ALERT

SERVICE BULLETIN

S.B. N°139-580 ALERT DATE: March 19, 2019 Page 2 of 10 REVISION: /

1. PLANNING INFORMATION

A. EFFECTIVITY

FIPS TR blades P/N 4G6410A00131, P/N 4G6410A00132 and P/N 4G6410A00133,

installed on AW139 helicopters or kept in stock and with accrued FH.

B. COMPLIANCE

• Within fifty (50) FH from the issue date of this Service Bulletin, for FIPS TR blades

installed on AW139 helicopters.

• Before next installation on the helicopter for FIPS TR blades kept in stock and with

accrued FH.

C. CONCURRENT REQUIREMENTS

N.A.

D. REASON

This Service Bulletin is issued in order to require the inspection of the FIPS TR blades.

E. DESCRIPTION

Following some events of short circuit occurred on the TR blades with heater mat, this

Service Bulletin requires a detailed inspection of the TR blades P/N 4G6410A00131,

P/N 4G6410A00132 and P/N 4G6410A00133 for burn signs and, depending on

findings, the replacement of the part.

This one-off inspection is applicable to the TR blades in service, in order to exclude

not detected arcing damages that may have been caused by a short circuit during

FIPS operations. Moreover, as a further precautionary measure, the inspection is

extended to the parts kept in stock and with accrued FH, with close attention to

possible TR blades stored with the blade root fairing installed.

In addition to this, a conditional inspection has been introduced in AW139 AMPI

Chapter 5 prescribing a detailed inspection of the TR blade in case TAIL ROTOR FAIL

caution is displayed.

Bulletin.

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS

GENERAL NOTES

a) Place an identification tag on all components that

are re-usable, including the attaching hardware that

has been removed to gain access to the

modification area and adequately protect them until

their later re-use.

b) Shape the cables in order to prevent interference

with the structure and the other existing

installations, using, where necessary, suitable

lacing cords.

NOTE

Skip steps 1 and 2 if the TR blade to be inspected is

kept in stock.

1. In accordance with AMP DM 39-A-00-20-00-00A-120A-A, prepare the helicopter on

ground for a safe maintenance. Disconnect the battery, all electrical power sources

and/or the external power supply.

2. Put the Platform (GG-02-00), or an approved alternative, adjacent to the right side of the

fuselage.

NOTE

Perform following step 3 on TR blade kept in stock if

the TR blade has been stored with the blade root

fairing installed.

3. In accordance with AMP DM 39-B-64-11-06-00A-520A-A remove the blade root fairing

from the first TR blade that you must examine.

CAUTION

Do not remove the soldered terminals and Raychem

S1125 adhesive, if present. Soldered terminals and

Raychem S1125 adhesive removal is not required to

perform the inspection.

4. With reference to Figure 1, do a visual inspection of the area below the removed root

fairing for conditions and burn evidence. Use the light source to get an aid during the

inspection.

S.B. N°139-580 ALERT DATE: March 19, 2019 Page 8 of 10 REVISION: /

NOTE

Skip steps 5 thru 9 if the TR blade inspected is kept in

stock.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to inspect all the TR blades.

6. If you find burn evidence, replace the TR blade/blades as described in the following

procedure:

CAUTION

TR blades P/N 4G6410A00133 are interchangeable

and intermixable with TR blades P/N 4G6410A00132.

TR blades P/N 4G6410A00133 are interchangeable

and NOT intermixable with TR blades P/N

4G6410A00131. To replace a TR blade P/N

4G6410A00131 with P/N 4G6410A00133, the

replacement is required in two positions on opposite

blades (opposite blades must be intended blue and

red, yellow and white).

6.1 In accordance with AMP DM 39-B-64-11-01-00A-520A-A remove the affected TR

blade/blades.

TR blade/blades.

CAUTION

Before connecting the slip ring connector to the heating

mat connector, when you install the blade root fairing,

apply Dow Corning (C315) on the connectors (both on

plug and on receptacle) with a paint brush. Make sure

to make a film on inner and outer parts of the

connectors. Clean excess of compound with a soft

cloth (C011).

7. In accordance with AMP DM 39-B-64-11-06-00A-720A-A install the blade root fairing on

the serviceable TR blade/blades.
