Dear parents and guardians, Welcome to our very first monthly magazine. After taking on board your comments about the frequency and type of information we communicated with you at the end of last year, we redesigned our communications slightly and so the monthly magazine was founded. I hope you all had a fantastic summer and are refreshed ready to enjoy the challenges that the 2020-21 academic year holds. It has been a summer of more improvements at The Quinta one of which is the opening of The Quinta Preschool.

Independence

First in Law As far as In-Laws go, getting a first beats them all! Over the summer, ex Quinta pupil Tom Griffin received his law degree results and received a first class honours. Well done Tom.

Opportunity

The summer reading challenge Thank you to everyone who took part in our summer reading challenge. The money raised will be spent on books for the classroom. The children who raised the most money will join Mr Sharpe for a book bonanza afternoon. There will be hot chocolate, books and each child will search online for five books for their class and one for them to take home. Congratulations to the following children: Elijah M (C7), Louis D (C11), Rex J (C4), Joseph P (C9), Lily B

(C10) As last year’s ‘Ninja’ winners didn’t get the chance to go to choose a book during lockdown they will also join the book bonanza. Congratulations to; Harrison B (C3), Amara S (C1), Leon D (C4), Kai J (C9) and Nya T (C10) Club Quinta Our before and after school club is now in its new home in our preschool area of school. The children have a wii, a movie room, construction zone, arts and craft, access to the school playing field as well as all the role play zones of preschool. The children have recently made their own chocolate bars which looked and smelt delicious.

Student Snitch -What’s been happening from the pupils’ perspective-

This month we have been beginning to recruit a new school council. Next month, they will unveil the team and share their views and aims for the year. The head boy and head girl have been chosen for the autumn term. Congratulations to Oscar and Sophie. We will bring you their reaction and input next month.

The Staffroom

- Teach your monster to read

- Spelling Shed

- Seesaw parent tips

This is a game that makes learning to read fun. It covers everything from letters and sounds to reading full sentences. It complements all synthetic phonics programmes used in schools. The computer version is 100% free and the app is occasionally free. Spelling Shed is a paid for app (£2.99) which makes spelling fun and covers all the spelling rules and patterns in the national curriculum. It is an easy way for your child to practise their spellings, Seesaw creates a triangle of communication between you as parents, the teacher, but also, your child. It does this all whilst showing how we can use technology in a safe, creative way.

There are two ways you can respond to your child’s post: like and comment. How often you do this is up to you. There will be times when it is appropriate to simply like a post to acknowledge to your child you have seen their work. Other times you may want to: Ask questions that challenge their learning. The children love to read the positive comments that you write.. If you have more than one child at school you will need to print out their class app codes. As you have to log out to access each child’s class.

Friends of Quinta

We are looking for help! Our committee has gradually shrunk and we are now in need of new members. You don’t have to commit to anything yet but we can let you know the kinds of roles, time commitments and ways that you can support the parent teacher association. We would just love a name and contact email so we can get in touch if you can help us out at all. Share the word, join the team (become the team!) and help work with us to raise funds and bring together our community spirit. Please click and leave your info if you would like more information.
