Sedgwick Cross Country runners competed in grade level races at the McGee Middle School Invitational on Saturday, October 15th. It was a beautiful day for running that gave each runner an opportunity to race their very best!

6th Grade Girls Race Serena R and Emily F ran in the first race of the day when there was still a chill in the air and frost on the ground. They each raced through the course to finish with impressive times! 6th Grade Boys Race Ryan S, Greg H, and Connor D ran in a competitive pool of runners. They each made it through the course with amazing speed! 7th Grade Girls Race Isabella P made racing through the 2.2 mile course look easy. She sailed over the hills and through the trails pulling towards the front of the race, picking off runners as she went to finish 8th overall! 7th Grade Boys Race Gavin S, Callum S, Matt S, Andrew M, Evan B raced the longest course of the season so far. Gavin S and Callum S dominated the front runner positions the entire race to finish first and second, respectively. Their tough race earned them the second and third fastest times of the day! Matt S. Andrew M and Evan B soon followed to finish with amazing times in a very competitive sea of runners! 8th Grade Boys Tyler R raced over the course to establish a significant lead over the rest of the pack to finish first place with the fastest race time of the day! Jude S and Ben R raced through the 2.2 mile course with incredible strength and speed to finish with one of their best times yet!

The Sedgwick coaches are incredibly proud of all the runners. It is wonderful to see their dedication to the sport of running, leading to exciting results! If you see any of the above students, please congratulate them on an amazing job!

DAY OF THE GIRLS SUMMIT

12 BRAVE members (students, teachers, and an Asst. Principal from NY)

heard from many girls about their stories and struggles. There were

performances from 2 girls that were intermingled with the speeches as

well. They shared about being treated fairly and with respect while

allowing them to be themselves...to be GIRLS! There were ambassadors

from Peru, Canada and Turkey among other important people who also

spoke. It was very powerful to see and hear! If you want more info,

please see or email us!

We are so grateful to have had this opportunity, thanks to everyone who

Sedgwick #PeaceDayChallenge

Quest students took one of the Peace Day Challenge ideas for action: “Create or contribute to a piece of public art, to raise awareness in your school and community about the Interna-tional Day of Peace.” We decided to make origami peace cranes with a message attached for teachers. This blossomed into a spot at the Library’s New Makerspace, where students can learn to make cranes. We also designed the display case in the hallway and have a side group collecting, analyzing and sharing songs about peace.

A legacy was left to Sedgwick from last year’s 8th grade Quest class. After their projects were done, they launched a website inspired by our goal to Question the world around us. https://sites.google.com/a/whps.org/outcasts-united-an-american-town-a-refugee-team-and-one-woman-s-quest-to-make-a-difference/

We studied the international refugee crisis by reading West Hartford’s One Town, One Book suggestion Outcasts United by Warren St. John. This story was about a refugee soccer team that changed the town of Clarkston, GA. This led to an opportunity to Skype with the National Institute of Peace, Education Director, Ann Louise Colgan. Little did we know that this would be the beginning of an ongoing relationship with the Institute.

Ann Louise contacted us this year to see if we might join the #peacedaychallenge. http://www.peacedaychallenge.org/
