One of Australia’s truly great rarities, the 1922/21 Threepence Overdate is an immensely important coin. A landmark opportunity for our clients, we can now present Australia’s most desirable overdate type in better-than-usually-seen Very Good to about Fine condition!

There is much debate as to why, and how, the Melbourne Mint modified one of its 1921 working dies for use in 1922 – in part because it is known that fresh 1922 dies had been received from the Royal Mint. The most plausible explanation is that, in a bid to extend the lifetime of a perfectly good but obsolete die, one of the 1921 dies had a ‘2’ punched into the date. While its creation may be the subject of controversy, there’s no argument about the significance of the 1922/21 Threepence Overdate.

Known by no more than 900 examples, this coin is a rarity of the highest order, and a key to the entire 1910-64 Australian Commonwealth Series. Highly sought after regardless of the condition, and usually found graded at Very Good or below, the 1922/21 Threepence Overdate creates fierce competition when offered in better grade – as here.

It has been many years since we have offered this highly desirable Overdate type in Very Good to about Fine in Money – do not miss this opportunity!

Immensely rare overdate type…

High grade, low price Among the last dates of the Australian 1910-64 Silver Threepence Series, and much better than usually seen, these lustrous beauties literally shine with quality.

Featuring the 1961 and 1962 dates, united with the last ever Australian threepence, dated 1964, these coins are among the finest Queen Elizabeth II threepences we have ever offered. Struck at the Melbourne branch of the Royal Mint, and officially graded by PCGS at MS65, each coin is defined by sharp detail and great eye-appeal.

A great Australian rarity, the 1923 Halfpenny is the key to the 1911-64 Halfpenny Series – and one of the most esteemed predecimal coins, across all denominations.

Although records indicate that 1.113m halfpennies were struck in 1923, the actual mintage of the 1923 Halfpenny is believed to be approximately 15,000 – a situation most likely explained by faulty halfpenny dies used in 1923. The Melbourne Mint had three sets of dies available – one was rejected outright, and the other two were faulty. A vast percentage of 1923 Halfpennies bear die-cracks, and it is likely that the dies were used to strike only a limited number of coins to fulfil a Commonwealth Government order.

With the number in existence well below the tiny figure of 15,000, this important coin is scarce to rare across all grades. Missing from most collections as a result, the 1923 Halfpenny is, however, still within the reach of passionate predecimal collectors, and those keen to broaden their investment portfolios. Whatever your motivation, any chance to secure this celebrated Australian copper rarity must be grasped with both hands.

We have five examples of the 1923 Halfpenny available – graded Fine.

The rare 1923 Halfpenny…

Outstanding qualityWith the quality of copper coins notoriously difficult to maintain over time, it is rare that we see examples of Australia’s iconic predecimal penny and halfpenny in the spectacular state of preservation presented here.

In gorgeous MS63RD (Mint State 63 Red), this terrific trio is headlined by the Melbourne Mint’s 1956 date – known as ‘the Olympic Penny’. Australia’s last penny, struck at the Melbourne Mint in 1964, is presented in glorious MS65, whilst the Perth Mint’s 1962 Halfpenny is a must-have for the predecimal collector when found in MS65.

Hottest 100! The COMPLETE 100-Coin 1985-98 Maklouf Portrait Series!

IMPOSSIBLE TO ASSEMBLE FROM CIRCULATION!Uniting a range of commemoratives with a huge number of not-issued-for-circulation dates, the complete 1985-98 20c & 50c Series is impossible to assemble from circulation.

The Maklouf Portrait period saw an

increasing number of commemoratives issued, with SIX 20c & 50c types struck from 1985 to 1998. Hoarded away, these coins are seldom seen in change in any grade – let alone in Unc. More importantly, this series comprised many dates that were not issued

for circulation. Of the 14-coin 50c issue, the 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990 & 1992 50c cannot be found in change! Likewise, NINE of the fifteen 1985-98 20c dates are found only in RAM sets – 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 & 1995!

Utterly complete, this set features every 1985-98 20c and 50c in strictly Uncirculated condition!

1985-98 1c & 2c COIN COLLECTION UNC

THE GRAND FINALE OF AUSSIE COPPER...2c dates issued from 1985 to 1991. Highlighted by the first Maklouf portrait issue of each denomination, the set also comprises SIX dates that were not issued for circulation! Key, low-mintage types, the 1986 & 1991 1c, and 1986, 1987, 1990 & 1991 2c coins are found only in Royal Australian Mint sets!

An outstanding opportunity, the 14-coin 1985-91 1c & 2c Maklouf Portrait Collection is underpinned by sensational value and Unc quality.

Among the briefest Australian coin types, the 1985-91 1c & 2c Maklouf Portrait Series represents the grand finale of copper coinage in Australia.

From the time of the 1797 Cartwheel Penny to the 1c and 2c of the decimal

period, copper coins circulated in Australia for nearly 200 years. Overwhelmed by inflation and the cost of production, however, Australia’s lowest decimal denominations were axed in the 1990s. Struck from 1985

to 1991, Australia’s last 1c and 2c types both carried the Raphael Maklouf portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Utterly comprehensive, this highly desirable Uncirculated collection comprises all seven 1c and seven

AN ASTONISHING ARRAY OF HIGHLIGHTS!Not-issued-for-circulation types; scarce circulation issues; one-year-only commemoratives – the 1985-98 $1 & $2 Maklouf Series has so many highlights, it’s tough to know where to start!

Comprehensive, this set comprises all eighteen $1 and all eleven $2 dates issued from 1985 to 1998. All Maklouf Roos $1 coins are scarce in Unc, but none more so than the 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991 dates – found only

in RAM sets! Of the ten 1985-98 $1 commemoratives, FIVE were not issued for circulation, and with few set aside at issue, early $2 dates are also tough-to-find in Unc – with the 1991 $2 not issued for circulation!

AUSTRALIA’S SCARCEST DECIMAL PORTRAIT SERIES...Featuring an array of not-issued-for-circulation types, this set is just as crucial for the presence of every standard 1985-98 5c and 10c. As with every Maklouf set, the 1985-98 5c & 10c Series is defined by the lowest mintages of the decimal period.

The scarcity of Maklouf 5c and 10c dates is also due to the fact that non-commemoratives are often ignored. Seldom set aside at issue, 1985-98 5c and 10c dates are naturally tough-to-find in Unc, as here.

Featuring all fourteen 5c and all fourteen

10c dates struck from 1985 until 1998, this set is also desirable for the dates that were not issued for circulation. With the 1985 & 1986 5c, and 1986, 1987, 1995 & 1996 10c found only in RAM sets, this is your chance to fill those gaps in your collection!

The rare Gothic $20 typeA very short-lived issue, distinguished by the Gothic typeface of the serial numbers, the 1985 $20 Johnston/Fraser is the second rarest issue in the decimal $20 series.

Behind only the 1968 $20 Coombs/Randall in terms of rarity, the 1985 $20 Johnston/Fraser Gothic Serials was one of two types issued during this signature combination. The change to Gothic typeface took place late in the 4-year signature combination, with OCR-B serials used for a vast majority of Johnston/Fraser $20 notes.

Intended to increase banknote production efficiency, this essentially mundane modification has great significance to collectors. With few 1985 $20 Johnston/Fraser Gothic Serials set aside from the small number printed, this key Australian note type is very tough-to-find in Unc quality – as here!

Australia’s first $20 issue!Australia’s first $20 note was unveiled on the 4th of February 1966, with the first issue carrying the signature combination of Coombs/Wilson.

As the highest decimal denomination at the time of release, this crucial Australian currency issue was far too valuable for most to casually set aside as a keepsake. As a result, the 1966 $20 Coombs/Wilson is scarce in premium grade – as here.

A timely acquisition as we prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of decimalisation next year, we have this key type in near flawless about Uncirculated condition! A fantastic opportunity, this key type is surprisingly affordable at under $100.

Our rarest decimal note…Issued for a matter of weeks, from mid September until October 1968, the Coombs/Randall $20 is Australia’s rarest issued decimal note.

The introduction of decimal currency naturally ensured a significant amount of notes were produced during the Coombs/Wilson signature combination, and it stands to reason that much fewer notes would be issued under its successors. Indeed, less than 2% of all ‘Commonwealth of Australia’ (1966-73) notes were issued in the name of Coombs/Randall. The key to the decimal series, the number of $20 notes printed under Coombs/Randall was minuscule.

A rare opportunity, the two 1968 $20 Coombs/Randall notes in stock are in about Uncirculated quality.
