The FUTUREWISE curriculum is a structured off-the-shelf programme with optional careers guidancesupport. It is made up of distinct modules that are designed to enhance the school curriculum andultimately, enable students to make successful decisions about their future. Each module uses a mix oflesson plans with multimedia content and interactive workshops as part of a three step programme.

A careers and higher education curriculum for Y7–Y10 (P7–S3)

Recommended for Y6–Y7 (P7)

Ideal for students as they transition to secondaryschool, thinking ahead will help students explore thevalue of different curriculum subjects and build theirunderstanding of the education system throughvarious interactive workshops.

Students will be asked to imagine an Alien haslanded on Earth where they have to explain why wego to school and why do we study all these differentsubjects.

Learning outcomes

• Develop an awareness of the value of subjects inrelation to skills and knowledge beyond school.

• Enable students to understand the educationalprocess and the choices they have.

• Be able to articulate and provide evidence of thekey skills learned through school subjects.

Recommended for Y7–Y8 (P7–S1)

Self awareness will introduce students to theconcept of job families. Students will imagine theyhave been stranded on a deserted island – firstidentifying the key jobs they need to survive andexploring how these roles would evolve to build afunctioning society.

The activities completed throughout the programmewill help students develop their self-awareness,explore careers and challenge job stereotypes.

• Begin to explore the range of potential careeroptions available and different types of jobs.

• Consider changing patterns and the evolution ofcareers.

• Begin to explore individual strengths, skills,interests and the link to potential careers.

WORKSHOPThis is an extended sessionis composed up of individualand group hands-onactivities to explore thecurriculum topic in detail.

REFLECTIONThis interactive session will recap on what studentshave learned throughout the process.

Exploration is designed to help students makeinformed subject choices through a combination ofinteractive activities and the online careerInvestigator profile. Students will learn to understandthat the subject choices they make at school willstart to shape their career choices for the future.

Students will explore the wide number of careersassociated with the sports industry and debate thelinks between subject choices, skills and careers.

Learning outcomes

• Develop an awareness of the wide range ofcareers that exist within a single industry.

• Promote the links between the curriculumsubjects and different sporting based careers.

• Enable students to begin to reflect on their careerpersonalities and key areas of focus whenmaking subject choices.

Recommended for Y9–Y10 (S2–S3)

This programme is an ideal tool to introduce theimportance of employability skills. Students willdefine the meaning and purpose of the tenemployability skills that employers demand.

Through practical activities, based on a superheroscenario, students will have a better understandingof their abilities by exercising these key skills and theimportance of transferable skills.

Learning outcomes

• Understand that employers require skills that gobeyond qualifications and experience.

• Gain an awareness of the importance oftransferable skills from past and presentexperiences.

• Enable students to reflect on how they candemonstrate employability skills.

• Develop an action plan to develop these skillsfurther.
