EVENT BROCHURE |AFRICA OIL & POWER

Senegal will host the first-ever Senegal Oil & Power Conference & Exhibition, taking place

May 27-28, 2020 in Dakar, Senegal. Organized by Africa Oil & Power and supported by the Government

of Senegal, Cos-Petrogaz, Petrosen and Sénélec, the conference heralds a new era of investment in one of West Africa’s leading business destinations, on the back of world-class offshore oil and gas discoveries and several dynamic energy projects that have been put in motion.

Senegal Oil & Power 2020 will be the leading platform to showcase Senegal’s tremendous achievements in the energy industry. The country has had eight major oil and gas discoveries since 2014, attracting major operators like BP, Total, Kosmos Energy, Woodside, Cairn Energy and FAR Ltd. Last year, BP reached a final investment decision on its first LNG project, Grand Tortue Ahmeyim.

The promise of significant gas revenues also prompted the implementation of a global gas-to-power framework aiming to fuel Senegal’s growing demand for energy, as well as opportunities for exports. A lower electricity price will boost the competitiveness of the local industry and provide greater opportunities for consumers. Senegal Oil & Power 2020 will also highlight the growing importance of technology in the energy industry. Thanks to its young population and governmental commitment to developing a high-level technological readiness, the growth of energy and technology are inextricably connected.

CONFIRMED HYDROCARBONS PROVINCEEight oil and gas discoveries since 2014 have propelled Senegal into the realm of confirmed hydrocarbons provinces. As the eco-nomic leader of the relatively unexplored MSGBC basin, Senegal seeks to unveil the formidable potential of its natural resources.

AN ATTRACTIVE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENTThe government wishes to build on discoveries and attract more exploration and production companies. Furthermore, Senegal aims to keep control over its natural resources and ensure gener-ated revenues benefit local citizens in the long term.

POWER: A KEY DRIVER OF ECONOMIC GROWTHAs part of the country’s Emerging Senegal Plan (PSE), Senegal aims to obtain sufficient energy sources while reaching a triple objective that includes providing universal access to electricity by 2025; increasing its competitiveness by supplying affordable power to local companies and protecting the environment with cleaner energy.

LOCAL CAPABILITIES AT THE CENTRE OF THE EQUATIONSkills transfer, strengthening local capabilities and rewarding lo-cal companies are key pillars to Senegal’s energy sector devel-opment.
