“Outlook for Salmon Farming in Chile”

From 1970s to the early 1980s the projectof Releases and Returns were tried.
At that time Japanese government issued a technical cooperation by JICA.
Farming started from the late 1970s. Wooden cage was used. Farming technology was immature.
Production volume has increased remarkablyabout 700 times in 30 years(1985-2014), reaching to around 750,000t.

There are 1,359 concessions and about 350 sites are in operation now.

After the outbreak of ISA positivity lot in April 2013 the measures were strengthened at an early stage.Compulsive harvest, restriction of Smoltintroduction, and inspection etc. are imposedto the applicable cages and sites. Outbreak of ISA has been tried to be controlled and decreased by Authority & Industry.
Issues we have to solve bycollective effort of industry.

Percentage of Fish meal and oil in feed has fallen by price increase, lack of supply.In early 1990s Fish meal was about 50%, Fish Oil was 20% in feed composition.But now Fish meal has decreased to the level of 10-20%, Fish to 10%. Vegetable protein &oil has increased as an alternative.
