FOR CONSTRUCTION SECTION 15460 SWIMMING POOL EQUIPMENT PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 DESCRIPTION OF WORK A. PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM

A. General

1. The water treatment system shall be supplied and installed in accordance to the requirements of the relevant authorities and shall comply strictly with the latest DM Code of Practice on Environmental Health.

2. All equipment, apparatus and component supplied shall be of types and makes acceptable to the relevant authorities.

B.System1. Calcium Hypochlorite compound shall be used as disinfecting agent in the water treatment system.

2. The filtered water shall be sterilised by injecting Calcium Hypochlorite solution into the delivery main. A chlorine residual of not less than 0.4 milligram per litre and not more than 1.5 milligram per litre shall be maintained at the outlet.

3. Free available residue shall not be less than 5 ppm in the pool water.

4. The pH value of water in the pool should exceed 7.2 but not greater than 8.4.

C.Supply of Chemicals1.The Contractor shall include the supply of the initial start up and twelve months supply of all chemical used.

2.02ANCILLARY EQUIPMENTA.All equipment, apparatus and components supplied shall be of types and makes acceptable to the relevant authorities and/or the Engineer.

1.The ancillary equipment supplied shall consist of the following:

i) Pool cleaning set

ii) Water testing (chlorine residual, pH value, acid demand and total alkalinity) set

iii) Set rate-of-flow measuring indicator

iv) Overflow collector channel gratings

v) Surflo" channel cover

vi) Pool Deck equipment as specified

vii) Filter medium applicator

viii) Pool drain gratings of anti-vortex type.

B.Pool Cleaning Equipment1. One (1) set portable pool cleaning equipment comprising of the following items complete with flexible suction hose and coupling fittings shall be provided.

2. One suction sweeper complete with electric motor driven pump mounted on an approved trolley and 10 m length retractable power cord.

3. Plastic vacuum cleaning head complete with 6m telescopic anodised aluminium handle shall be provided.

4. 450 mm wide curved floor and wall brush shall be provided.A moulded plastic leaf skimmer shall be provided.

C.Water Testing Kit1. A set of water testing kit shall be provided to determine the residual chlorine and pH value of the water. The equipment shall comprise of a chlorimetric comparator with the necessary glass test tubes, colour discs and the necessary indicator solution. The equipment shall be contained in a robust portable case. The testing chemicals shall be in sufficient quantity for at least 50 tests each.

D.Rate-of-flow Indicator1. Rate of flow indicator to cover a range of measurement at least 1-1/2 times the design value shall be supplied and installed at all the recirculation system to the satisfaction of the Architect/Consulting Engineer.

E.Overflow Collect Channel Gratings1. The overflow scum channel gratings shall be supplied and installed by the Sub-Contractor. The grating material used shall be of shock-resistant plastic. Colour and pattern of the gratings shall be subjected to the approval of the Engineer.

2. 10m length of spare gratings shall be provided.

F.Pool Deck Equipment1. 12V pool lights complete with transformers shall be supplied and installed to the satisfaction of the Engineer. Layout of the pool lights shall be proposed by the sub-contractor.

2.03WATER FILTRATION SYSTEMA.The water filtration system shall be supplied and installed in accordance to the latest edition of the DM Code of Practice on Environmental Health as well as complying with the requirements of other relevant authorities.

B.System

1. The swimming pool(s) shall be of the level deck design. The circulation system shall be of the 'Surflo' system, whereby the draw-off of the pool water is by overflow collector channels into the balancing tank, while the delivery of water into the pool is through the central supply pipe concealed within the "Surflo" channels and the nozzle inlet fittings located along the bottom of the pool(s).

2. The water shall be filtered before being returned to the pool. The filtration plant shall basically comprise pressure Hirated sand filters, circulating water pumps, water distribution pipework and fittings. The filters shall have sampling taps at the inlet and outlet pipes of the filter and connection for backwashing to allow filter backwash to be discharged into the sewerage system.C.Piping

1. All piping as shown in the drawings and required for the proper operation of the swimming pool shall be supplied, installed and cast into the reinforced concrete where required by the contractor.

2. Samples of pipe clips, hangers and supports shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval before manufacturing and installation.

3. Pipes used shall be of approved UPVC Class AW (JIS6741) or equivalent complying to BS 3505:1986.

4. Pool inlet fittings shall comprise of purpose made cast iron puddle flanged pipes and adjustable rectangular or circular slotted zinc-free bronze gratings or plastic of adequate dimensions to ensure even distribution of filtered water.

5. The gratings must be suitable for swimming pool purposes and colours and type is subjected for approval of the Engineer.

6. Pipes used for delivering chemicals to the system shall be of approved unplasticised PVC to B.S. 3505 or equivalent.

7. All pipe fittings and valves used shall be suitable for a working pressure of not less than 10 bar.8. All water valves shall be constructed in high grade homogeneous cast iron complying with B.S. 1218 specification, accurately machined throughout with valve faces of high grade waterworks standards. All valves shall be flanged in accordance with B.S. 2035.

9. Unless otherwise specified all change over valves in the filtration plant room shall be approved butterfly type.

10. Valves smaller than 75mm diameter shall be of bronze

D.Water Circulating Pumpsets

Refer to Section 15450.

E.Strainers

1. Strainers of approved type shall be supplied at the suction end of the water circulation pumps.

2. The strainer cover shall be of quick release spring loaded swivelling cage type self-sealing type cover joint-ring. Strainer cages shall be constructed of cast iron with zinc free bronze of gunmetal rim. Pressure balance valves shall also be provided between the cage compartments to assist valve changeover operation.

F.Hi Rate Sand Filter

Refer to Section 15450.PART 3 -EXECUTION

3.01TESTING AND COMMISSIONING

A.Pipework

1. All water pipework shall be hydrostatically tested to 1 times working pressure and the test pressure shall be maintained for at least 1 hour.

2. Special care shall be taken during pressure test to protect controls, safety valves, etc which may have operated pressure slightly below the test pressure.

3. All water pipe work, except air, shall be flushed with clean water before final topping up or placing into use.

B.Pool Water1. The flow rate of the pool water is to be measured just before the time when the filter medium is to be changed. 2. The contractor should demonstrate that at the correct flow rate, the design water level in the balancing tank can be maintained.

3. The cleanness of the pool water should be such that if a paper pin is placed at the bottom of the deep end of the pool, it should be clearly visible by naked eye of a person standing 1m from the pool side. The colour of the water as determined by the Hazen Unit shall not exceed 5.

4. The size of the chemical feed pump should be proved being adequate to handle chemicals needed by the pool water when the pool is fully loaded with swimmers (one swimmer per every 2.3 sq m of pool surface).

5. The chemical feed pump shall be fully automatic type with manual override control.

6. The contractor should ensure that no algae formation is to be found in the pool and inside the vessels of the filtration plant throughout the maintenance period.

C. Electrical

1. All thermal overloads on starter shall be checked and the settings recorded.

2. All circuit breaker overload settings shall be checked and recorded.

D.Bacteriological1. The bacteriological quality of the water in the pool shall be as follows;

a. No sample of the water in the pool shall contain any E. coli organisms in 100 millilitres of the sample.

b. No sample of the water shall contain more than 10 coliform organisms in 100 millilitres of the samples.

c. Not more than one out of five samples of the water shall contain any coliform organisms in 100 millilitres of the sample.

d. A sample of the water shall not contain more than 200 bacteria per millilitre as determined by the twenty-four hour plate count at 37degrees Celsius or by the membrane filter method.

E.Chemical1. A chlorine residual of not less than 0.4 milligram per litre and not more than 1.5milligrams per litre shall be maintained at the outlet.

2. The pool water shall have a pH value of between 7.2 to 8.4

3. All chemicals used shall comply with Environmental health requirement

F.Testing of Water1. Samples of the water in the pool shall be submitted to a Government Laboratory for chemical and bacteriological analyses at least once a month or at such other intervals as may be stipulated by the Authority.2. All records of tests taken twice daily on pH value of the water in the pool and the residual chlorine therein shall be made available for inspection by Public Health Inspectorate staff.

G.Frequency of visits and supply of Chemicals1. The subcontractor shall visit the site 3 times per week to clean and vacuum the pool and to supply chemicals and adjust the water quality required during the 1 year defects liability period.

H.Warning Systems1. The sub-contractor shall provide an automatic warning system to give warning of overflow and low water level in the balancing tank. The system shall include float switches, PVC electric wiring, two red indication lights and buzzer to show overflow or low water level and identification lights in relation to the tank. Float switches are to be rubber-enclosed mercury-tube type. The lights and buzzers are to be mounted on a mild steel panel of 20 SWG thickness lockable and painted. The mild steel shall be thoroughly cleaned by short blasting to remove all foreign matter, rust and mill scale, painted 2 coats of zinc chromate primer and 2 coats of Dulux mat finishing paint to tint. The panel is to be fixed in the 1st storey lift lobby next to the main fire panel.
