Comic Con Africa is the must-attend pop culture festival of the year! We focus on all elements of pop culture, including cosplay, comic books, anime, manga, film and series, video and tabletop games, esports, LARP, and books. The festival invites international and local celebrities and comic creators to participate in panels, Q&As, live draw sessions, autograph and photograph opportunities, and fan interaction over four epic days. We attract well-known industry professionals and exciting exhibitors. In 2019 KidsCon joined Comic Con Africa. It’s the most fun a kid can have in one hall and a perfect family day out with loads of activities to enjoy. Comic Con Africa is the biggest pop culture festival in South Africa and attracts tens of thousands of fans annually.

Project Springbok showcased local gaming developers and provided a platform for them to introduce their locally-developed games to hordes of visitors. Cosplay workshops shared skills and top tips with local cosplayers and the Casual Cosplay Competition encouraged new-bies to take the leap to becoming Championship contestants.

LOCALDEVELOPMENT

Participate in our international Championships of Cosplay and stand a chance to represent South Africa at Chicago’s C2E2 in the Global Quest for

the Crown and a huge R170,000 prize pool – the largest in the country. South Africa’s standard of

Cosplay is incredibly high and last year’s winner came second in the world!

Telkom’s VS Gaming Masters Tournament was held in the gaming hall on a specially designed stage

with 10 teams competing for a R1,3million prize pool – the largest esports prize pool in South

Africa. Expert players showed off their skills in CS:GO and Dota2 to ecstatic fans in this thrilling

arena. In the freeplay zones, gamers could test the latest AAA titles on cutting edge equipment – a

super special opportunity for home gamers.

The largest Artist Alley in South Africa with over 121 exhibiting artists and creatives, this

is the backbone of any Comic Con.

Troy Baker

Troy Baker has become one of the most prolific actors in video games. His performances as Joel in the Game of the Year The Last of Us and Booker DeWitt in Bioshock Infinite has solidified him as an icon in gaming today. Troy has been nominated three times for Best Performer at the BAFTA's for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. He is the only actor to have voiced both Batman and The Joker in the same film.

William Shatner

Emmy Award winner, actor, author, producer, director, and singer William Shatner appeared at Comic Con Africa in September 2019. Shatner became a cultural icon for his portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise in the Star Trek franchise. He wowed audiences with tales and experiences from his long and illustrious career in showbiz, music, and entertainment.

Daniel Gillies

Daniel Gillies is a Canadian-born New Zealand actor. He is best known for his role as Elijah Mikaelson on the television series The Vampire Diaries and its spin-off The Originals, as well as Dr. Joel Goran on the Canadian series Saving Hope, a medical themed show with a mystical, paranormal twist.

Nolan North

Nolan North is both an actor and a voice actor and is known for characters such as Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series, Desmond Miles from the Assassin's Creed series, Meepo the Geomancer in Dota2 and Captain Martin Walker in Spec Ops: The Line. North has also voiced Superboy, Superman, and other characters for the Young Justice animated television series as well as the title character from Blaze and the Monster Machines on Nick Jr.

Children enjoyed engaging with different interactive areas. The BIC Artist Corner sparked creative flair, then imaginations ran wild as they

created new worlds while immersed in the Play Doh Creations space. The little visitors showed off their blasting skills in the Hasbro Nerf

Zone, and experienced the Nerf Fornite blaster range. Other gaming treats included meeting characters like Mario Karts' Mario and Luigi and

My Little Pony

As the first and entirely kid-focused convention in Africa, KidsCon is taking the term “fun and games” to the next level by empowering kids to

be expressive and embracing their individuality.

From Comic Con Africa comes KidsCon the most exciting family friendly, kids-oriented convention. With a slight Comic Con twist of fun and

games, parents can gear up to spend some interactive playtime with their kids. KidsCon, the ultimate family day out, is taking the term ‘fun

and games’ to the next level. The interactive four-day convention is geared to celebrating and inspiring all kids to embrace the superhero

within and to cosplay along with those who are older, but still kids at heart. There’s so much to see, do and interact with, you won’t want to

leave.

KIDSCONIn 2019 KidsCon was launched. Co-located with Comic Con Africa, the KidsCon hall was home to Africa’s largest ever LEGO® activation and special guests like the My Little Ponies, and Mario and Luigi. Nintendo freeplay zones and loads of toy specials, fashion shows, Nerf, and Arrowtag kept parents and kids alike busy along with over 50 kid focussed exhibitors. Packed with creative play, learning, toys, and games and hosted by the Little Board of Experts, arriving at KidsCon was easy… but leaving was very, very hard!

SOCIAL MEDIARegular posts kept our followers engaged. A comprehensive campaign was launched with a dedicated team on site at the event.

TVViacom, our television media partner, played over 600 commercials over almost a month. WWE and Dstv played extensive spots in the final two weeks before the event.

Comic Con Africa has only been around for two years in the country but the fanfair around it knows no bounds. The last four days were a full

on geek fest and comic explosion for lovers of all things animation, anime, gaming, toys and more. From the cosplay outfits to the professional

esports teams, the whole expo was a high energy experience for all.

If Comic Con Africa’s debut at Kyalami was a sign of the potential that this event had to cement itself as the best celebration of comic book,

toys and gaming culture on the continent, then the sequel was that idea dialled up to 11. Focus. That’s the keyword here for Comic Con Africa

in 2019, a show which improved in leaps and bounds over its maiden voyage through Kyalami.. I think Comic Con Africa is definitely going to

become my new favourite destination for a quick annual working holiday. Friends, comic books and cosplay. What more could you ask for in

life?

Geekgasms abounded at Comic Con Africa with tech freaks, tabletop gamers, cosplayers, autograph hunters and action figure collectors

from across the country making the pilgrimage to Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand this past weekend. And despite massive queues to

get in, the second instalment of Comic Con Africa was a huge success. Actor William Shatner (Captain Kirk in ‘Star Trek’) enthralled the

crowd. Comic Con offered loads of fun, most notably in the quality of the cosplay. Even the amateurs went all out this year, with costumes in

jaw-dropping detail.

Exhibitors can reach a new audience in the African continent.

The reach we expected was attained.

The service and organization were excellent and made the fair a veryenjoyable and successful experience for us.

From start to finish, including pre-planning and breakdown, everything was planned meticulously.

The opportunity given, position placed and professionalism used was absolutely an amazing experience for us. We would gladly love be a part of Comic Con Africa 2020.

It's a decent crowd for a company with the right products. It's a focused crowd, and very child friendly. Comic Con was great fun and KidsCon was equally so, and perfect for what we do. Fun for both exhibitors and attendees.

Organisation this year was amazing! Halls nicely set out and easy for guests to follow.
