Daniel DAlonzoBorn into poverty, Daniel tried to pursue the American Dream by working hard, going to college, and getting a high paying job after graduation. You can imagine his disappointment as he approached graduation only to find out that his degree no longer had value in the workforce. Unable to return home after college, Daniel was forced to adapt. Within three months he founded his first social enterprise, and because of the strategic partnership he cultivated with the university they ended up investing in the project. A private new media lab, 10 undergraduates, valuable mentorship from nationally recognized and award winning educators, and the chance to secure his American Dream.

Marina DarlowAn industrial engineer by training, I spent a decade managing large-scale, multi-million dollar projects for hi-tech and manufacturing companies. I've managed teams, budgets, schedules, customers, and vendors, making sure the products we ship are of the highest quality. A couple years ago I came to a realization that working for a conglomerate is not as inspiring as I wanted my life work to be. Turns out I need to be passionate to do an excellent job, and I was unwilling to settle for mediocre. The quest for inspiration brought me to working with small, heart-centered businesses and non-profits. I'd rather truly impact one business owner than be a cog in a huge corporate machine

Tom FlanaganI apply my PhD in neuroscience and my MBA in technology management to my passion for collaborative learning – first as a business founder and now as a consultant. I help groups and emerging leaders create and run complex human systems. Working within the scholarly field of systems science, I publish case studies from work that I have done that illustrate how theory and technique combine the social dimensions of storytelling (e.g., narrative management), model building (e.g. design management), and cognitive neuroscience (e.g. information management) for framing collective understandings that build deep commitments to collaborative efforts. I have been a longstanding advocate of transformation design for sustainable futures, and I am passionate about creating a social culture that itself is hungry for and demanding of democratic design.

David GracerI've taught writing and critical-thinking-skills for roughly twenty years, and encourage students to ask more questions and better questions. I advocate for public-speaking skills, leadership skills, and social justice. I've also been a leader in the international entomophagy movement, which urges the public to consider the uses of insects as a food-source, or as an ingredient in animal feed. Given what most scientists are saying about humanity's future, insects represent one of the best options for continued civilization.

Stephen LudwigI always wanted my own company; be my own boss. The industry and type of work was secondary. Thirty years ago I consulted on energy conservation measures in public housing with the MA Energy Department. That stint led to meeting a business partner I would work with for the next twenty five years. Our business changed direction several times, sometimes out of necessity, and other times a reaction to opportunity. Our end product was Talent Management software for the hospital industry. The company was called HealthCareSource. In 2008 we sold to a private equity firm, and I remained on the board for the next five years. Today I live in Newport with my wife and two children.

Tim MonroeI have nearly 25 years experience working in the non-profit sector. I have raised seven-figure gifts for three different institutions and have led sales, marketing, and fundraising efforts for two public media organizations. As the Head of an independent school with 40 employees and a budget of more than $4,000,000, I gained valuable experience both managing staff and overseeing an organization's overall fiscal health. Through all of this I have maintained my passion for education and my belief in the vital role that public interest journalism plays in maintaining a robust democracy.
