior students got a taste
of a day in a teacher’s life as they
took classes in place of the teachers.
A leading Music Group of the city en-
thralled the teachers in the evening with a
musical programme followed by dinner
hosted by the school management.

Shishyans proudly walked on stage to receive certificates for excellence in academics
and sports, during the academic sessions 2014 - 15 as well as 2015 - 16. Students who
had 100 per cent attendance were also awarded certificates.

The school ground transformed into a games and food gala as Shishyans frolicked in
Utsav 2016 - the Annual Fun Fair organised by the Senior school teachers to celebrate
Children’s Day.
In the fourth annual Alumni Meet, 150 alumni of the school got together to meet the
teachers and each other to walk down the memory lane and refresh the memories of the
good old times spent at Shishukunj.

Students of Class XII went on a four-day tour to camp
Junga in Himachal Pradesh. The school collaborated
with Youreka Outdoor Learning to craft a program for
the students which combined adventure and learning.
The students engaged in numerous adventure activities
and stayed in tents at the camp, surrounded by pine
forest trails in the scenic Shimla valley.

Battle of Words Inter School Mime Competition
Shishukunj hosted the Samagam Inter
School Mime Competition on the theme ‘My
World, My Responsibility’. Saving the Envi-
ronment, Saving the Girl Child and Saving
Water were the prominent themes taken up
by the 12 participating schools.
The Best Three Performances were put up
by: Advanced Academy, Vidya Bhavan Public
School and Holy Family Convent.
The competition was judged by eminent ar-
tistes Mr. Sharad Shabal, Mr. Adil Quereshi
and Mr. Jaideep Singh.
The 5th Shri Jugrajji Mehta English Word
Power Competition, which aims to empower
students with a good language and vocabu-
lary, saw a record participation of over 80
students of Classes VII and VIII from 40
schools of the city.
The students from Delhi Public School, Mst.
K. Gautham and Ms. Eeshta Saxena were par
excellence and answered each and every
question of the quiz correctly, thereby emerg-
ing the winners. At the second position stood
Indus World School Eastern Campus.

tion.

Shishyans Manvi Upadhyay and Jush Das-
sani of Class VIII participated in the All In-
dia Inter School English Debate Competi-
tion organized by the SDPS International
Girls School. This competition saw the par-
ticipation of 32 leading schools of the
country. The topic of the debate was 'Is the
Modern Education System capable of in-
culcating the Values among the Children'.
Maanvi stood Third in this very tough yet
lively competition.

Quiz, ensured very stiff competition for all

Sethia and Seshal Jain put up an impres-
sive performance and finished at the 3rd
Position.

Competition: The
State Level Inter School Debate Competi-
tion organized by Laurels International
School.
Participants were given the topic just an
hour before the commencement of the com-
petition. With the help of books, journals
and newspapers provided to them, they
were required to prepare the debate both
for and against the topic.
A delegation of 20 students from the school
participated in the MUN organized by the
Strawberry Fields High School in Chandi-
garh. Zubin Turakhia from Class VIII was
awarded a Verbal Mention.
Ridhansh Jain of Class VI E secured the
second position in the 21st International
Abacus and Mental Arithmetic and Listen-
ing Competition held in Dubai.
Shishyans once again excelled in the an-
nual CBSE Bal Vigyan Competition.

Science and Biology, adjudged among the
Best Three Projects
In Chemistry and Social Science, awarded
for the Best Presentation.
Shishynans were fortunate to witness a
performance by Sharon Lowen, renowned
O d i s s i d a n c e r , t r a i n e d u n -
der Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. She also
explained the nuances of this dance form
to the students.

Inter House Science Quiz was organised for Classes VI to XI to assess the scientific tem-
perament of Shishyans. The rounds were varied and included the Reasoning Round, the

Swimming
Lavanya Singh, VI E, won two Silver medals at
the Invitational Inter School Swimming Competi-
tion organized by The Pragya Girls School.
The Shishukunj International School Swimming
Team displayed their excellence once again at
the blue waters of the Hemkund pool at Shri
Basantilal Ji Sethia Memorial Inter School Swim-
ming Championship for Non medalist. Team
Shishukunj stood First on the Points Tally with
145 Points, First Runners Up were RPM Dolphin
Swimming Academy – Bhopal and The Daly
College Indore stood Second Runners Up with
105 Points.
The Girls Swimming team won the Sahodaya
Swimming Championship, organized by The
Queens’ College.
Advait Page won 5 Gold medals including 3 individ-
ual and 2 Team medals, Maria Malik 4 Gold Medal
and 1 Silver, Simran Dewani 2 Gold and 2 Silver,
and Paritosh Taose won 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2
Bronze Medals at the SGFI State level Aquatic Com-
petition held at Jabalpur.
Advait Page put up a brilliant performance in the CBSE National swimming Champion-
ship held in Bhopal. Advait won 5 Gold medals in the Boys U-17 group and created 3
New CBSE records in the 200 m backstroke, 200 m Individual Medley and 800 m Free-
style. In two other events - 400 m Freestyle and 100 m Backstroke he won a Gold medal.
In the 62nd National School Games, Swimming, organized at Rajkot, Gujrat, Advait Page
represented Madhya Pradesh in Boys Under 17 category. He participated in three events
and won Gold Medals in all three events.
He created a new National Record in 800
m freestyle.
Maria Malik participated in Girls Under-
14 category and won a Silver Medal.

Amishi Shukla, VI B, won the Tennis Championship “All India Talent
Series“ for Under-12 Girls category held at The Indore Tennis Club. She
also won the doubles under-16 Lawn Tennis Title in all India Talent Se-
ries Tournament.
In the Interschool CBSE Sahodaya Table
Tennis Competition organised by Prestige
Public School, in the Under 19 Girls category, Shravi Jain,
Ishita Gupta, Tanvi Shah and Vasudha Gupta secured the
Second Position. In Under 14 Boys category, Nabh Patodi,
Avneesh Agrawal, Nanil Patel and Atharv Tapadia were Se-
cond Runners up. In Under 14 Girls category, Janvi Nadkar,
Krati Jain, Viva Vaidya and Aishvee Jain were Second Run-
ner up.
In the CBSE cluster Table Tennis Tournament held at Delhi Public School, Jabalpur, in
the Under 14 Girls category, Janvi Nadkar, Viva Vaidya, Krati Jain and Peehu Mittal won
the Bronze Medal. In the Under-17 girls category, Shravi Jain, Ishita Gupta, Tanvi Shah
and Vasudha Gupta won a Bronze Medal. In the individual category, Janvi Nadkar won a
Silver Medal (U-14), Shravi Jain (U-17) and Nabh Patodi (U- 14) a Bronze medal each.
Janvi Nadkar, VI A, won the Table Tennis State Level Ranking Tournament held at Bina,
the Inter School Table Tennis tournament and SGFI State Level tournament. She was also
the Runners Up at the State Level Ranking tournament held at Bhopal, Inter School
CBSE Clusters (Individual), State level Open Tournament at Gwalior and District Level
Tournament at Mandsaur. She is
presently ranked No. 2 in MP for Ca-
det girls category. Janvi was part of
the Indore Division Table Tennis
Team, which became the State
Champions held at Gwalior.
Under-14 Boys and Under 14 Girls
Table Tennis teams became Runners Up at the State level Inter School tournament held
at Abhay Prashal, organized by the TTFI.

Sujata Porwal, Class XI, won a Gold Medal for the 300 mt race
and a Silver Medal for the 500 mt race at the CBSE West Zone
Skating Tournament held in Bhopal.
The School Badminton Team Under 14 Boys and Under 17 Girls were the Runners Up at
The SGFI Inter School Badminton Tournament.
Prachiti Suri, VIII A, Manvi Agrawal, VIII D, and Vanshika
Agrawal, IX G, were part of the Indore division Under-14 Girls
Basketball team which became the State SGFI Champion
Shishukunj Under-14 Girls Basketball Team A were declared the Champions at an Invi-
tational Inter-School Basketball Tournament organized by St. Raphaels’ School.
The Under-14 Girls B Team were Second Runners Up. The Under – 19 Basketball Team
won a Bronze medal at the Sahodaya Inter School Tournament organized by the Bha-
van’s Prominent School.
